The slow flow of a viscous liquid with a free surface in the drain from bulk mixers at a given flow rate is modeled. A mathematical problem is formulated in a creeping-flow approximation. On the basis of the boundary element method, a numerical algorithm for solving the problem in a planar formulation is developed. Parametric studies of the main characteristics of the process as functions of control parameters are performed. Two flow patterns are studied. The dependence of the liquid holdup on control parameters at the moment the free surface reaches the plane of the drain hole is described. The stress distribution in the flow region is found. The calculation results are compared with the data of numerical and physical modeling of the drain in an axysimmetric formulation and also with the solution of the problem in the creeping-flow approximation. 相似文献

The flow of a viscoplastic fluid during the filling of a flat vertical channel was studied. The mathematical problem was formulated based on the complete equations of motion and natural boundary conditions on a free surface; the problem was solved by the finite-difference method. For shock-capturing, the Schwedoff–Bingham rheological equation was regularized. A parametric study of the flow characteristics and behavior of the free boundary was performed depending on the main parameters of the problem. The characteristic flow structures were demonstrated depending on the ratio of viscous, gravitational, and plastic forces in the flow. 相似文献

In this paper we show how clustered representations emerge within a simple neural network which simulates some aspects of the development of the mammalian neocortex. Synapse death and stabilization, postulated to occur in the real neocortex are modelled. The representations that emerge under certain conditions show a spatially hierarchical coarse- and fine-grain cluster structure. In two sets of simulations where the relative lengths of excitory and inhibitory links are different we show that the emergence of clustered representations depends upon changes to this parameter. 相似文献

The flow of a high-viscosity liquid that partially fills a horizontal cylinder rotating at constant velocity is considered. A problem is mathematically formulated in the creeping-flow approximation and is numerically solved by the boundary-element method. Parametric studies of the kinematic and dynamic characteristics of the process as functions of control parameters are performed. Two flow patterns are revealed, and critical parameter values separating these patterns are found.
