Poly(methyl methacrylate)–lead silicate composites were prepared with different amounts of crystalline or amorphous PbO–SiO2 binary composition (70 mole % PbO). The polymerization reaction was carried out in aqueous medium and in methanol–water mixture at 40°C using sodium bisulfite as initiator. The presence of lead silicate was found to increase the molecular weight of the poly(methyl methacrylate). The prepared composites were characterized by studying their shielding properties to γ radiation, mechanical hardness, dielectric constant, and thermal stability. It was found that lead silicate increases the absorbing power of the composites to γ radiation. This behavior was found to be dependent on the amount and the type of lead silicate (amorphous or crystalline). Gamma irradiation of the composites was found to cause chemical degradation of the poly(methyl methacrylate) leading to a decrease in mechanical hardness. Molecular weights of the poly(methyl methacrylate) for some of the composites were determined before and after irradiation viscosimetrically. Dielectric constants for some of the composites were determined at two different temperatures. The thermal stability of the composites was studied by means of an automatic thermogravimetric analyzer.  相似文献

Polypropylene/poly(methyl acrylate)‐grafted glass wool (PMA‐g‐GW) mixes were prepared. The polymerization process was carried out using potassium persulfate (PPS) and PPS/acetone sodium bisulfite (ASBS) as a redox‐pair initiation system at 60 and 70°C. The effect of using PPS or PPS/ASBS on the grafting percent and conversion percent reveals that the conversion percent values on using PPS as an initiator are higher than those of PPS/ASBS, while in the case of grafting, the inverse is true, that is, using PPS as an initiator gives grafting percent values lower than those that can be obtained using PPS/ASBS. The dielectric properties, thermal diffusivity, specific heat capacity, and thermal conductivity of PP loaded with modified glass wool as a function of different types and concentrations of initiators—used in the grafting polymerization process, namely, PPS and the redox initiating system—were also studied. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Gas liquid chromatographic analysis of the fatty acid methyl esters from eggs ofDermacentor andersoni Stiles (Ixodidae) revealed the presence of significant quantities (15% total fatty acids) of an unidentified component with a retention time between C18∶3−C22∶0 fatty acids. Smaller amounts of the unidentified component (ca. 5% total fatty acid) also were detected in host rabbit serum. Purified, the unidentified component's methyl ester collected from the tick eggs by preparative gas liquid chromatography was partially identified and characterized by chemical and spectroscopic analyses. The evidence suggests that the unidentified component is a methyl branched C15 tricarboxylic acid containing two vicinal carboxylic acid groups. Biosynthesis of the unidentified component by the tick is under investigation.  相似文献

The keys factor in making wind power one of the main power sources to meet the world’s growing energy demands is the reliability improvement of wind turbines (WTs). However, the eventuality of fault occurrence on WT com ponents cannot be avoided, especially for doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) based WTs, which are operating in severe environments. The maintenance need increases due to unexpected faults, which in turn leads to higher operating cost and poor reliability. Extensive investigation into DFIG internal fault detection techniques has been carried out in the last decade. This paper presents a detailed review of these techniques. It discusses the methods that can be used to detect internal electrical faults in a DFIG stator, rotor, or both. A novel sorting technique is presented which takes into consideration different parameters such as fault location, detection technique, and DFIG modelling. The main mathematical representation used to detect these faults is presented to allow an easier and faster under standing of each method. In addition, a comparison is carried out in every section to illustrate the main differences, advantages, and disadvantages of every method and/or model. Some real monitoring systems available in the market are presented. Finally, recommendations for the challenges, future work, and main gaps in the field of internal faults in a DFIG are presented. This review is organized in a tutorial manner, to be an effective guide for future research for enhancing the reliability of DFIG-based WTs.  相似文献

