Partisanships in Washington have gone a long way in the last couple years. Indeed, the shutdown of the Federal Government and the eleventh-hour deal to raise the debt ceiling and avert a national default were the tip of the iceberg in American politics. There is little doubt that America is becoming an ungovernable place, as its politicians cannot find common ground on virtually anything. Instead, they don＇t miss a chance to put the country on the brink of another economic crisis, though not manufactured in offices on Wall Street but in the hallways of Congress. And that is not fair, let alone logical.

America has been historically known as the land of opportunity. This image has been built upon the notion of the American dreana. The dream is that everybody, despite place of origin, religious view, skin color or socio-economic status, can make it in America if he or she decides to work hard. By making it in America, it is implied to moving up the economic ladder and joining the American middle class. The idea of loosing the American dream is unthinkable for Republicans and Democrats alike. However, the dream has been eroded in the last couple of years more than politicians like to admit.
