In this work, the diamond deposited by hot filament chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is polished using an atmospheric pressure plasma. In order to position the film relative to the plasma, a microactuator system is designed using a stack of domed piezoelectric actuators. A dynamic model based on the physical system is developed and the model parameters are measured experimentally. A system based on laser triangulation is used to measure the position of the diamond film relative to the plasma. Control techniques are used to reduce the oscillations during actuation and to eliminate the steady state positioning error. With the application of feedback control, the overshoot is reduced to 2% and the settling time is reduced to 0.3 s. A preliminary set of experiments is performed to relate process parameters to the final surface roughness of the diamond film. The parameters studied include the film's time of exposure to the plasma, the height of the film relative to the plasma, and the distance from the film to the center of the plasma. It is found that the optimum exposure time is 15 min and the reduction of surface roughness is greatest when the distance between the film and the plasma is at a minimum. The best results are obtained when the top of the film is even in elevation with the tip of the top electrode. The diamond film is translated laterally along the plasma. When feedback control is not used, there is no change in the surface roughness. With feedback control implemented, the surface roughness of the diamond film is reduced by 33%.  相似文献

The NEO Personality Inventory-Revised (NEO PI-R; P. T. Costa, Jr., & R. R. McRae, 1992) measures the 5-factor model of personality (Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness) and 30 specific personality facets within these domains. Researchers in personnel selection are beginning to use the NEO PI-R to describe the personality characteristics of high-functioning employees, including police officers. Here, 100 field training officers (FTOs) described the "best" entry-level police officers they had supervised, using the NEO PI-R Form R (Observer form). The resulting profile was notable for low Neuroticism, high Extraversion, and high Conscientiousness. NEO PI-R profiles of very high- and very low-performing entry-level officers were then compared. The low-performing group had higher Neuroticism and lower Conscientiousness scores than the high-performing group. The latter group was notable for low Neuroticism and high Conscientiousness scores that were similar to those obtained from the FTO sample. Normative data on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) for police officer applicants can be useful to psychologists involved in law enforcement selection. The relation of the MMPI-2 to an established police officer screening tool—the Inwald Personality Inventory (IPI)—helps practitioners evaluate the validity of the MMPI-2. The MMPI-2 and IPI were administered to 467 police officer applicants. MMPI-2 profiles were defensive, with elevations on L and K, low scores on Scales 2 and 0, and extreme Scale 5 scores. Correlations with the IPI were moderate for MMPI-2 clinical scales but substantial for two validity scales. MMPI-2 K correction influenced correlations considerably, a finding with implications for interpretation of MMPI-2 data on police officer applicants. The murine coronavirus, mouse hepatitis virus (MHV), JHM strain, induces a biphasic retinal disease in adult BALB/c mice. In the early phase of the disease, day 1 to 7, a retinal vasculitis is noted and is associated with the presence of virus particles. In the late phase of the disease, day 10 to 140, a retinal degeneration is observed and is associated with the absence of both virus particles and inflammatory cells. We show that the retinal degenerative process is also associated with the presence of antiretinal autoantibodies. In total, 22 of 23 sera collected from 10 to 70 days after JHM virus inoculation contained antiretinal autoantibodies. These autoantibodies are not found in sera from normal or mock-injected mice. Antibodies to retinal tissue were identified as two distinct patterns of immunoperoxidase staining on frozen sections of normal rat eyes, retinal autoantibodies and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) autoantibodies. The antiretinal autoantibodies first appeared as IgM class antibodies that shifted to IgG class autoantibodies. The anti-RPE cell autoantibodies were predominantly of the IgG class. Sera that were positive for these autoantibodies did not stain with liver or kidney sections but 2 of 3 did react with rat brain sections. A second mouse strain, CD-1, was also evaluated because these animals respond to JHM virus inoculation by developing only the early phase of this disease, i.e. vasculitis. On day 10 postinoculation, the retina architecture has a normal appearance. In these mice, which are free of a retinal degeneration, antiretinal autoantibodies are not produced. However, just as is noted in the BALB/c mice, antivirus neutralizing antibodies are produced in the infected CD-1 mice. These findings suggest a role for autoimmunity in the pathogenesis of murine coronavirus induced retinal degeneration. This study establishes an animal model for the study of humoral autoimmune responses in human retinal degenerations.  相似文献

The results of the experiments indicate that lime added to a clay, of the type studied here, combined chemically with certain of the various constituents of the clay when the mixture was fired at 1000°C. There is also an indication of reactions between iron oxide and silica. The exact nature and extent of these several possible reactions cannot be determined from the data of this limited experimental work. It would be of great value for work of this kind if more information was available relative to the chemical action of various reagents upon the several constituents of clay. Obviously it would be necessary to use pure substances representing these constituents rather than any mixture of them. Work was undertaken to obtain indication of the chemical changes which occur on firing a low lime clay and the same clay with calcium-carbonate additions.  相似文献

The effects of pancreatic secretagogues on the membrane fluidity of pancreatic acini were investigated using 1-[4-(trimethylammonium)phenyl]-6-phenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene iodide as a probe. Two kinds of pancreatic secretagogues, one category of which induces acute pancreatitis (cholecystokinin and carbachol) and another which does not induce acute pancreatitis (bombesin, CCK-JMV-180, and secretin), as well as lecithin were used to investigate the effect of changes in membrane fluidity of acini. Our study revealed that the membrane fluidity of the pancreatic acini was unaffected by a physiological dose (10(-11) M) of cholecystokinin. However, stimulation with a supramaximal dose of cholecystokinin (10(-8) M) increased membrane fluidity markedly within 20 min. Membrane fluidity increased dose-dependently with increasing CCK stimulation. A supramaximal dose of cholecystokinin also induced bleb formation and increased LDH release. These phenomena were blocked by simultaneous incubation with CR1505 (Loxiglumide), a potent antagonist of peripheral cholecystokinin receptors. A supramaximal dose of carbachol (10(-3) M) also induced increases in the membrane fluidity. Pancreatic secretagogues that do not induce acute pancreatitis did not induce alterations in membrane fluidity. Lecithin increased both membrane fluidity and LDH release. These observations suggest that this increase in membrane fluidity of the pancreatic acini may be related to membrane alteration and to functional damage of the acini.
