The present study set out to assess the feasibility of long-term moderate dietary sodium restriction in patients with mild hypertension in general practice. After screening and a run-in phase of 6-8 weeks, a total of 77 previously undiagnosed mildly hypertensive patients were identified. Half of them were randomized to receive a few simple dietary instructions from their general practitioners in order to reduce salt usage; the others were randomized to receive no advice. The patients were followed up for 12 months with quarterly visits. A total of 56 patients (72.7%) completed the study, 26 on a low-sodium diet (LD) and 30 on their usual diet (UD). At each visit in the diet phase, patients provided 24h urine, which was analysed for volume and sodium concentration in order to assess their sodium intake. Blood pressure, heart the rate and body weight were recorded. The mean urinary sodium excretion for all diet phase visits overlapped in the two groups (177.0 +/- 32.9 vs. 169.3 +/- 49.4 mEq/24h respectively in the LD and UD groups). Nevertheless the mean systolic and diastolic blood pressures for all diet phase visits were significantly lower in the LD than in UD group (144.2 +/- 11.1/91.6 +/- 6.4 and 148.0 +/- 13.7/95.6 +/- 4.7 mmHg respectively, P less than 0.01). Our data suggest that it is not feasible at present to reduce sodium intake in mild hypertensives with simple and inexpensive dietary instructions, the only ones suitable for widespread application in general practice.  相似文献

The extraction of nitrogenous material from Brewers' spent grain (BSG) by solvents (water, sodium chloride solution, aqueous alcohol, acidic and alkaline solutions) commonly used to extract cereal proteins, resulted in the relatively low (0·2 to 8·5%) recovery of the total nitrogen. The recovery of nitrogenous material by the use of aqueous alkaline solutions was increased from 3–4% to 41% when the BSG was subjected to cellulase incubation prior to extraction. Approximately 75% of the nitrogen was solubilized with trifluoracetic acid. Detergent solutions (acid, neutral) solubilized more than 80% of the total nitrogen of the BSG. The low solubility of the nitrogenous constituents by conventional protein solvents could be the result of association between cellulosic material and protein.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to design a HVAC system which damper gap rates have been controlled by PID controller. One of the dampers was controlled by using the required temperature for the interested indoor volume while the other damper was controlled by using the required humidity for the same indoor volume. The realized system has a zone with variable flow-rate by considering the ambient temperature and humidity. In the authors’ previous theoretical work, PID parameters were theoretically obtained by using fuzzy sets for the same HVAC system. Optimization with Fuzzy Modeling Approach of PID parameters has been performed to maximize the performance of the system. The obtained PID parameters in the previous theoretical work were used in this study. Besides, the damper gap rates of a HVAC system with only one zone were predicted by using Artificial Neural Fuzzy Interface System (ANFIS) method. The input-output data sets of this system were first stored and then these data sets were used to obtain its intelligent model and control based on ANFIS. Efficiency of the developed ANFIS method was tested and a mean 99.98% recognition success was obtained. This paper shows that the values predicted with the ANFIS can be used to predict damper gap rate of HVAC system quite accurately. Therefore, faster and simpler solutions can be obtained based on ANFIS.  相似文献

