Abstract

Current generation of hypertext systems suffer from the limitations that they are static in nature, and they do not support the automated process of link creation very well. Because of the efforts involved in manually creating links, the hyperbases created using these systems are seldom modified even when they were found not to fully support the requirements of the intended users. This paper studies the development of automated tools to aid in the process of link creation, browsing, and link refinement. Only relation links are considered in this study. The automated tools are developed to help in three of the major stages of developing and using hypertext applications: (a) during authoring to generate a set of relation links between pairs of nodes; (b) during browsing to recommend an optimal set of starting nodes for the users to begin browsing, and to guide the users at each stage of browsing by suggesting a set of “next” nodes to traverse; and, (c) during training to modify, remove and add links based on users' feedback data collected. The training will result in long-term changes in the hypertext structure.

In order to test the effectiveness of the training process objectively, a navigator is built to simulate the browsing activities of the users. The effects of training have been evaluated on two text collections using a variety of objective measures. The results indicate that the training process has improved the effectiveness of the hyperbase to support browsing.  相似文献

Accurate video tagging has been becoming increasingly crucial for online video management and search. This article documents a novel framework called comprehensive video tagger (CVTagger) to facilitate accurate tag-based video annotation. The system applies both multimodal and temporal properties combined with a novel classification framework with hierarchical structure based on multilayer concept model and regression analysis. The advanced architecture enables effective incorporation of both video concept dependency and temporal dynamics. Using a large-scale test collection containing 50,000 YouTube videos, a set of empirical studies have been carried out and experimental results demonstrate various advantages of CVTagger over the state-of-the-art techniques.  相似文献

A new testing technique, which relates the physical stress state of rock subjected to simultaneous coupled static and dynamic stresses, is presented. The method involves modification of a split Hopkinson pressure bar, such that the test specimen is subjected to coupled axial static pre-stress, axial impact loading, and optional confining pressure. Tests on siltstone specimens with different coupling loads showed that the strength of the specimens under coupling loads was higher than their corresponding individual static or dynamic strengths. In the grade size distribution, the percentage of small size particles of fractured specimen increases with higher coupling loads. The strength of rock under coupling loads decreases rapidly when the axial pre-compression stress is greater than 70% of the static strength of rock (with identical impact loading). However, with constant axial pre-compression stress and increasing impact loading, the strength of siltstone increases initially and reaches a maximum constant value.  相似文献

This paper introduces HCOMET, a composition editor developed to facilitate writing in a hypermedia environment. HCOMET provides an environment for on-line capture and manipulation of ‘thoughts and ideas’ in a multi dimensional and multimedia manner. Composition as a mechanism for structuring and organization of information (to supplement the basic node and link model) is considered an important issue in the future generation of hypermedia systems. This paper discusses the basic issues in supporting composition, and describes the design and implementation of HCOMET. The use of HCOMET in application development is also discussed.  相似文献

This paper introduces an effective interactive video retrieval system named VisionGo. It jointly explores human and computer to accomplish video retrieval with high effectiveness and efficiency. It assists the interactive video retrieval process in different aspects: (1) it maximizes the interaction efficiency between human and computer by providing a user interface that supports highly effective user annotation and an intuitive visualization of retrieval results; (2) it employs a multiple feedback technique that assists users in choosing proper method to enhance relevance feedback performance; and (3) it facilitates users to assess the retrieval results of motion-related queries by using motion-icons instead of static keyframes. Experimental results based on over 160 h of news video shows demonstrate the effectiveness of the VisionGo system.  相似文献

In recent years, the emergence of georeferenced media, like geotagged photos, on the Internet has opened up a new world of possibilities for geographic related research and applications. Despite of its short history, georeferenced media has been attracting attentions from several major research communities of Computer Vision, Multimedia, Digital Libraries and KDD. This paper provides a comprehensive survey on recent research and applications on online georeferenced media. Specifically, the survey focuses on four aspects: (1) organizing and browsing georeferenced media resources, (2) mining semantic/social knowledge from georeferenced media, (3) learning landmarks in the world, and (4) estimating geographic location of a photo. Furthermore, based on the current technical achievements, open research issues and challenges are identified, and directions that can lead to compelling applications are suggested.  相似文献
