The effect of shear‐controlled orientation injection molding (SCORIM) was investigated for polybutene‐1/polypropylene blends. This article reports on the methods and processing conditions used for blending and injection molding. The properties of SCORIM moldings are compared with those of conventional moldings. SCORIM is based on the application of specific macroscopic shears to a solidifying melt. The multiple shear action enhances molecular alignment. The moldings were investigated with mechanical tests, differential scanning calorimetry studies, and polarized light microscopy. The application of SCORIM improved Young's modulus and the ultimate tensile strength. The gain in stiffness was greater for higher polybutene‐1 content blends. A drastic decrease in the strain at break and toughness was observed in SCORIM moldings. The enhanced molecular orientation of SCORIM moldings resulted in a featureless appearance of the morphology. Interfacial features due to segregation were visible in the micrographs of SCORIM moldings. Both conventional and SCORIM moldings exhibited form I′ in polybutene‐1. Pioneering psychology and co-design research has highlighted the potential that multi-user virtual environment (MUVE) may help architects’ exploratory creativity that is a recursive search to discover an optimal match of novel and appropriate solutions. However, it has been not reported hitherto in what ways MUVE helps or obstructs architects’ exploratory creativity in individual and collaborative modes of collaboration. To investigate this issue, we compared MUVE and sketching media in face-to-face and remote collaboration modes, involving 22 pairs of architecture major students. Based on interview and video-observation, we discovered that (1) in MUVE, anthropomorphic avatars, which other media do not have, enabled individual and collaborative explorations to discover unexpected affordances of new solutions, with evaluation on physical properties and layouts of solutions. In addition, (2) co-presence with collaborator’s avatars enabled inspiration on new ways of problem-solving and puzzle-making through shared design processes and events, with co-evaluation on social aspects of design solutions. (3) Co-presence in a shared environment also allowed mutual co-exploration that promotes emerging creative solutions, with co-modification on design errors. As barriers of MUVE, (4) avatar’s immersion caused inconvenient perception to explore large-scaled environments and track collaborators’ different experiences, but the barriers were not reported in remote collaboration.  相似文献

As the heart of any solid modelling system, much effort has been spent on formulating the data models which represent the shape of a polyhedral solid object within the computer in an accurate, unique and complete manner. Most of this effort has been devoted to make the models manipulateable in terms of computational efficiency, and preserve their semantic integrity. The price paid for achieving these goals is a proliferation of cross-reference data links which, coupled with multiple redundancy, renders the models inefficient for storage or transmission over communication channels. Moreover, the interrogation of these models by non-manipulative applications is usually unsupported functionally, requiring direct accesses to the data, which involves extensive pointer chasing and therefore high familiarity with the manipulative data structure.This paper presents an example relational model as a complementary logical scheme for viewing the shape database that facilitates compact storage and supports non-manipulative query operations through the projection, selection and join operators defined for the relational model, without requiring expert knowledge of the manipulative structure. The flexibility of the relational model, compared with that of the hierarchical, manipulative one, allows easy extensibility and the association of non-geometric attributes with each data item.  相似文献

The removal of copper ions from aqueous solutions by kaolinite was investigated by using a batch-type method. Effects of factors such as pH, ionic strength, temperature, acid-activation and calcination on copper adsorption were investigated. The uptake of copper was determined from changes in concentration as measured by atomic absorption spectrometry. The extent of copper adsorption increased with increasing pH and temperature and with decreasing ionic strength, acid-activation and calcination temperature. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were used to determine the isotherm parameters associated with the adsorption process. The results provide support for the adsorption of copper ions onto kaolinite. Thermodynamic parameters indicated the endothermic nature of copper adsorption on kaolinite. The experimental results were applied a batch design. As a result, the kaolinite may be used for removal of copper ions from aqueous solutions.  相似文献

This paper describes the process optimization in injection molding of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Both conventional injection molding and shear controlled orientation (SCORIM) were employed in processing. The process optimization was based on design of experiments and complemented with analysis of variance. Mechanical characterization was carried out by tensile testing. Wide-angle X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry were used for the structural characterization of the moldings. High-density polyethylene exhibits 7.2 GPa Young's modulus and 155 MPa of ultimate tensile strength following the application of SCORIM processing. These results account for a fourfold increase in Young's modulus and a fivefold increase in ultimate tensile strength compared to conventional injection molding. The maintenance of toughness while enhancing stiffness and strength of the SCORIM moldings is attributable to an oriented morphology developed during shear flow, i.e., shish-kebab structure. The frequency of shearing action has the strongest influence on the morphology development. It is also demonstrated that the studied parameters are very much interdependent. It is possible to achieve substantial gains in mechanical properties of HDPE in SCORIM processing without causing a substantial increase in cycle time. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Worldview is a computer-aided architectural and engineering design system that combines the power of geometric modeling utilities with the intuitive design and communication capabilities of drafting utilities. This article describes the basic design concepts and implementation of the system, achieved by representing the designed artifact nonredundantly in a three-dimensional "world" and manipulating it through multiple two-dimensional "viwes." The world consists of a collection of shapes that store all the formative information pertinent to the designed artifact, while the views consist of images of selected shapes, generated through particular two-way mapping transforms. Several views that dapict the same set of shapes through different transforms can be displayed simultaneously, using multiple, dynamic, user-defined windows, thereby enabling addressability of points in the 3D world. Views also include such design and communication aids as dimension lines, construction lines, annotations, and graphic symbols to enhance the visual content of the images without encumbering the representation of the shapes themselves. Modifications applied to the shapes through any view are immediately apparent in all other views in which the shapes are imaged. The shapes are represented by a data structure based on the hybrid-edge data model, which facilites the integration of points, lines, surfaces, and volumetric bodies into one formative hierarchy. The integration of drafting and modeling simplifies the use of powerful modeling utilities by designers, facilitates the communication of the designed artifact, and enhances the integrity of the design as a whole.  相似文献

A suite of prototype CAD (computer-aided design) tools has been developed as part of an educational experiment in which an architectural design studio course was combined with a computer science graduate course on architectural CAD to study the collaboration between architects and their clients in a computer-based environment. The suite of tools is based on formalized abstractions inspired by lessons learned in the VLSI (very large-scale integrated circuit) CAD revolution of the 1980s. It encourages a step-by-step transformation of a building program, first into symbolic representations that can be checked and evaluated with automated programs, and eventually into simple but consistent 3-D (three-dimensional) geometry that can be inspected with an interactive walk-through visualization program.  相似文献
