Effects of the concentrations of precursor and catalyst on the formation of monodisperse silica particles in sol–gel reaction

The monodispersed hybrid silica particles could be synthesized through the one-step sol–gel reaction with organosilane (3-mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane, MPTMS) in aqueous solution. In this study, the effects of the concentrations of organosilane and the catalyst ((NH₄OH) on the formation of silica particles were investigated. For the first time we reported the successful one-step synthesis of monodisperse hybrid silica particles using organosilane chemicals in the previous study. In order to obtain better insight about the reaction processes, the silica particles were prepared in the presence of various concentrations of MPTMS and NH₄OH. On the basis of the experimental results, it was found that particle size increases as the concentration of organosilane increases. Also, as the concentration of catalyst increases, the diameter of these monodisperse particles decreases significantly. This research can contribute to a new broad avenue for the surface functionalization and hybrid material formation with various sizes.     

Movie browsing system based on character and emotion

A variety of research is in progress to detect wanted scenes from videos. A method of detecting scenes wanted by a user through scene rearrangement based on calculated visual similarity is limited in that such a method does not reflect elements along the storyline through which a user remembers a movie. A movie’s story is built up by characters, and such build-up is closely related with emotions of characters in a film. A movie browsing system based on storyline is executable by applying characters and those characters’ emotions. Thus, methods of extracting key characters in each scene and of clustering scenes through extraction of emotion vectors from dialogues in each scene are hereby suggested. This paper also proposes to develop a movie browsing method and a system based on emotions of characters.     

Affective social network—happiness inducing social media platform

We propose a human emotion regarding social network, namely, the Affective Social Network. Our suggestion firstly builds a user’s emotion profile in terms of the personality, mood and emotion by analysing the user’s activities in social network. This subsequently builds an Emotional Relationship Matrix (ERM) which represents the depth of the emotional relationship based on the emotion profile. From our proposal, the more elaborate services based on the current user’s emotional state can be provided to users. By considering emotional aspects in a social network, we can effectively answer which users or media contents will show the best results for inducing users’ emotional states. From the experiments, we verified that message containing emotional words and users’ relationship in a social network has significant correlations.
