We describe a hybrid evanescent-wave sensor component that we fabricated by using an integrated optical interferometer with a specially adapted photodetector array. The design of the interferometer is based on the use of tapered waveguides to obtain two intersecting collimated beams. Phase shifts can be measured with an angular precision of better than 10(-3) rad, which corresponds to a superstrate index change inferior of 10(-6) with our structure. The interest in the device as a chemical sensor is experimentally demonstrated. The same optical component could be used in a variety of other sensor applications, e.g., biological and immunological sensors.  相似文献

Nearly half of the fish consumed as food worldwide are raised on fish farms rather than caught in the wild, as shown by FAO statistics. The increasing aquaculture of predatory carnivorous fish demands new sources of feed constituents, particularly oils at the moment. Common terrestrial plant oils contain only traces of the long‐chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. In connection with fish feed, especially the lack of n‐3 “marine fatty acids” is obvious. Recommendations on the required amounts of the fatty acids DHA (22:6n‐3) and EPA (20:5n‐3) exist from 1994. When plant oil‐based diets are fed during the growing phase and replaced by a fish oil‐based diet during a period prior to slaughter, most of the beneficial lipid composition of fish in terms of human dietary recommendations is restored. Little attention has been focused on the fish welfare in connection to substitution of dietary oil sources, and studies are still scarce. New fish diets will rely heavily on the use of alternate ingredients such as plant oils also for carnivorous cold‐temperate water fish species. In the future, an addition of synthetic or GMO‐produced “marine” fatty acids is a possible scenario. The aim of this review is to highlight some plant oils used in fish feeds, with special emphasis on compounds other than fatty acids. We also include some results from an ongoing study, where the effect of dietary soy oil on gonad maturation in Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) is indicated.  相似文献

The effect of using polyphosphates during prebrining and the effect of prebrining time of cold water shrimp (Pandalus borealis) was studied with low field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR) transverse relaxation time measurements (benchtop and unilateral) and near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy with the aim of improving shrimp processing. Strong calibrations were obtained for moisture content and water-holding capacity (WHC) using the NIR technique. Multivariate analysis indicated significant correlations between benchtop NMR parameters and moisture content and WHC, as measured with physicochemical methods and NIR spectroscopy. Significant correlations were also observed between NMR parameters and muscle pH, protein content, and phosphate content. The study showed that LF-NMR contribute to improved understanding of the shrimp brining process and to improved process control on-line or at-line, especially in combination with NIR measurements. However, optimization of the unilateral device is necessary.  相似文献

A mass spectrometric method for the routine evaluation of the volatile substance contents of elastomers and plastics has been established. Samples 0·6 × 0·6 × 5mm3 are completely outgassed at various temperatures in the unmodified ion source of a high resolution (organic) mass spectrometer, the sensitivity of which is monitored by a constant influx of argon gas. Quantitative evaluation of evolved volatile substances is done by time integration of discrete or mass integrated mass spectra, followed by comparison with calibration runs on known quantities or (preferably) the evolved substances, or on a standard substance (n-hexatriacontan). The reproducibility of the method is about 10%, and the minimum measurable amounts are 10?9?10?10 g (1?0·1 ppm). Quantitative mass spectral data for the volatile substance contents of some common elastomers and plastics are presented. It is shown that usually these substances are not due to the polymer itself but to additives which differ for different makes of the same basic polymer.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to use low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and traditional chemical methods to investigate the physical and chemical differences in wild and farmed cod processed pre- and postrigor, and how these properties were affected by brine injection, brining, and freezing. In prerigor processed farmed or wild cod, brine injections followed by brining for 2 d, with brine concentrations up to 5.5% and 4%, respectively, were not sufficient to reach a muscle salt concentration of 2% as aimed for, while wild cod processed postrigor had sufficient salt uptake after the same processing. Low-field NMR gave valuable information about the differences in the muscle structure between wild and farmed cod as well as the state of the water in the muscle during brine injection, brining, and during rigor tension. Low-field NMR is, therefore, a valuable tool that can be used to optimize the salting and storing processes of lightly salted cod products from both wild and farmed cod. For farmed cod to be used in the production of lightly salted products further research is needed. Practical Application: Optimal processing of lightly salted cod products is important to the fish industry, due to an increasing market for this product in southern Europe. Farmed cod, which is seen as a potential steady raw material source for this production, differs considerably from its wild counterparts by having other chemical and physical muscle properties, such as lower water content and lower pH. With the processing procedures used today the farmed cod can, therefore, only be used in some of the products, where wild cod is currently used as raw material. It is, therefore, important that the processing of these products is optimized with regard to these differences in the raw material. This study gives a valuable contribution to further studies about optimal combinations of brine injections, brining, and freezing of pre- and postrigor processed farmed compared to wild cod.  相似文献

