Multifilament Ag-sheathed BiPbSrCaCuO (2223) superconducting tapes containing 49 filaments were fabricated by the powder-in-tube route and the roll-anneal process. The transport critical current densityJ c was 1.3×104 A cm–2 at 77 K and 7×104 A cm–2 at 4.2 K in self-field. A 12-m-long tape was used to construct superconducting solenoids (50, 28, and 14 mm internal diameters) generating dc fields 380–1070 G at 4.2 K. Measurements of the variation ofJ c with field (0–1.6 T) and bend strain (0–5%) are used to explain the performance of the solenoids. The critical bend strain of tapes was about 1.5%.  相似文献

Silver/superconductor composites containing 0 to 80 vol% silver have been prepared and their properties determined. Optimum heat treatment at sintering temperatures ( 800° C) under low oxygen pressures produces material with high critical current density and improves physical properties. Magnetic susceptibility measurements have been found to be consistent with resistivity results. In order to retain a single high-T c phase with increasing silver content, decreased oxygen partial pressures are required. Using the normal-state resistivity of these composites, a percolation threshold at a silver volume fraction of 43% was observed, while zero resistivity measurements show that a continuous superconducting network can be obtained with up to 80 vol% silver. The critical current density of 21 vol% silver-doped samples was found to be 1520 A cm–2 at 77.3 K, compared to 260 A cm–2 for an undoped sample.  相似文献

We describe a general probabilistic framework for matching patterns that experience in-plane nonlinear deformations, such as iris patterns. Given a pair of images, we derive a maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) estimate of the parameters of the relative deformation between them. Our estimation process accomplishes two things simultaneously: it normalizes for pattern warping and it returns a distortion-tolerant similarity metric which can be used for matching two nonlinearly deformed image patterns. The prior probability of the deformation parameters is specific to the pattern-type and, therefore, should result in more accurate matching than an arbitrary general distribution. We show that the proposed method is very well suited for handling iris biometrics, applying it to two databases of iris images which contain real instances of warped patterns. We demonstrate a significant improvement in matching accuracy using the proposed deformed Bayesian matching methodology. We also show that the additional computation required to estimate the deformation is relatively inexpensive, making it suitable for real-time applications  相似文献

As biometric authentication systems become more prevalent, it is becoming increasingly important to evaluate their performance. This paper introduces a novel statistical method of performance evaluation for these systems. Given a database of authentication results from an existing system, the method uses a hierarchical random effects model, along with Bayesian inference techniques yielding posterior predictive distributions, to predict performance in terms of error rates using various explanatory variables. By incorporating explanatory variables as well as random effects, the method allows for prediction of error rates when the authentication system is applied to potentially larger and/or different groups of subjects than those originally documented in the database. We also extend the model to allow for prediction of the probability of a false alarm on a "watch-list" as a function of the list size. We consider application of our methodology to three different face authentication systems: a filter-based system, a Gaussian mixture model (GMM)-based system, and a system based on frequency domain representation of facial asymmetry  相似文献

Plasma deposited silicon nitride thin films were deposited at temperatures between 150/spl deg/C and 300/spl deg/C. Diagnostic microstructures were fabricated from the thin films using bulk micromachining, and the strain was calculated from optical measurement of postbuckling deflection. The results indicate that the residual strain of the thin films is dominated by film-substrate thermal mismatch, with the coefficient of thermal expansion monotonically increasing with decreasing deposition temperature. Metal-insulator-metal devices of variable area were also fabricated to measure the dielectric constant, which was shown to be independent of deposition temperature. The importance of these results to microsystems technology (MST) was briefly discussed.  相似文献

Face recognition on mobile devices, such as personal digital assistants and cell phones, is a big challenge owing to the limited computational resources available to run verifications on the devices themselves. One approach is to transmit the captured face images by use of the cell-phone connection and to run the verification on a remote station. However, owing to limitations in communication bandwidth, it may be necessary to transmit a compressed version of the image. We propose using the image compression standard JPEG2000, which is a wavelet-based compression engine used to compress the face images to low bit rates suitable for transmission over low-bandwidth communication channels. At the receiver end, the face images are reconstructed with a JPEG2000 decoder and are fed into the verification engine. We explore how advanced correlation filters, such as the minimum average correlation energy filter [Appl. Opt. 26, 3633 (1987)] and its variants, perform by using face images captured under different illumination conditions and encoded with different bit rates under the JPEG2000 wavelet-encoding standard. We evaluate the performance of these filters by using illumination variations from the Carnegie Mellon University's Pose, Illumination, and Expression (PIE) face database. We also demonstrate the tolerance of these filters to noisy versions of images with illumination variations.  相似文献

Mg2Sn compounds were prepared by the modified vertical Bridgman method, and were doped with Bi and Ag to obtain n- and p-type materials, respectively. Excess Mg was also added to some of the ingots to compensate for the loss of Mg during the preparation process. The Mg2Sn samples were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and their power factors were calculated from the Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity, measured from 80 K to 700 K. The sample prepared with 4% excess Mg, which contains a small amount of Mg2Sn + Mg eutectic phase, had the highest power factor of 12 × 10−3 W m−1 K−2 at 115 K, while the sample doped with 2% Ag, in which a small amount of eutectics also exists, has a power factor of 4 × 10−3 W m−1 K−2 at 420 K.  相似文献

Structure, hardness, and elastic modulus of nanolayered aluminium/palladium thin films, with individual layer thickness varying from 1 nm to 40 nm, were investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and nanoindentation. TEM micrographs indicated a sharp but not flat Al-Pd interface. With just 6.5% (v/v) Pd a hardness enhancement of ~ 200% was observed for nanolayered Al/Pd compared to the hardness of pure Al film. A maximum hardness enhancement of up to 350% was observed for nanolayered Al/Pd samples compared to the hardness of pure Al film when bilayer thickness was 2 nm and Pd was 50% (v/v). Modulus enhancement was also observed for the nanolayered thin films.  相似文献

The novel property of fluorescein to detect peroxyl radicals is demonstrated. On the basis of this observation, a fluorescein-based, flow-cytometric method to directly and continuously detect free radicals generated in cell membranes during lipid peroxidation has been developed. 5- and 6-Carboxyfluorescein (5-/6-CF) free in solution and fluorescein-labeled polylysine lose their fluorescence gradually upon addition of a peroxyl-radical-generating system (thermal decomposition of 2,2'-azobis(2-amidinopropane) [AAPH]). 5-/6-CF retains its fluorescence when exposed to AAPH in the presence of the peroxyl radical scavenger Trolox. When 5-/6-CF free in solution is incubated with red blood cells exposed to cumene hydroperoxide (CH), a similar loss of fluorescence occurs due to lipid peroxidation on RBC membranes, which is preventable by pretreatment of the cells with Trolox or vitamin E. Undecylamine-fluorescein (C11-fluor), a lipophilic fluorescein conjugate, has been incorporated into the membranes of RBC. Upon addition of CH, a decrease in fluorescence is fluorometrically observed that is proportional to the amount of hydroperoxide added and inhibited by preincubation with Trolox or vitamin E. Flow-cytometric studies are then performed to demonstrate that C11-fluor can monitor free radicals generated during lipid peroxidation on a cell-by-cell basis. When exposed to CH, a time-dependent shift of the flow-cytometric profile toward lower values is observed that is inhibited by Trolox or vitamin E. This approach in conjunction with multiparametric flow cytometry may allow examination of the biologic significance of lipid peroxidation by correlation to other cellular end points on single cells.  相似文献
