Femtosecond laser pulse energy tunneling in the range of forbidden frequencies of a one-dimensional photonic crystal

The results of computer simulations demonstrate the possibility of light energy transmission through band gaps of a one-dimensional photonic crystal with fluctuating lengths of individual layers. In the case of weak (±5%) fluctuations, the light pulse energy partly penetrates in depth a photonic crystal. If fluctuations of the layer length are strong (±20%), the light pulse energy can be partly transmitted through the crystal.     

Sensitometric characteristics of an all‐solid‐state photoelectrochromic pixel for an electrochromic light‐addressable display

Abstract— An all solid‐state photoelectrochromic element (PECE) was developed on the basis of electrochromic layers of WO₃ and polyaniline with a layer of polymer electrolyte placed on a base of polyamidosulfoacid, in which a thin‐film CdS_xSe_1?x photoresistor was used as an electronic key. The dependence of the sensitometric characteristics of the PECE on the applied voltage was studied.     

Calculation of the molar volume of liquid hydrocarbons

Equations are proposed for calculating the molar volume of liquid hydrocarbons used in production of surfactants. Effect of reliability of grounding of the shaft of a turboset on the operation of devices for control and protection of exciting circuits

Disturbance of the grounding of the shaft of a turboset or its absence for technical reasons can result in failure, misoperation, limitation of the operating zone, errors or limitation of the sensitivity of devices for control and protection of exciting circuits from single-point leakage, and electroerosion of elements of the turboset structure. Ethynedithiol‐based polyeneoligosulfides as active cathode materials for lithium‐sulfur batteries

Ethynedithiol‐based polyeneoligosulfides have been synthesized in 96% yield by the reaction of sodium acetylides (HC?CNa, NaC?CSNa) and elemental sulfur through the Na? C_sp bond in liquid ammonia with the following spontaneous polymerization of ethynedithiols (HSC?CSH) formed by the hydrolysis. The polyeneoligosulfides synthesized are brown powders (up to 77% sulfur content, mp 128–184°C), partially soluble in organic solvents. They are high‐resistance semiconductors (10^?13 to 10^?14 S cm^?1), possess paramagnetic (10¹⁷ to 10¹⁸ spin g^?1) and redox properties. The oligosulfides obtained, being redox systems capable of reversible redox processes, provide high values of discharge capacity (345–720 mA h g^?1) of rechargeable lithium‐sulfur batteries. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dissolution of U,Np, Pu,and Am Oxides and Their Mixtures in Tributyl Phosphate Saturated with HNO3

It was shown for the first time that weighable amounts of uranium dioxide and its mixtures with Np, Pu, and Am in the form of solid solutions can be efficiently and quantitatively dissolved in the presence of tributyl phosphate saturated with HNO₃. Individual PuO₂ and NpO₂ are not dissolved under these conditions. In treatment of a mechanical mixture of UO₂ with PuO₂ or NpO₂, uranium is completely dissolved, while plutonium and neptunium remain in the precipitate.