A novel drift‐diffusion model for intermediate band solar cells (IBSC) is presented. The model differs from previous drift‐diffusion models by allowing the carrier concentrations in all three bands to vary. It is developed for the idealized case where only radiative recombination occurs and where the IB has zero width. The model is used to compare the performance of IBSCs where the IB‐region is doped to get a partially filled IB (prefilled IBSC) to IBSCs where the IB‐region is not doped to partially fill the IB (photofilled IBSC). Numerical results show that a photofilled IBSC can achieve high efficiencies when operated under concentrated light. In fact, for some particular cases, a photofilled cell will perform better than a prefilled cell. The optimal degree of prefilling, i.e. the ratio of the concentration of doping atoms to the total number of IB‐states, is found for a particular example. It is also examined how the carrier concentrations in all three bands, the conduction, the intermediate and the valence bands, vary in prefilled and photofilled IBSCs. Quality changes in Atlantic mackerel fillets during superchilled, chilled and frozen storage focusing on lipid quality, colour and changes in low molecular weight metabolites relevant for quality and safety were studied. Low formation of oxidation products was observed in chilled (up to 7 days), superchilled (up to 14 days) and frozen storage (up to one year). Only slight formation of TBARS was measured in the samples which correlated with the increasing fillet yellowness. The profile of low molecular weight compounds, analysed by high-resolution NMR, showed clear grouping of the different samples according to both treatment and storage time. The increase in K-value was highest in the chilled samples, reaching a K-value of 93 ± 3% on day 5, exceeding the proposed limit of human consumption (80%) while superchilling reached a K-value of ca 90 % after 14 days. Frozen samples showed acceptable quality in the whole storage period.  相似文献

In this work, we investigated the laser ablation and deposition of Si and Ge at room temperature in vacuum by employing nanosecond lasers of 248 nm, 355 nm, 532 nm and 1064 nm. Time-integrated optical emission spectra were obtained for neutrals and ionized Ge and Si species in the plasma at laser fluences from 0.5 to 11 J/cm2. The deposited films were characterized by using Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Amorphous Si and Ge films, micron-sized crystalline droplets and nano-sized particles were deposited. The results suggested that ionized species in the plasma promote the process of subsurface implantation for both Si and Ge films while large droplets were produced from the superheated and melted layer of the target. The dependence of the properties of the materials on laser wavelength and fluence were discussed.  相似文献

Reactions involving minerals and glasses in water are slow and difficult to probe spectroscopically but are fundamental to the performance of oxide materials in green technologies such as automotive thermoelectric power generation, CO2 capture and storage and water-oxidation catalysis; these must be made from geochemically common elements and operate in hydrous environments. Polyoxometalate ions (POMs) have structures similar to condensed oxide phases and can be used as molecular models of the oxide/water interface. Oxygen atoms in POM exchange isotopes at different rates, but, at present, there is no basis for predicting how the coordination environment and metal substitution influences rates and mechanisms. Here we identify low-energy metastable configurations that form from the breaking of weak bonds between metals and underlying highly coordinated oxygen atoms, followed by facile hydroxide, hydronium or water addition. The mediation of oxygen exchange by these stuffed structures suggests a new view of the relationship between structure and reactivity at the oxide/solution interface.  相似文献

Abstract: Atlantic salmon were subjected to minimal preslaughter crowding stress (Control), short‐term crowding for 20 min (SS‐group), or long‐term crowding for 24 h (LS‐group). The fish were filleted prerigor, cut into 270 g pieces, and packaged in modified atmosphere (60% CO2 and 40% N2). Fillet quality analyses were determined during 22 d of storage at 0.3 °C. Bacterial growth and unpleasant sensory properties increased earlier in the LS‐group. The negative effects of long‐term preslaughter stress were more pronounced for raw than cooked samples, and more pronounced for odor than flavor. Sequence analyses of bacterial DNA at the end of storage revealed that 100% of the bacteria were comprised by Photobacterium phosphoreum of the SS‐ and LS‐group, whereas the Control group also contained 21% of Carnobacterium maltaromaticum (lactic acid bacteria, LAB). Counting of LAB, using Man‐Rogosa‐Sharke agar, similarly showed higher numbers of the Control group after 15 d of storage. A total bacterial count of log 6 CFU/g was observed after 15 d of storage of the LS‐group, which was 3 and 7 d earlier compared with the Control and SS‐group, respectively. Fillet color, texture, and liquid losses were not negatively affected by preslaughter crowding stress. From the sensory and bacterial analyses, it is concluded that long‐term crowding stress accelerates bacterial growth and development of unpleasant sensory properties, hence reduces the shelf life of prerigor modified atmosphere packaged (MAP) salmon. Practical Application: Stressful handling of Atlantic salmon before slaughter resulted in faster reduction of fresh taste and smell, faster bacterial growth, and hence shorter shelf life. The deteriorative effects were more pronounced of raw compared to cooked salmon. Therefore, salmon should be handled carefully in connection with slaughter to avoid impaired welfare and fillet quality, in particularly for fish that is consumed raw, such as sushi.  相似文献