Since little has been known about the properties of aromatic analogues of the antineoplastic agent methylglyoxal bis(guanylhydrazone) (MGBG), an investigation was performed on phenylglyoxal bis(guanylhydrazone) (PhGBG). PhGBG competitively inhibited yeast adenosylmethionine decarboxylase (AdoMetDC) with a Ki of 65 microM. As compared to MGBG (Ki 0.23 microM), PhGBG is a much weaker inhibitor, being even weaker than the unsubstituted congener glyoxal bis(guanylhydrazone) (GBG, Ki 18 microM). PhGBG inhibited porcine kidney diamine oxidase (DAO) non-competitively, being a more potent inhibitor (Ki 0.12 microM) than GBG (Ki 0.17 microM) or MGBG (Ki 0.33 microM). Thus, PhGBG has an unfavourably high ratio of Ki(AdoMetDC)/Ki(DAO) for potential use for selectively inhibiting polyamine biosynthesis. This does not exclude the possibility that PhGBG or other aromatic congeners might have therapeutic value since the corresponding ratio of the antileukaemic congeners GBG and MGBG is also high as compared to many aliphatic non-antileukaemic analogues. The pKa1 and pKa2 values of PhGBG dication were found to be 6.39 +/- 0.02 and 8.64 +/- 0.02 respectively, their difference being distinctly larger than in the case of GBG or its C-alkylated analogues. This may result from decreased stability of the dication form, caused by the resonance effect or possibly by the inductive effect of the phenyl group. The species distribution of PhGBG (proportion of free base 5.5%, predominant species the monocation) at 37 degrees C resembles that of GBG and MGBG but is clearly different from that of non-antileukaemic C-alkylated analogues. These similarities suggest that PhGBG and its derivatives may be worth antitumour screening. Depending on the conditions used in the crystallization, three different types of crystals of PhGBG sulphate were obtained. Crystallography indicated that, in two of the types, the crystal consisted exclusively of the anti-anti isomer, i.e. the same isomer as has been observed in the case of GBG and its C-alkylated congeners. One crystal type, however, consisted of a different geometrical isomer (anti-syn), suggesting that PhGBG may isomerize more easily than its aliphatic analogues. Previous concepts on the isomerism of GBG and C-alkylated bis(guanylhydrazones) thus cannot be generalized to aromatic congeners. A theory based on resonance, inductive and hyperconjugative effects and electron transfers is presented that is capable of explaining the formation of the two geometrical isomers of PhGBG that were experimentally observed. A similar theory, based on hyperconjugation of C-F bonds, is presented that is capable of explaining the previous finding of the formation of the anti-syn isomer of trifluoromethylglyoxal bis(guanylhydrazone) (CF3GBG). Like that of CF3GBG, the anti-syn isomer of the PhGBG dication is stabilized by an internal hydrogen bond. The lack of structural rigidity may affect the biological properties of PhGBG, e.g. its ability to inhibit AdoMetDC.  相似文献

Acid soluble proteins (bipyramidal crystalline, 76.9% protein, 15% carbohydrate) prepared by citric acid extraction and acid precipitated proteins (amorphous, 64.2% protein, 11.3% carbohydrate) prepared by alkali extraction from baby lima beans (Phaseolus lunatus) were found to behave in a similar manner under alkaline conditions (pH 8.9) of electrophoresis (absence of urea). Striking differences were observed in the behaviour of the two types of protein preparations when electrophoresis was performed under acidic conditions (pH 4.5; absence and presence of urea and a mixture of urea and 2-mercaptoethanol) and in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulphate.  相似文献

The chemical composition of the Kew cultivar of Indian pineapple (Ananas cosmosus L.) was studied after 65 days (pre-mature), 100 days (early mature), and 150 days (late-mature) from flowering. The fruit was analysed for sugars, amino acids and minerals. Total soluble carbohydrates increased from 6.02 to 9.24%, and protein content decreased from 0.69 to 0.21%, during the fruit-development process. The vitamin C content decreased from 20.4 to 11.1 mg 100 g?1 edible fruit during development. Fructose, glucose and sucrose together constituted approximately 5.0% (pre-mature), 2.4% (early mature), and 1.2% (late-mature) of fresh weight. The contents of iron, boron and zinc increased during development. The major minerals in the mature fruit were potassium (31.33 mg 100 g?1), phosphorus (3.13 mg 100 g?1), calcium (3.92 mg 100 g?1), sodium (2.63 mg 100 g?1), iron (3.22 mg 100 g?1), zinc (0.55 mg 100 g?l), and copper (0.06 mg 100 g?1) of fresh sample. The content of most amino acids decreased during development; only aspartic acid showed a considerable increase in the late-mature fruit.  相似文献
