The effect of crude oil n-paraffin molecular weight distribution on wax crystallization risk was studied. Sixteen highly paraffinic crude oils from Eastern Venezuela were characterized, in terms of hydrocarbon family distribution, by High Temperature Simulate Distillation (HTSD), Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), and wax content. n-Paraffin chain length was correlated with crude oil cloud point and pour point. It was demonstrated that high molecular weight linear paraffins are responsible for crude oil wax precipitation. A quantitative correlation between molecular weight distribution and crude oil flowing properties was also obtained. It was found that the wider the molecular weight distribution, the lower is the wax crystallization risk. Blends of different paraffinic crude oils were prepared and their flowing properties were evaluated in comparison with the original crudes. Cloud points below the mean value were obtained. In some cases, a synergistic effect was observed (cloud points below the minimum of the two crude oils). Blends of some of these crudes with condensates afforded improvements on crude oil flow and a reduction of wax crystallization tendency (cloud point). This phenomenon can be attributed to a combination of two factors: I. increases in C24-n-paraffins, and II. a wider molecular weight distribution.  相似文献

We have demonstrated the use of the single electron transistor (SET) as an amplifier for a photodetector operated at 20 mK. The unparalleled low input noise of the SET permits the detection of very small numbers of charge carriers generated in a bulk p-type Si substrate. We present data showing the response of the detector when it is illuminated by extremely low levels of red light (=650 nm). Although we are not able to prove that individual charge carriers are being detected in our system, the magnitude of the detector response and the level of noise in the system are in good agreement with single charge, and therefore single photon, detection. From the dark current noise of 0.06 electron/s, we estimate a noise-equivalent power NEP=2×10–21 W/Hz for infrared light with =30 µm, and from this calculate a detectivity D*=8×1017 cm-Hz/W.  相似文献

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) was impregnated in bacterial cellulose (BC) membranes. BC/PLA films were prepared by solvent casting and mechanical, optical and barrier properties, and biodegradation process were investigated. The transparency of processed films was higher than that of neat BC and increased with PLA content. Moreover, the incorporation of PLA to BC enhanced significantly the water vapor barrier properties of the BC membranes. The bionanocomposites contained a high percentage of cellulose due to the impregnation method that leads to the film with a BC content of 94%, which practically maintains the excellent mechanical properties of BC. However, when increasing the PLA content in the bionanocomposites the mechanical properties decreased slightly with respect to BC. Biodegradation under real soil conditions was determined indirectly through the study of the visual degradation and disintegration, demonstrating that the bionanocomposites were degraded faster than the neat PLA. The successful production of BC/PLA bionanocomposites suggested the possible application of them for active food packaging. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. BACKGROUND: Tuberculin reactivity varies on the basis of the PPD lot and the population studied. AIMS: To compare tuberculin reactivity in the elderly following successive applications of PPD from 2 different lots. POPULATION: Elderly nursing-home residents, from the province of Guadalajara, Spain. METHODS: The elderly were randomly selected and administered with a first Mantoux intradermoreaction of 2 UT of PPD-RT23 or 2 UT of PPD-CT68. The study was performed in a scaled basis, eliminating the reactors (transversal induration > or = 5 mm at 72 h). The non reactors were restudied with a second and third test in alternative arms at a 7-day interval with the same lot and initial dosis of PPD. At one year the scaled study was repeated with 2 UT of PPD-CT68. RESULTS: Eight hundred and thirty elderly persons (79 +/- 9 years) were studied, with 410 receiving PPD-RT23 and 420 receiving PPD-CT68. No differences were observed in the percentage of initial reactors (31% vs 29%; p = 0.26) or in the booster reactors (23% vs 20%; p = 0.16). The PPD-RT23 was found to trigger more intensive reactions than the PPD-CT68 leading to a greater frequency of indurations > 14 mm. After one year, the percentage of stable reactions was similar in both groups (50.5% vs 49.5%; NS). CONCLUSIONS: 1) In elderly nursing-home residents 2 UT of PPD-RT23 and 2 UT of PPD-CT68 showed similar results in regard to the number of reactors and the frequency of booster reactions. 2) The proportion of intense reactions was greater with 2 UT of PPD-RT23 than with 2 UT of PPD-CT68. 3) The stability of the reactions at one year was independent of the lot used in the first phase.  相似文献

