Disparity field and depth map coding for multiview 3D image generation   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
In the present paper techniques are examined for the coding of the depth map and disparity fields for stereo or multiview image communication applications. It is assumed that both the left and right channels of the multiview image sequence are coded using block- or object-based methods. A dynamic programming algorithm is used to estimate a disparity field between each stereo image pair. Depth is then estimated and occlusions are optionally detected, based on the estimated disparity fields. Spatial interpolation techniques are examined based on the disparity/depth information and the detection of occluded regions using either stereoscopic or trinocular camera configurations. It is seen that the presence of a third camera at the transmitter site improves the estimation of disparities, the detection of occlusions and the accuracy of the resulting spatial interpolation at the receiver. Various disparity field and depth map coding techniques are then proposed and evaluated, with emphasis given to the quality of the resulting intermediate images at the receiver site. Block-based and wireframe modeling techniques are examined for the coding of isolated depth or disparity map information. Further, 2D and 3D motion compensation techniques are evaluated for the coding of sequences of depth or disparity maps. The motion fields needed may be available as a byproduct of block-based or object-based coding of the intensity images. Experimental results are given for the evaluation of the performance of the proposed coding and spatial interpolation methods.  相似文献

His paper presents a tool facilitating developers of user interfaces (UIs) to experience accessibility limitations that can be posed from various disabilities during the interaction of impaired users with their developments. In this respect, various aspects of visual, hearing, physical and cognitive impairments have been modelled through filters providing approximate, yet, realistic simulations over them. These filters have formed the basis for the developed tool, which can be used either on its own (as a standalone application), or be embedded in the NetBeans Integrated Development Environment. The tool, named DIAS, allows for impairment simulations to be performed over Java, mobile and web applications. Moreover, it integrates two of the most common assistive technologies (ATs), namely a screen reader and a magnifier. As a result, developers of UIs can not only experience how interaction would be affected from various impairments, but they can also understand how their developments would be perceived by impaired users through an AT. This work aims to provide an integrated, practical solution for impairment simulation, which could be easily adopted by developers, thus realistically increasing the possibilities for the future development of interactive applications that are more accessible to users with disabilities.  相似文献

This paper presents a mixed reality tool developed for the training of the visually impaired based on haptic and auditory feedback. The proposed approach focuses on the development of a highly interactive and extensible Haptic Mixed Reality training system that allows visually impaired to navigate into real size Virtual Reality environments. The system is based on the use of the CyberGrasp™ haptic device. An efficient collision detection algorithm based on superquadrics is also integrated into the system so as to allow real time collision detection in complex environments. A set of evaluation tests is designed in order to identify the importance of haptic, auditory and multimodal feedback and to compare the MR cane against the existing Virtual Reality cane simulation system.  相似文献

This paper presents a haptic virtual reality (VR) tool developed for the training of the visually impaired. The proposed approach focuses on the development of a highly interactive and extensible haptic VR training system (the ENORASI VR training system) that allows visually impaired, to study and interact with various virtual objects in specially designed virtual environments, while allowing designers to produce and customize these configurations. Based on the system prototype and the use of the CyberGrasp haptic device, a number of custom applications have been developed. An efficient collision detection algorithm is also introduced, by extending the proximity query package (PQP) algorithm to handle five points of contact (a case studied with the use of CyberGrasp). Two test categories were identified and corresponding tests were developed for each category. The training scenarios include: object recognition and manipulation and cane simulation, used for performing realistic navigation tasks. Twenty-six blind persons conducted the tests and the evaluation results have shown the degree of acceptance of the technology and the feasibility of the proposed approach.  相似文献

Moving between devices is omnipresent, but not for people with disabilities or those who require specific accessibility options. Setting up assistive technologies or finding settings to overcome a certain barrier can be a demanding task for people without technical skills. Context-sensitive adaptive user interfaces are advancing, although migrating access features from one device to another is very rarely addressed. In this paper, we describe the knowledge-based component of the Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure that infers how a device shall be best configured at the operating system layer, the application layer and the web layer to meet the requirements of a user including possible special needs or disabilities. In this regard, a mechanism to detect and resolve conflicting accessibility policies as well as recommending preference substitutes is a main requirement, as elaborated in this paper. As the proposed system emulates decision-making of accessibility experts, we validated the automatic deduced configurations against manual configurations of ten accessibility experts. The assessment result shows that the average matching score of the developed system is high. Thus, the proposed system can be considered capable of making precise decisions towards personalizing user interfaces based on user needs and preferences.  相似文献

Hierarchical partition priority wavelet image compression   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Image compression methods for progressive transmission using optimal hierarchical decomposition, partition priority coding (PPC), and multiple distribution entropy coding (MDEC) are presented. In the proposed coder, a hierarchical subband/wavelet decomposition transforms the original image. The analysis filter banks are selected to maximize the reproduction fidelity in each stage of progressive image transmission. An efficient triple-state differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) method is applied to the smoothed subband coefficients, and the corresponding prediction error is Lloyd-Max quantized. Such a quantizer is also designed to fit the characteristics of the detail transform coefficients in each subband, which are then coded using novel hierarchical PPC (HPPC) and predictive HPPC (PHPPC) algorithms. More specifically, given a suitable partitioning of their absolute range, the quantized detail coefficients are ordered based on both their decomposition level and partition and then are coded along with the corresponding address map. Space filling scanning further reduces the coding cost by providing a highly spatially correlated address map of the coefficients in each PPC partition. Finally, adaptive MDEC is applied to both the DPCM and HPPC/PHPPC outputs by considering a division of the source (quantized coefficients) into multiple subsources and adaptive arithmetic coding based on their corresponding histograms. Experimental results demonstrate the great performance of the proposed compression methods.  相似文献

BACKGROUND Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction is a challenge from both the diagnostic and therapeutic point of view. There is much ongoing debate about the accuracy and usefulness of various diagnostic tests, as there is about the effectiveness of proposed therapeutic alternatives. METHODS: A comprehensive review of the past 15 years' literature was undertaken, using the Medline database and cross-referencing of major articles on the subject. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Endoscopic and surgical treatments result in similar outcomes, with considerable failure rates. The latter reflect the difficulties in accurate diagnosis and a lack of sound objective criteria for selecting patients for intervention. In addition, in some patients sphincter of Oddi dysfunction may be only part of a generalized motility disorder of the gastrointestinal tract.  相似文献
