An effective compact analyzer of electron spin polarization

A compact electron polarimeter employing the classical Mott scheme has been developed and tested. The device has an efficiency of about 5.6×10⁻⁴, a maximum count rate of 5×10⁵ cps, dimensions 15 cm (diameter) × 25 cm (length), and a working voltage of 40 kV. The polarimeter can operate for a long time under arbitrary vacuum conditions without maintenance, exhibiting no changes in the main working characteristics, and obeys all requirements to the electron spin polarization studies on the modern level.     

Measurement and Identification of the Parameters of SPICE-Models of a Bipolar Transistor

A method of measuring and identifying the static parameters of a bipolar transistor is considered. The characteristic of the transistor, from which the parameters of the model are determined, is chosen depending on what group the calculated parameters belong to. The characteristics are measured in such a way that the equations of the model describing them can be reduced to the simplest form.     

Mechanism of the inhibiting effect of diphenylamine in the oxidation of hydraulic oils

The mechanism of the inhibiting effect of diphenylamine during the oxidation of two base stocks of hydraulic oils were studied at 120, 130, and 140°C. The key reactions in the mechanism of the action of the inhibitor were identified, and the values of the kinetic parameters and their activation energies were determined. The kinetic parameters were calculated, and the salient kinetic features of the inhibited oxidation of the two specimens were compared at 70°C, the temperature of accelerated testing of hydraulic oils. The results of this prediction were analyzed, and the reasons for differences in the oxidation stability of the samples examined were established.     

Facial myokymia and spastic paretic facial contracture as the result of anaplastic pontocerebellar glioma

The case of a 36-year-old man who sought treatment of right facial myokymia and spastic paretic facial contracture is reported. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a tumor located in the right cerebellar peduncle and the right dorsal pons bulging into the fourth ventricle. After microsurgical partial resection of the mass, which was verified histologically as an anaplastic glioma, facial myokymia initially ceased. The vermicular rippling movements were less intense upon recurrence and could be controlled by low-dose dexamethasone in the further course, when magnetic resonance imaging showed an interstitial pontine edema after percutaneous radiation therapy. It is assumed that facial myokymia and spastic paretic facial contracture were generated by ectopic activity due to alterations in the microenvironment at the intrapontine portion of the axons of the seventh nerve caused by the compressive effect of the tumor and later by edema.     

Biodegradation of chlorpyrifos by either single or combined cultures of some soilborne plant pathogenic fungi

Biodegradation of chlorpyrifos was studied in liquid culture media amended with either single or combined eight different plant pathogenic fungi isolated from the continuous cropping wheat fields. The average recovery of chlorpyrifos from the liquid media was found to be 86.1%. The detection limit of chlorpyrifos by the analytical method used was 19 ppb. Data showed that the growth of mixed fungi at concentrations up to 200 ppm of chlorpyrifos was higher than in the control treatment. Chlorpyrifos concentrations declined in the medium of combined fungi more than it did in the medium of any single fungus with increase in the incubation period. The amount of chlorpyrifos recovered was 79.8 ppm (39.9%) in the combined fungal cultures after 21 days. However, those recovered from the media of Fusarium graminearum, F. oxysporum, Rhizoctonia solani, Cladosporium cladosporiodes, Cephalosporium sp., Trichoderma viridi, Alternaria alternata, and Cladorrhinum brunnescens, ranged from 48.0 to 74.8%. The half-life value (T1/2) for chlorpyrifos was 15.8 day in the medium amended with mixed fungi. However, for the single cultures it ranged from 19.3 to 33.0 day.     

The properties of a spinel copper cobaltite prepared at low temperatures and normal pressure

The properties of a spinel copper cobaltite obtained by thermal decomposition of mixed nitrates of both metals at 350°C and normal pressure are described. It has been shown that the maximum copper content (x) in the spinel Cu_xCo_3?xO₄ does not exceed 0.9. When the copper amount in the initial mixture is higher a second phase CuO is formed. The copper ions are distributed over the A- and the B-sites of the spinel lattice, i.e. the spinel is partially inverted. Such a model explains well the data obtained about the lattice parameter, IR-absorption and the magnetic susceptibility of the samples with different x.
