Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are the underlying energy sources for animals and are catabolized through specific biochemical cascades involving numerous enzymes. The catabolites and metabolites in these metabolic pathways are crucial for many cellular functions; therefore, an imbalance and/or dysregulation of these pathways causes cellular dysfunction, resulting in various metabolic diseases. Bone, a highly mineralized organ that serves as a skeleton of the body, undergoes continuous active turnover, which is required for the maintenance of healthy bony components through the deposition and resorption of bone matrix and minerals. This highly coordinated event is regulated throughout life by bone cells such as osteoblasts, osteoclasts, and osteocytes, and requires synchronized activities from different metabolic pathways. Here, we aim to provide a comprehensive review of the cellular metabolism involved in bone development and homeostasis, as revealed by mouse genetic studies. 相似文献

Significant reduction of the contact resistance of In0.7Ga0.3As/Ni/W contacts (which were previously developed by sputtering in our laboratory) was achieved by depositing a W2N barrier layer between the Ni layer and W layer. The In0.7Ga0.3 As/Ni/W2N/W contact prepared by the radio-frequency sputtering technique showed the lowest contact resistance of 0.2 Ωmm after annealing
at 550°C for 10 s. This contact also provided a smooth surface, good reproducibility, and excellent thermal stability at 400°C.
The polycrystalline W2N layer was found to suppress the In diffusion to the contact surface, leading to improvement of the surface morphology and
an increase in the total area of the InxGa−As between metal and the GaAs substrate. These improvements are believed to reduce the contact resistance. 相似文献

This paper proposes a time-division multiple-access/time-division duplex (TDMA/TDD)-based symbol rate and modulation level-controlled adaptive modulation system for high-bit-rate data transmission. The proposed system controls both the symbol rate and modulation level for the next transmission time slot according to the estimated carrier power to noise spectral density ratio (C/N0) and delay spread for the time slot to achieve higher bit rate and higher transmission quality as well as higher delay-spread immunity. It is demonstrated by computer simulation and laboratory experiments that the proposed system can achieve a higher average bit rate with higher transmission quality in comparison with the fixed-rate quaternary phase-shift keying (QPSK) system and modulation level-controlled adaptive modulation system in both flat Rayleigh and frequency-selective fading environments. The simulated and experimental results also show that the proposed adaptive modulation techniques can be applied to 1-2-Mb/s indoor and outdoor microcellular systems with its delay spread of up to 250 ns and its terminal mobility of up to pedestrian speed without employing any special antifrequency-selective fading techniques, such as the adaptive equalizer and space diversity 相似文献

The molecular basis for a hereditary type I protein S (PS) deficiency was investigated. DNA sequence analysis in the proband showed a novel missense mutation substituting Cys (TGT) for Arg474 (CGT) that is a highly conserved amino acid residue among the related proteins. This missense mutation cosegregated with the type I PS deficiency in this family. Transient expression studies showed that the secretion of the recombinant Cys-mutant PS was markedly decreased compared with that of the recombinant wild-type PS, reproducing the observed phenotype of type I deficiency. Stable expression and pulse-chase experiments demonstrated an intracellular degradation and an impaired secretion of the recombinant Cys-mutant PS. Furthermore, the substitution of Arg474 by Ala or Glu, but not by Lys, markedly reduced the secretion of the recombinant PS mutants in transient expression studies, suggesting that a positively charged basic amino acid might be needed at residue 474 and might play a key role in the protein structure and conformation of the sex hormone binding globulin-homology domain of the PS molecule. We postulate that the loss of the highly conserved Arg474 might be responsible for the type I PS deficiency inherited in this family. 相似文献

The authors have developed a new type of motor consisting of a piezoelectric device and strain wave gearing, and is called a piezoelectric motor. This is a first step in realizing a low-speed, small-size and lightweight motor. The principle of the motor is that the traveling wave is produced by piezoelectric devices and displacement conversion devices without mechanical resonance, and the torque to rotate the motor is generated by a mechanism of strain wave gearing (circular spline and flexspline) without using friction. The motor is operated at variable frequency and its rotational position (angle) is controlled in open-loop because it is basically a synchronous motor. In this paper, the structure and principle of the proposed motor are explained and the driving method and the mechanical characteristics of an experimental motor also are described. The results are as follows:
- 1 The realizability of the proposed piezoelectric motor is verified experimentally. The experimental motor operates at 2920 steps per revolution, and its speed range is 0 to 960 pps [or 0 to 20 (rpms)].
- 2 The torque characteristics are clarified qualitatively.
- 3 The generated torque of the experimental motor is small (less than 0.03 Nm) and therefore the improvement of the torque is an important subject hereafter.
- 4 It is possible to construct the motor with nonmetallic material. This fact is considered to facilitate obtaining a means to lighten the weight of the motor in the future.

Recently, many extensive studies have been conducted on robot control via self-positioning estimation techniques. In the simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) method, which is one approach to self-positioning estimation, robots generally use both autonomous position information from internal sensors and observed information on external landmarks. SLAM can yield higher accuracy positioning estimations depending on the number of landmarks; however, this technique involves a degree of uncertainty and has a high computational cost, because it utilizes image processing to detect and recognize landmarks. To overcome this problem, we propose a state-of-the-art method called a generalized measuring-worm (GMW) algorithm for map creation and position estimation, which uses multiple cooperating robots that serve as moving landmarks for each other. This approach allows problems of uncertainty and computational cost to be overcome, because a robot must find only a simple two-dimensional marker rather than feature-point landmarks. In the GMW method, the robots are given a two-dimensional marker of known shape and size and use a front-positioned camera to determine the marker distance and direction. The robots use this information to estimate each other’s positions and to calibrate their movement. To evaluate the proposed method experimentally, we fabricated two real robots and observed their behavior in an indoor environment.