The CdO NPs was synthesized using the sol–gel method and the nanoparticles were characterized using an UV–Vis spectrophotometer, with shape and size were examined by SEM and XRD. The XRD analysis respects the Bragg’s law and confirmed the crystalline nature of CdO nanoparticles. From the XRD, the average size of CdO NPs was found to be around 41 nm. The photoluminescence spectra of the CdO NPs, as recorded at room temperature, were excited at 300 nm wavelength. The broad emission peaks were between 600 and 650 nm (orange emission). The optical limiting performance of the nanocomposite was described in the sol–gel state. Also, this study has observed and studied the diffraction rings generated in CdO NPs using the same CW laser. The number of rings increases almost exponentially with an increasing volume fraction of SiO2 in the nanocomposites. The refractive index change, Δn, and effective nonlinear refractive index, n 2, were found to be 10?4 and 10?8 cm2/W, respectively. The effective nonlinear refractive index, n 2, was determined based on the observed number of rings. The threshold values of the CdO, CdO–2SiO2 and CdO–5SiO2 nanocomposites are 7.1, 6.55 and 6.34 mW, respectively. This large nonlinearity is attributed to the thermal effect. The present studies suggest that the nanocomposite is a potential candidate for optical device applications such as the optical limiters. The thermal blooming technique was applied to evaluate the thermo-optic coefficient and thermal diffusivity of the CdO NPs. In the thermal blooming experimental setup a transistor–transistor logic modulated CW laser of wavelength 532 nm was used as the excitation source.  相似文献

Neural network wind retrieval from ERS-1 scatterometer data   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This paper presents a neural network methodology to retrieve wind vectors from ERS1 scatterometer data. First, a neural network (NN-INVERSE) computes the most probable wind vectors. Probabilities for the estimated direction are given. At least 75% of the most probable wind directions are consistent with ECMWF winds (at ±20°). Then the remaining ambiguities are solved by an adapted PRESCAT method, which uses the probabilities provided by NN-INVERSE. Several statistical tests are presented to evaluate the accuracy of the method. Its good performance is mainly due to the use of a spatial context and to the probabilistic approach for estimating the direction. Comparisons with other methods are also presented. The good performance of the neural method suggests that self-consistent wind retrieval is possible.  相似文献

The increased generation and up-regulated activity of bone resorbing cells (osteoclasts) play a part in the impairment of bone remodeling in many bone diseases. Numerous drugs (bisphosphonates, calcitonin, selective estrogen receptor modulators) have been proposed to inhibit this increased osteoclastic activity. In this report, we describe a pit resorption assay quantified by scanning electron microscopy coupled with image analysis. Total rabbit bone cells with large numbers of osteoclasts were cultured on dentin slices. The whole surface of the dentin slice was scanned and both the number of resorption pits and the total resorbed surface area were measured. Resorption pits appeared at 48 h and increased gradually up to 96 h. Despite the observation of a strong correlation between the total resorption area and the number of pits, we suggest that area measurement is the most relevant marker for osteoclastic activity. Osteotropic factors stimulating or inhibiting osteoclastic activity were used to test the variations in resorption activity as measured with our method. This reproducible and sensitive quantitative method is a valuable tool for screening for osteoclastic inhibitors and, more generally, for investigating bone modulators.  相似文献

Ethylamine adduct (30 Kg) was prepared in an industrial field by reaction of ethylamine with epoxydized soybean oil, oxiran content 6.5, and identified by infra‐red spectroscopy. The prepared adduct was emulsified using both polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate in the continuous medium and sorbitan monooleate in the dispersed medium, using high speed homogenizer, 4000 round per minute. Surface tension measurements were determined by platinum ring technique. The stability of the prepared emulsions was determined thermally. The emulsified adduct was scaled up to ¼ ton using 50 L capacity homogenizer. The emulsified adduct was added to emulsion paint formulations by three different concentrations. Physical, chemical, mechanical, corrosion resistance, water uptake, and weight loss tests had been done in absence and presence of the corrosion inhibitor, to evaluate the corrosion inhibition efficiency of the emulsified adduct. Chosen formulations were scaled up to 5 ton using a 100 L capacity mixer. Carbon steel plates of 15× 15 cm were coated and exposed to natural weather on the roof of National Research Center. The effect of the emulsified ethylamine adduct as corrosion inhibitor was followed up by taking pictures every month for more than 2 years. This paper reports the use of an immobilised ruthenium complex in a continuous flow process for the N-alkylation of morpholine with benzyl alcohol. The ruthenium-based catalyst was supported on a phosphine bound polymer. Screening experiments were first performed in a batch reactor, with a 16 vol% mixture of morpholine and benzyl alcohol (stoichiometric molar ratio of 1:1) in toluene as the solvent. Operating at 110 °C for 24 h, it was shown that high conversions (>99%) into the desired tertiary amine could be achieved. This reaction was then shown to be viable in a continuous flow reactor, where the catalytic polymer beads were retained in the bed. Operating at 150 °C and using p-xylene as a solvent, the conversion into the desired tertiary amine was shown to be as high as 98%. This approach is clearly very promising, as it provides a greener and more atom efficient route for the production of secondary and tertiary amines in the pharmaceutical industry.  相似文献
