The solubilities of C60 and C70 at 25°C in seven normal alcohols obey the relationship InY = a + bX + cX2, where Y is solubility and X is the Hildebrand solubility parameter of the solvent. To evaluate the environmental impact of uranium (U) contamination, it is important to investigate the effects of U at ecologically relevant conditions. Since U speciation, and hence its toxicity, strongly depends on environmental pH, the present study aimed to investigate dose-dependent effects of U at pH 7.5. Arabidopsis thaliana plants (Mouse-ear Cress) were exposed for three days to different U concentrations at pH 7.5. In the roots, the increased capacities of ascorbate peroxidase and glutathione reductase indicate an important role for the ascorbate-glutathione cycle during U-induced stress. However, a significant decrease in the ascorbate redox state was observed after exposure to 75 and 100 µM U, indicating that those roots are severely stressed. In accordance with the roots, the ascorbate-glutathione cycle plays an important role in the antioxidative defence systems in A. thaliana leaves exposed to U at pH 7.5 as the ascorbate and glutathione biosynthesis were upregulated. In addition, small inductions of enzymes of the antioxidative defence system were observed at lower U concentrations to counteract the U-induced stress. However, at higher U concentrations it seems that the antioxidative defence system of the leaves collapses as reductions in enzyme activities and gene expression levels were observed. 相似文献

Constructing Climate. From Classical Climatology to Modern Climate Research
Both climate researchers and historians of climate science have conceived climate as a stable and well defined category. This
article argues that such a conception is flawed. In the course of the 19th and 20th century the very concept of climate changed
considerably. Scientists came up with different definitions and concepts of climate, which implied different understandings,
interests, and research approaches. Understanding climate shifted from a timeless, spatial concept at the end of the 19th
century to a spaceless, temporal concept at the end of the 20th. Climatologists in the 19th and early 20th centuries considered
climate as a set of atmospheric characteristics associated with specific places or regions. In this context, while the weather
was subject to change, climate remained largely stable. Of particular interest was the impact of climate on human beings and
the environment. In modern climate research at the close of the 20th century, the concept of climate lost its temporal stability.
Instead, climate change has become a core feature of the understanding of climate and a focus of research interests. Climate
has also lost its immediate association with specific geographical places and become global. The interest is now focused on
the impact of human beings on climate. The paper attempts to investigate these conceptual shifts and their origins and impacts

This paper discusses a formal and rigorous approach to the analysis of operator interaction with machines. It addresses the acute problem of detecting design errors in human-machine interaction and focuses on verifying the correctness of the interaction in complex and automated control systems. The paper describes a systematic methodology for evaluating whether the interface provides the necessary information about the machine to enable the operator to perform a specified task successfully and unambiguously. It also addresses the adequacy of information provided to the user via training material (e.g., user manual) about the machine's behavior. The essentials of the methodology, which can be automated and applied to the verification of large systems, are illustrated by several examples and through a case study of pilot interaction with an autopilot aboard a modern commercial aircraft. The expected application of this methodology is an augmentation and enhancement, by formal verification, of human-automation interfaces. 相似文献
