The aim of the present work is to compute feed-paths and hot-spots by combining level-set-method based sharp interface and feed-path model. The model is based on the solution of energy and level-set equations in solid and liquid, with Stefan condition on the interface. The energy and level-set equation are discretized using finite-volume and finite-difference method, respectively. Feed-path is computed by tracking mass-less particles along the liquid-solid interface during solidification using combined Eulerian-Lagrangian framework. The proposed model is benchmarked on six test cases, where temperature contours and solidification time are compared with a finite-element-method based commercial software. The capability to predict the temporal evolution of interface and to identify multiple hot-spots is validated with an industrial aluminum-alloy lug casting. The numerical as well as experimental validations demonstrate the effectiveness of level-set-method for feed-path calculation.  相似文献

In developing a one-dimensional analysis and design procedure for reinforced concrete structures, research is generally based on yield phenomena and the plastic flow of steel in tension and concrete in compression. The ability of concrete to resist tension is considered in the form of tension stiffening or is completely disregarded. This procedure does not account for the influence of structural size in changing the failure mode and the stress distribution across the uncracked or cracked ligament. The key factor affecting this stress distribution is found to be the strain-softening modulus. This paper presents an improved model that is based on the fundamental equilibrium equation for the progressive failure of plain concrete beams. The concrete stress-strain relationship in tension is derived by calculating the peak tensile stress and softening modulus for different depths of beams on the basis of the fracture parameters obtained with the size effect law. Thus, the proposed model uses the peak tensile stress and the softening modulus, which vary depending on the size of the beam. To study the effect of the strength of high-performance concrete (HPC) on the concrete tensile stress-strain relationship, the experimental load-deflection plots of different-sized beams are compared with those obtained by using the proposed analytical model for eight different mixes made with locally available fly ash and slag. The model is also extended for lightly reinforced concrete beams, and the results are compared with those in the literature and are found to be in good agreement.  相似文献

Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) is a profibrotic cytokine which has been implicated in the renal fibrosis which follows unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) in the rat. TGF-beta receptor type I (TGF-RI) and TGF-beta receptor type II (TGF-RII) are part of the complex which mediates the response to TGF-beta. We sought to determine if TGF-RI and TGF-RII are found in the kidney, and if their expression is changed as a result of UUO. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to determine expression of mRNA for TGF-RI and TGF-RII in the kidney. Immunoperoxidase was used to localize and quantify the expression of these receptors at 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after UUO, and in sham-operated animals. Expression of mRNA for TGF-RI and TGF-RII was demonstrated in sham operated, obstructed and contralateral unobstructed kidneys using PCR. Using immunoperoxidase, a uniform distribution of TGF-RI and TGF-RII was found in cortical tubules of sham operated kidneys, whereas medullary tubules showed a patchy TGF-RI distribution and no TGF-RII staining. After UUO, an increased tubular expression of TGF-RI and TGF-RII was noted in both obstructed and contralateral kidneys compared to sham operated kidneys. No staining for either TGF-RI or TGF-RII was noted in glomeruli, vasculature or interstitial cells. TGF-beta receptors I and II were found exclusively in renal tubules and were shown to increase in both the obstructed and contralateral kidneys relative to sham operated animals. Upregulation of TGF-beta receptors in both kidneys suggests that TGF-beta may contribute to the fibrotic response in the obstructed kidney and the hypertrophic response of the contralateral kidney.  相似文献

Use of polyester‐type polyurethane foam (PUF) is an effective adsorbent for the removal of hazardous dye: crystal violet (CV) from an aqueous solution. In this adsorption study, the formation of hydrophobic ion pair (opposite charge attraction) between the charged species, i.e., cationic (basic) dye CV and anionic surfactant sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) sorbed onto PUF. Chemical calculations were performed using quantum simulation to understand ion‐pair formation for CV–SDS at the semiempirical PM6 level. Adsorption studies were performed using 200 mg cylindrical PUF with an overhead stirrer in solutions containing varying compositions of the dye–surfactant mixture. The equilibrium thermodynamics and kinetics of the adsorption process were studies by measuring CV dye removal as a function of time and temperature. Results show that the formation of the dye–surfactant ion pair is necessary for effective adsorption onto PUF. Various adsorption isotherms, viz., Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, Dubinin–Radushkevich (DRK), Harkin‐Jura, and several kinetic models, viz., pseudo‐first order, pseudo‐second order, Elovich, and Intraparticle diffusion were used to fit the spectrophotometric result. The equilibrium adsorption data fit to the Langmuir isotherm gives the maximum adsorption of PUF as 33.39 mg g?1 from 200 mL 5.0 × 10?5 mol L?1 CV solution at 298.15 K. The kinetics study showed that the overall adsorption process follows pseudo‐second‐order kinetics. The Morris–Weber model suggests that an intraparticle diffusion process is active in controlling the adsorption rate. The Freundlich, Temkin, DRK adsorption isotherms showed that solute dye transfers from solution to the PUF adsorbent surface through physical adsorption. The Langmuir and Harkin‐Jura adsorption isotherms suggest that the adsorbent surface is homogeneous in nature. The thermodynamic data showed that the adsorption process is spontaneous and endothermic with a positive enthalpy change and a negative change in Gibb's energy.  相似文献

