Applicability of different temperature oscillation calorimetry algorithms, previously proposed in the literature, for the evaluation of the heat transfer coefficient during the course of the reaction, is analysed by referring to the experimental data from a methyl methacrylate polymerisation reactor.Results are coincident in the nominal case (no errors on data), while differences appear in the elaboration of real data. The effect of uncertainty in the experimental data has been simulated in terms of error on the amplitude and on the phase of reactor and jacket temperature profiles.This approach allows to indicate algorithms having the best robustness properties and to give an explanation of phase errors in terms of a lumped parameter which accounts for different phenomena, not included in the basic hypotheses of the method. Based on this observation, a procedure to eliminate this source of errors from experimental data is proposed for the more general algorithm presented to handle oscillating temperature profiles generated by different techniques. 相似文献

The activity, selectivity, and methanol tolerance of novel, carbon supported high-metal loading (40 wt.%) Pt/C and Pt3Me/C (Me = Ni, Co) catalysts for the O2 reduction reaction (ORR) were evaluated in model studies under defined mass transport and diffusion conditions, by rotating
(ring) disk and by differential electrochemical mass spectrometry. The catalysts were synthesized by the organometallic route,
via deposition of pre-formed Pt and Pt3Me pre-cursors followed by their decomposition into metal nanoparticles. Characteristic properties such as particle sizes,
particle composition and phase formation, and active surface area, were determined by transmission electron microscopy, energy
dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. For comparison, commercial Pt/C catalysts
(20 and 40 wt.%, E-Tek, Somerset, NJ, USA) were investigated as well, allowing to evaluate Pt loading effects and, by comparison
with the pre-cursor-based catalyst with their much smaller particle sizes (1.7 nm diameter), also particle size effects. Kinetic
parameters for the ORR were evaluated; the ORR activities of the bimetallic catalysts and of the synthesized Pt/C catalyst
were comparable and similar to that of the high-loading commercial Pt/C catalyst; at typical cathode operation potentials
H2O2 formation is negligible for the synthesized catalysts. Due to their lower methanol oxidation activity the bimetallic catalysts
show an improved methanol tolerance compared to the commercial Pt/C catalysts. The results indicate that the use of very small
particle sizes is a possible way to achieve reasonably good ORR activities at an improved methanol tolerance at DMFC cathode

Measuring the structural similarity between an XML document and a DTD has many relevant applications that range from document
classification and approximate structural queries on XML documents to selective dissemination of XML documents and document
protection. The problem is harder than measuring structural similarity among documents, because a DTD can be considered as
a generator of documents. Thus, the problem is to evaluate the similarity between a document and a set of documents. An effective
structural similarity measure should face different requirements that range from considering the presence and absence of required
elements, as well as the structure and level of the missing and extra elements to vocabulary discrepancies due to the use
of synonymous or syntactically similar tags. In the paper, starting from these requirements, we provide a definition of the
measure and present an algorithm for matching a document against a DTD to obtain their structural similarity. Finally, experimental

This paper presents an optofluidic device for cell discrimination with two independent interrogation regions. Pumping light is coupled to the device, and cell fluorescence is extracted from the two interrogation zones by using optical fibers embedded in the optofluidic chip. To test the reliability of this device, AU-565 cells—expressing EpCAM and HER2 receptors—and RAMOS cells were mixed in a controlled manner, confined inside a hydrodynamic focused flow in the microfluidic chip and detected individually so that they could be discriminated as positive (signal reception from fluorescently labeled antibodies from the AU-565 cells) or negative events (RAMOS cells). A correlation analysis of the two signals reduces the influence of noise on the overall data. 相似文献

An active database is a database in which some operations are automatically executed when specified events happen and particular conditions are met. Several systems supporting active rules in an object oriented data model have been proposed. However, several issues related to the integration of triggers with object oriented modeling concepts have not been satisfactorily addressed. We discuss issues related to trigger inheritance and refinement in the context of the Chimera active object oriented data model. This study investigates the influence of carboxylic monomers, such as itaconic acid (IA), on the colloidal properties of the
latexes made by semi-continuous emulsion copolymerization of styrene (STy) with n-butyl acrylate (BA). A number of copolymerization runs were carried out with different IA concentrations. The effect of functional
monomer on the overall conversion, the colloidal properties of the latexes, and the distribution of the carboxylic groups
(buried, particle surface and aqueous phase) were examined. The carboxylic groups present in the latexes were analyzed using
conductimetric and potentiometric titrations. The behavior of the IA on the wet scrub resistance of highly pigmented paints
for architectural coatings was examined and correlated with the distribution of the carboxylic groups. The results obtained
showed that the properties of highly pigmented paints are greatly dependent on the amount and distribution of the carboxylic
groups. The carboxylic acid distributed in the aqueous phase has a strong influence on the wet scrub resistance and on the

The advantages of backthinning monolithic active pixel sensors (MAPS) based on complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) direct electron detectors for electron microscopy have been discussed previously; they include better spatial resolution (modulation transfer function or MTF) and efficiency at all spatial frequencies (detective quantum efficiency or DQE). It was suggested that a ‘thin’ CMOS detector would have the most outstanding properties [1], [2] and [3] because of a reduction in the proportion of backscattered electrons. The instability of the hydroxylactone E ring represents a critical drawback of camptothecins, because the lactone ring is recognized to be essential for stabilization of topoisomerase I‐mediated DNA cleavage. In an attempt to investigate the effect of the thiopyridone pharmacophofore on the molecular and pharmacological features of the drug, we prepared a series of novel 16 a‐thiocamptothecin analogues. Due to the sulfur atom, a destabilization of the hydrogen bond between the hydroxy group in position 17 of the opened E ring and the carbonyl of the pyridone moiety is predicted, thus shifting the equilibrium toward the closed lactone form and increasing the lipophilic properties of the compounds. This feature was associated with superior antiproliferative potency, with reduced interaction with the human serum albumin and with substantial increase of the persistence of the topoisomerase I–DNA cleavable complex. These effects were prominent for thio‐SN38, the most active compound of the series. The favorable interactions at the molecular and cellular level of the reported thiocamptothecins confer promising features, and these compounds warrant preclinical development. 相似文献

Ownership, Investment Policies and Funding Choices of Italian Water Utilities: An Empirical Analysis 总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0
Nowadays, the efficient management of water has become the focus of vast debate, both in the academic literature and in the practical and regulatory field. Due to the growing importance and scarcity of water resources, it has become crucial to better understand how to improve the organizational efficiency of water utilities. By adopting an accounting perspective and using statistical methods, this paper analyzes whether and to what extent investment and financial strategies differ among clusters of water utilities with different ownership structures. The paper focuses on the Italian water industry, a context considered particularly appropriate due to the coexistence of utilities with different ownership structures. The main results of the paper show that ownership affects the level of investment as well as the financial structure and costs of water utilities. The evidence provided by this study should encourage national governments and regulatory authorities to select water utilities with the greatest investment potential measured in terms of financial efficiency and effectiveness. 相似文献
