Free radical-mediated esophagitis was studied during duodenogastroesophageal reflux (mixed reflux) or acid reflux in rats. The influence of reflux on esophageal glutathione levels was also examined. Mixed reflux caused more gross mucosal injury than acid reflux. Gross mucosal injury occurred in the mid-esophagus. Total glutathione (GSH) in the esophageal mucosa of control rats was highest in the distal esophagus. The time course of esophageal GSH in rats treated by mixed reflux showed a significant decrease 4 hr after initiation of reflux, followed by a significant increase from the 12th hour on. Mucosal GSH was increased in both reflux groups after 24 hr but significantly more so in the mixed than in the acid reflux group. The free radical scavenger superoxide dismutase (SOD) prevented esophagitis and was associated with decreased GSH levels. GSH depletion by buthionine sulfoximine (BSO) prevented esophagitis and stimulated SOD production in the esophageal mucosa. It is concluded that gastroesophageal reflux is associated with oxidative stress in the esophageal mucosa. The lower GSH levels in the mid-esophagus may predispose to damage in this area. Duodenogastroesophageal reflux causes more damage than pure acid reflux. Oxidative stress leads to GSH depletion of the esophageal mucosa in the first few hours following damage but then stimulates GSH production. GSH depletion by BSO does not worsen esophagitis since it increases the esophageal SOD concentration. 相似文献

Bead-on-plate welding of zircaloy-4 (a reactive material) plates was conducted using electron beam according to central composite design of experiments. Its predictive models were developed in the form of knowledge-based systems in both forward and reverse directions using neural networks. Input parameters considered for this welding of reactive metals were accelerating voltage, beam current and weld speed. The responses of the welding process were measured in terms of bead width, depth of penetration and micro-hardness. Forward mapping of the welding process was conducted using regression analysis, back-propagation neural network (BPNN), genetic algorithm-tuned neural network (GANN) and particle swarm optimization algorithm-tuned neural network (PSONN). Reverse mapping of this process was also carried out using the BPNN, GANN and PSONN-based approaches. Neural network-based approaches could model this welding process of reactive material in both forward and reverse directions efficiently, which is required for the automation of the same. The performance of the neural network models was found to be data-dependent. The BPNN could outperform the other two approaches for most of the cases but not all in both the forward and reverse mappings. 相似文献

In this work we characterize the session-level behavior of users on an Indian mobile phone comparison shopping website. We also correlate the popularity of handset on various news sources to its popularity on the shopping website. There are three aspects to our study: data analysis, correlation between news sources of product information and popularity of a handset, and behavior prediction. We have used KL divergence to show that a time-homogeneous Markov chain is observed when the number of clicks varies from 5 to 30. Our results depict that Markov chain model does not hold in entirety for comparison shopping setting but tells us how far the Markov chain model holds for this setting. Our analysis corroborates intuition that increasing price leads to decrease in popularity. After the strong correlation between various variables and user behavior was found, we predict the users macro (the overall sales of handset) and micro behavior (whether a user will convert or exit the site) using Markov logic networks. Our predictive model validates the intuition that past browsing behavior is an important predictor for future behavior. Methodology of combining data analysis with machine learning is, in our opinion, a new approach to the empirical study of such data sets. 相似文献

An incremental force–displacement relation is derived using the finite element matrix method to study the inelastic bending of beams including transverse shear. Solutions are obtained for the case of a cantilever beam with a point load and a simply supported beam with distributed loading considering and also ignoring the effect of transverse shear. They show good agreement for those cases where solutions are available. Also, the effect of transverse shear is found to be quite significant. 相似文献

A numerical study of two-dimensional natural convection in fluid–superposed porous layers heated locally from below is reported based on the one-domain formulation of the conservation equations. The effects of five dimensionless parameters on overall Nusselt number are investigated: Rayleigh number based on overall layer height, heater-to-cavity length ratio, porous layer-to-cavity height ratio, domain aspect ratio, and Darcy number. Streamline and isotherm patterns indicate that convective motion is restricted to the overlying fluid layer with some penetration into the porous layer. Nusselt numbers increase with a decrease in the heater length and height ratio, and increase with the Darcy number. The size of the heat source does not affect the dependence of the heat transfer coefficient on height ratio and Darcy number. For domains with large aspect ratios, complex flow restructuring is observed with an increase in Rayleigh number. The present results represent an extension of the well studied problem of buoyant convection in fluid–superposed porous layers with a fully heated lower surface. 相似文献

Uranium–zirconium alloy is the potential candidate material as metallic fuels for nuclear reactor applications. Fabrication of uranium zirconium alloy can be made either by powder metallurgy or by melting method. Both the method has its own advantages and selection of the fabrication route depends on its application as fuel. In this work investigations were carried out on fabrication of uranium–zirconium alloys (i.e. U–40 wt% Zr, U–50 wt% Zr, U–60 wt% Zr and U–70 wt% Zr) using both powder metallurgy and melting method. Fluorescence spectra of coal derived asphaltenes sourced from Barari coke plant situated at Dhanbad, India, have been studied as a function of concentration in benzene, toluene and carbon tetrachloride with an eye to study the self-aggregation of the solute. Aggregation has been found to be a gradual process and the concentration characterizing onset of aggregation process coincide for the solvents. The critical aggregation constants (CAC) appear to be ca 90-100 and 180-200 for all the solvents. A small red shift of fluorescence band is observed when traces of water (∼0.05%, v/v) are present in carbon tetrachloride solution. 相似文献