In the current scenario, the demand for renewable resources is increasing day by day due to numerous factors. In view of this, current work represents the preparation of wood protective polyurethane (PU) coatings from mahua oil. Mahua oil was used as a starting material for the synthesis of fatty amide by base catalyzed aminolysis reaction. The synthesized fatty amide was converted into the polyetheramide polyols by a condensation reaction with bisphenol C. The structure of the synthesized products was confirmed by the attenuated total reflection‐Fourier transform infrared and 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. The synthesized polyetheramide polyols were used as precursors for the preparation of PUs and the prepared PUs were applied on the wood surface as a protective coating. The coating performance of the PUs was evaluated by the measurement of mechanical, thermal, and microbial properties as well as water, solvent, and chemical resistance. The coating performance revealed that mahua oil can be used as a renewable resource for the preparation of wood protective PUs. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. ABSTRACT

Superalloys with burr-free parts are most preferably used in biomedical, aerospace, marine and automotive applications. In order to reduce the global pollution content, industries strive to execute stringent green manufacturing technologies. There is a need to investigate the different available tools in high-speed micro-milling process to achieve desired burr free with good surface finish on super alloys without using traditional coolants. In machining of titanium and its alloys, because of low thermal conductivity and reactivity with tool materials instigate the burr formation on work material and lowers the tool performance. The main objective of this article is to investigate the top burr formation in high-speed micro-end milling of alpha + beta-titanium alloy-grade 23 ELI (Ti-6Al-4V) under dry cutting conditions using Uncoated and physical vapor deposition coated AlTiN, TiAlN tungsten carbide end mills. Machining performance of the three cutting tools was compared. From the comparison of cutting tools for machining titanium alloy-grade 23, it is found that coated TiAlN tools produce less burr formation than coated AlTiN and uncoated tungsten carbide tools.  相似文献

Empirical studies of determinants of new firm formation to date have tended to yield diverse and even contradictory results. Three primary reasons for this have been advanced: (1) the paucity of suitable micro-level data (2) the failure to control for amorphous time- and place-specific influences that defy specification, and (3) the use of estimation techniques that do not handle adequately the effects of heteroscedasticity. This paper addresses all of these shortcomings by employing a unique data set composed of annual data on localized firm entry, exit and a variety of predictor variables that has been analyzed to yield heteroscedasticity-corrected estimates while controlling for unspecified place- and period-specific influences. We test a variety of models seeking to explain patterns of new firm formation in terms of macroeconomic, demographic, and labor market processes, patterns of industrial restructuring, availability of local financial capital, and local public sector spending. Our results suggest that regional patterns of new firm formation can be explained by variation in unemployment change rates, mean establishment size, prior firm entry and exit dynamics, and the availability of local financial capital. The failure mechanisms of air-plasma-sprayed ZrO2 thermal barrier coatings with various microstructures were studied by microscopic techniques after thermal cycling. The elastic modulus ( E ) and hardness ( H ) of the coatings were measured as functions of the number of thermal cycles. Initially, both E and H increased by ∼60% with thermal cycling because of sintering effects. However, after ∼80 cycles (0.5 h at 980°C), the accumulated damage in the coatings led to a significant decrease of ∼20% of the maximum value in both E and H . These results were correlated with stresses measured by a spectroscopic technique to understand specific damage mechanisms. Stress measurement and analysis revealed that the stress distribution in the scale was a complex function of local interface geometry and damage in the top coat. Localized variations in geometry could lead to variations in measured hydrostatic stresses from −0.25 to −2.0 GPa in the oxide scale. Protrusions of the top ZrO2 coat into the bond coat were localized areas of high stress concentration and acted as damage-nucleation sites during thermal and mechanical cycling. The net compressive hydrostatic stress in the oxide scale increased significantly as the scale spalled during thermal cycling.  相似文献

Mixed micellization study of cationic surfactants viz. alkyltrimethylammonium bromides (CnTAB) and alkyltriphenylphosphonium bromides (CnTPPB) with similar hydrophobic groups (C12-, C14-, and C16-) was performed using tensiometry and UV–visible light spectrophotometry techniques. Critical micelle concentration (CMC) values of the single and binary surfactant mixtures were obtained from a plot of surface tension versus the logarithm of surfactant concentration (C s). The degree of synergy and various mixed micelle parameters like interaction parameter (β), activity coefficients (f m ) and interfacial parameters like surface pressure (π CMC), packing parameter (P), surface excess concentration (Г max), surface tension at the CMC (γ CMC), and minimum area per molecule (A min) were evaluated using the regular solution theory (RST). Thermodynamic parameters were calculated using several proposed models which suggest the mixed micellar system to be more thermodynamically stable than their respective individual components. In addition, a dye solubilization study was performed using a spectrophotometric method to validate the CMC data obtained from tensiometric method. Conductometric measurements were also carried out for the mixture of C12TAB + C12TPPB only as it showed a more negative β, indicating a higher degree of synergism.  相似文献