The coupling of a photovoltaic generator and an electrolyser is one of the most promising options for obtaining hydrogen from a renewable energy source. Both are well known technologies, however, since the high variability of the solar radiation, an efficient coupling still presents some challenges. Direct or through a DC–DC converter couplings are the options in isolated applications. In this work, three models, respectively, for a photovoltaic (PV) generator, a controlled DC–DC converter and a complete proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser have been designed by using Matlab/Simulink. A PV-electrolyser specific algorithm to search for the optimum and safe working point for both elements is presented. Simulation results demonstrate that the use of a controlled DC–DC converter with the proposed algorithm shows better adaptability to the variable radiation conditions than the other coupling options. Therefore, it leads to a better compliance between the electrolyser and the sizing of the PV generator.  相似文献

Sandia National Laboratories has conducted a sequence of studies on the performance of lithium ion and other types of electrochemical cells using inductive models. The objectives of some of these investigations are: (1) to develop procedures to rapidly determine performance degradation rates while these cells undergo life tests; (2) to model cell voltage and capacity in order to simulate cell output under variable load and temperature conditions; (3) to model rechargeable battery degradation under conditions of cyclic charge/discharge, and many others. Among the uses for the models are: (1) to enable efficient predictions of battery life; (2) to characterize system behavior.

Inductive models seek to characterize system behavior using experimentally or analytically obtained data in an efficient and robust framework that does not require phenomenological development. There are certain advantages to this. Among these advantages is the ability to avoid making measurements of hard to determine physical parameters or having to understand cell processes sufficiently to write mathematical functions describing their behavior. We have used artificial neural networks (ANNs) for inductive modeling, along with ancillary mathematical tools to improve their accuracy.

This paper summarizes efforts to use inductive tools for cell and battery modeling. Examples of numerical results are presented.  相似文献

The antioxidant activities against fish oil oxidation of six commercially available flavonoids and of five flavonoids purified from two Chilean native plants were compared to those ofdl-α-tocopherol and of two synthetic antioxidants, butylated hydroxytoluene and butylated hydroxyanisole. Among the commercial flavonoids, catechin, morin and quercetin showed a higher activity when fish oil oxidation (either spontaneous or Fe2+-induced) was assessed from the formation of peroxides or thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances. Among the native flavonoids, the 5,3′,4′-trihydroxy-7-methoxy flavanone (designated as Pt-2) showed the highest antioxidant activity. Mixtures of quercetin or of Pt-2 withdl-α-tocopherol produced better inhibitory effects when compared to that of each substance assayed by itself. Also, when Pt-2 and quercetin were assayed in combination (0.3 g/kg oil and 0.7 g/kg oil, respectively), a synergistic antioxidant effect was observed. Results indicate that several flavonoids could be used as natural antioxidants as a means to replace those synthetic antioxidants, the use of which has been questioned.  相似文献

A 43-year-old white man with a history of cigarette smoking, hypertension, nephrolithiasis, and cervical degenerative arthritis was hospitalized for sudden-onset severe, substernal, and pleuritic chest pain with epigastric radiation. Despite evaluation, the cause remained unclear and the patient expired on hospital day 5. Autopsy revealed acute Stanford type A aortic dissection, hemopericardium, and hemothorax. Grossly, the aorta and its branches, including uninvolved medium-sized arteries, displayed extreme mural fragility. Microscopic examination showed a primary lymphoplasmacytic aortitis-periaortitis without giant cells. Rents within the tunica media, medial-adventitial inflammation, and elastic fiber disruption were limited to sites of gross aortic dissection. Muscular arteries showed patchy, chronic arteritis-periarteritis without giant cell infiltrate or aneurysm formation. This case documents an unusual association of primary lymphoplasmacytic aortitis and aortic dissection.  相似文献
