In this study, a theoretical method for predicting the longitudinal dispersion coefficient is developed based on the transverse velocity distribution in natural streams. Equations of the transverse velocity profile for irregular cross sections of the natural streams are analyzed. Among the velocity profile equations tested in this study, the beta distribution equation, which is a probability density function, is considered to be the most appropriate model for explaining the complex behavior of the transverse velocity structure of irregular natural streams. The new equation for the longitudinal dispersion coefficient that is based on the beta function for the transverse velocity profile is developed. A comparison of the proposed equation with existing equations and the observed longitudinal dispersion coefficient reveals that the proposed equation shows better agreement with the observed data compared to other existing equations.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The effect of topical corticosteroids after excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) remains a matter of some controversy. Refractive effects may be different according to the amount of myopia and timing of instillation. METHODS: Two groups of patients were studied: Study A consisted of 215 eyes (128 patients) with PRK (mean baseline myopia, -6.53 +/- 2.22 D) that received no corticosteroids (No Corticosteroid Group) unless significant regression or corneal haze appeared (Delayed Corticosteroid Group), and in Study B, we randomly assigned eyes to the Initial Corticosteroid Group (mean baseline myopia, -6.39 +/- 1.84 D) or the No/delayed Corticosteroid Group (mean baseline myopia -5.78 +/- 2.02 D). Clinical results after PRK for low-to-moderate and high myopia were compared. RESULTS: In the first group, 70.9% (73 eyes) of moderately myopic eyes (mean, -4.56 +/- 1.10 D) belonged to the No Corticosteroid Group that had a mean refraction of -5.39 +/- 1.77 D. Delayed Corticosteroid Group eyes were more myopic (mean, -7.52 +/- 2.10 D), and showed more severe haze than those in the No Corticosteroid Group. In study B, only in high myopes with more than -6.00 D (mean, -7.76 +/- 1.15 D) did refraction and corneal haze outcomes show significant difference between the Initial Corticosteroid Group and the No/delayed Corticosteroid Group. CONCLUSIONS: The effects of topical corticosteroids after PRK were less in moderate myopes compared to high myopes. Delayed instillation of corticosteroids did not reverse the regression or haze whereas initial instillation showed a beneficial effect on high myopes but not on moderate myopes.  相似文献

The convexity and continuity of fuzzy mappings are defined through a linear ordering and a metric on the set of fuzzy numbers. The local-global minimum property of real-valued convex functions is extended to convex fuzzy mappings. It is proved that a strict local minimizer of a quasiconvex fuzzy mapping is also a strict global minimizer. Characterizations for convex fuzzy mappings and quasiconvex fuzzy mappings are given. In addition, the Weirstrass theorem is extended from real-valued functions to fuzzy mappings.  相似文献

Features of the electrochemical reduction of nitric oxide on platinum, palladium, rhodium and ruthenium in aqueous perchloric acid solutions (0.33–1.0 M) are compared. The results from voltammetric studies (ie linear potential sweep and rotating disc electrode) using the bulk metal electrodes are described and compared with residual current voltage plots in acid electrolyte alone. In general, three nitric oxide reduction peaks are observed on the metals. The most anodic peak, at ca E = 0.15 V vs sce is attributed to the one-electron reduction of nitric oxide to an adsorbed NOH intermediate on a bare metal surface (ie one free of oxides or adsorbed hydrogen). The other two peaks occur in potential regions where adsorbed hydrogen is present on the metal surface (ca E = 0.0 and −0.20 V, respectively). The co-adsorbed hydrogen complicates the analysis and precludes an unambiguous interpretation of these two peaks. However, they apparently reflect nitric oxide reduction to nitrogen, hydroxylamine and/or ammonia. In a cathodic scan on the rhodium electrode, a current plateau is seen instead of the first (most anodic) peak, a probable consequence of oxide film formation with subsequent chemical complications. On the ruthenium electrode the first two (most anodic) peaks are not observed probably due to a relatively stable oxide layer. Reaction selectivities at metal black gas diffusion cathodes operating in an electrogenerative (ie galvanic) mode with perchloric acid electrolyte are compared with the voltammetric results at the corresponding bulk electrodes. Dinitrogen formation is observed on the platinum and rhodium black electrodes as suggested from voltammetric results. A series-parallel reaction sequence is proposed to explain the results. Limitations of using simple voltammetric techniques for predicting behavior of large scale preparative electrochemical reactors are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, we apply multi-antenna scheme to DAB system for high-rate transmission. In the MIMO-DAB system with a number of transmitting and receiving antennas increases the transmission rate efficiently with low multiplication operations. For channel estimation in the MIMO-DAB system, we propose a new PRS structure and evaluate the channel estimation performance. The proposed PRS structure can estimate multi-channel information based on the semi-blind processing. The performance of proposed PRS is compared with that of conventional training sequence employing Tarokh's transmission matrix. And also we investigate the performance limitation due to the imperfect channel estimation in a MIMO-DAB receiver. It has been shown that the MIMO-DAB system with multi-antennas can achieve the high-rate transmission for multimedia broadcasting and the performance of MIMO-DAB system is impaired by imperfect channel information.  相似文献

We developed a new type of human-sized biped walking robot (BWR) driven by the closed-chain type of joint actuator. Each leg of the robot is composed of three pitch joints and one roll joint. In all, a 15 degree-of-freedom robot including four arm joints and three joints for the head was developed. The BWR was developed to walk autonomously such that all leg joints are actuated by small 90 W dc motors/drivers and dc batteries and controllers which are boarded. The joint actuator for the BWR is composed of the four-bar-link mechanism driven by the ball screw which has high strength and high gear ratio. A dynamics modeling of the developed BWR for forward walking is presented in which the revolute joint dynamics are transformed into the prismatic joint dynamics of the ball screw. Also, an analysis on the four-bar-link mechanism applied to the joint actuator and on the structure of the BWR is shown. The design specification of the actuating motor for the BWR is analyzed through the torque analysis of the four-bar-link actuator. Through walking experiments of the BWR, the walking performance and trajectory tracking ability is shown. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

To examine affect and cognition in differentiating anxiety and depression, 83 older participants with generalized anxiety disorder completed the Cognitive Checklist (CCL) and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS). A 3-factor solution was found for the PANAS: positive affect (PA), anxiety and anger (Negative Affect 1 [NA-1]), and guilt and shame (Negative Affect 2 [NA-2]). A 2-factor structure was noted for the CCL. Correlations with anxiety and depression measures suggested that the CCL Depression (CCL-D) subscale showed stronger correlations with depression, whereas the CCL Anxiety subscale did not uniquely correlate with anxiety. The NA-1 subscale correlated positively with measures of depression and anxiety, whereas the PA subscale showed negative correlations. We describe an implementation of a vector quantization codebook design algorithm based on the frequencysensitive competitive learning artificial neural network. The implementation, designed for use on high-performance computers, employs both multitasking and vectorization techniques. A C version of the algorithm tested on a CRAY Y-MP8/864 is discussed. We show how the implementation can be used to perform vector quantization, and demonstrate its use in compressing digital video image data. Two images are used, with various size codebooks, to test the performance of the implementation. The results show that the supercomputer techniques employed have significantly decreased the total execution time without affecting vector quantization performance.This work was supported by a Cray University Research Award and by NASA Lewis research grant number NAG3-1164.  相似文献
