The adsorption of molecular and atomic hydrogen as well as other molecules in the atmosphere on vacancies in the (0 0 0 1) graphite surface are investigated using density functional theory. Atomic hydrogen adsorbs with energies ranging from 4.7 to 2.3 eV. The validity of the model is confirmed by the good agreement between calculated vibrational spectra and those of high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy. It is shown that molecular hydrogen dissociates with a barrier of 1.1 eV on this model system. Water and oxygen also dissociate with respective barriers of 1.6 and 0.2 eV. Carbon dioxide and nitrogen have no interaction with the defect whereas carbon monoxide is incorporated into the vacancy with an activation energy of 1.5 eV. A comparison is made with the reactivity of graphene edges, both zigzag and armchair.  相似文献

The aromatic compounds and biological activities of essential oils from six Tunisian aromatic plants including Artemisia herba-alba, Rosmarinus officinalis, Thymus capitatus, Mentha piperita, Ocimum basilicum and Artemisia absinthium were investigated. Hydro-distillation was used to extract essential oil from these plants. The identification of compounds from essential oils was performed using GC–MS analysis. Camphor (28.47%) was the major compound of A. absinthium essential oil. High contents of verbenone (20.99%) and camphor (19.72%) were found in R. officinalis. In the case of T. capitatus, carvacrol (81.09%), gamma terpinene (6.61%) and caryophyllene (4.87%) were identified as the major compounds. While eugenol (24.69%), linalool (18.00%) were characteristic compounds of O. basilicum essential oil, camphor (39.10%) and farnesol (14.25%) together with bornyl acetate (12.31%) were the main constituents of A. absinthium. These oils were also subjected to a screening for their antioxidant activity and essential oil from A. absinthium showed a greater antioxidant activity (IC50?=?0.0063 mg/mL) compared to the standard Vitamin E (IC50?=?0.019 mg/mL). The antibacterial activities of the oils against seven pathogenic strains, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus cereus, Salmonella, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis and Micrococcus luteus, were tested. The highest and broadest activity was shown by M. piperita; however, Ocimum basilicum was inactive against all strains. Essential oils were also evaluated for antidiabetic and anti-acetylcholinesterase activities. The IC50 values of A. herba-alba and O. basilicum against α-amylase were respectively 17.76 and 16.32 µg/mL suggesting a powerful anti-diabetic effect comparable to that of acarbose (IC50?=?14.88 µg/mL). R. officinalis, M. piperita and A. absinthium exhibited an interesting acetylcholinesterase inhibition with IC50 equal to 22, 24 and 58 µg/mL respectively.  相似文献

The bactericidal characteristics of nano-copper oxide or functionalized zeolite coated concrete pipes against Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans were studied by measuring the temporal variation of bacterial dry cell weight measurement, cellular Adenosine Triphosphate production, as well as oxygen uptake rate of the aforementioned bacterium. Uncorroded (UC), severely corroded (SC), and moderately corroded (MC) concrete pipes were electrochemically coated with a nano-copper oxide, while another uncorroded concrete pipe was used to apply functionalized zeolite coating (Z2). Specimens were characterized by field emission-scanning electron microscopy, and optical microscopy. Oxygen uptake rate of the bacterium was the highest in UC followed by the MC. Oxygen uptake rate and cellular Adenosine Triphosphate decreased progressively in Z2 and SC throughout the duration of the experiment due to decline in live bacterial cell. The maximum bacterial specific growth rate was 1.1 × 10−2 day−1 for both UC and MC, with a decay rates varying from 1.4 × 10−2 to 2.6 × 10−2 day−1. The minimum concentration limits for the inhibition of the bacterium in the nano-copper oxide coated concrete pipes ranged from 2.3 mg to 2.6 mg Cu per mg dry cell weight.  相似文献

The chemical vapor deposition of the pyrocarbon from a CH4+H2 mixture is investigated using nanofilamentous substrates. The process consists of growing carbon nanotubes via a catalytic process, which then are thickened by pyrolytic carbon deposition to reach diameters in the nanometer to micrometer range. A key characteristic of the experimental reactor used was the long length of its isothermal zone, preceded (and followed) by a low thermal gradient zone. This allowed us to investigate the role of the variation of the local gas phase composition, which depends on the post-cracking secondary reactions, and on the quantity and quality of the deposited carbon. The ‘time of flight’ of the reactive species was found to be a leading parameter in the pyrolytic carbon deposition process. Various nanometric and micrometric morphologies, several of which are new, were synthesised and found constituted with an association of different sub-morphologies. The various morphologies, that can be sorted following a factor of morphological complexity, were investigated by scanning electron microscopy.  相似文献

As the complexity and size of the projects undertaken by horizontal directional drilling (HDD) contractors rapidly increase, there is a growing need for the development of dedicated software designed to meet the industry’s special needs and requirements. This paper presents the results of a survey of the HDD industry’s software needs as well as a summary of commercially available software specifically designed for this industry. In addition, the development of two computerized applications tailored for the HDD industry are described. The first of these applications is an integrated data management system that combines asset management, cost control, estimating, and project tracking capabilities, enabling decision makers to closely monitor field performance in terms of expenditure and productivity. The second application is a simulation model developed for optimizing the utilization of drilling rigs and hydro-vacuum trucks on large-scale urban projects. Both applications are designed to improve the planning, estimating, and productivity of directional drilling projects, ultimately reducing the cost of expanding underground infrastructure networks.  相似文献
