Enhancement of heat and mass transfer in a plane channel with turbulizers on one of the walls

The effect of turbulizing asperities positioned on one of the walls of a plane channel on the intensity of exchange processes near a smooth wall with injection of different working media is studied experimentally. Self-ignition and combustion of a water-fuel emulsion during its injection into heated air. II. Ignition delay time of M-40 fuel oil

We studied experimentally the influence of the degree of water emulsification ofM-40 mazut heated to the water boiling point on the self-ignition time with its pulsed high-pressure injection into heated air. It is shown that water addition does not change the chemistry of the reaction and heating the water-fuel emulsion leads to the disappearance of differences in the ignition character of the emulsion and the moisture-free fuel. It is confirmed that the features of selfignition are determined mostly by conditions of mixture formation. Indirect evidence is obtained that the dynamic tensile strength of the fluid strongly influences the primary dispersion of the jet during its outflow from the sprayer nozzle.Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Novosibirsk 630090. Synthesis of Distillation Flowsheets with Fully Coupled Heat and Material Flows Using Graph Theory

Procedure for the evaluation of the accumulation of defects in metallic structural materials under complex elastoplastic loading

Within framework of the continual fracture mechanics, we describe the engineering approach to the assessment of scattered microdamage accumulation kinetics in metallic materials under elastoplastic loading conditions in case of plane stressed state. Automatized experimental stand and the respective investigation technique are discussed. The stand has been developed based on modification of the UMé-10T electromechanic test machine. State-of-the-art computer technologies and microprocessing hardware are incorporated in the stand automation. We present the technique of experimental assessment of damage accumulation kinetics in metallic structural materials under complex elastoplastic loading conditions with account of two different fracture (cleavage and shear) processes, which technique is based on measuring the specific electric resistance of the specimen. __________ Translated from Problemy Prochnosti, No. 1, pp. 128–137, January–February, 2006.     

Surface adsorption of comb polymers by Monte Carlo simulations

This paper reports off-lattice Monte Carlo simulations of highly-branched comb homopolymers weakly adsorbed on a flat, featureless surface showing only covolume and dispersion interactions with the adsorbate. A minimal coarse-grained model, described by hard spheres connected by harmonic springs, was employed. The interaction energy of the adsorbed combs and linear chains is first discussed as a function of the molecular mass and of the number of beads in contact with the surface. The molecular size is then investigated as a function of backbone length and branching density at a fixed arm size. The apparent swelling exponents of the adsorbed combs are larger than those of the corresponding linear chains, and much larger than that of the free molecules. This result indicates a surface-induced stiffening of the comb backbone, further studied through the persistence length l_pers. It is found that l_pers increases upon adsorption over the free-molecule value, more so the larger is the branching density. Finally, the thickness of the adsorbed layer, the surface-induced molecular anisotropy and the molecular aspect ratio are investigated as a function of branching density and molecular mass.     

Flowsheet synthesis for the extractive distillation of azeotropic mixtures in systems consisting of columns with partially coupled heat and material flows

The earlier proposed flowsheet synthesis methods for the distillation of zeotropic mixtures and the extractive distillation of ternary mixtures using two-product columns is used to develop a flowsheet synthesis method for the extractive distillation with partially coupled heat and material flows. The distillation of azeotropic mixtures with a complex liquid-vapor equilibrium diagram is used to illustrate the feasibility analysis of the flowsheets synthesized by the developed method.     

Energy-saving technologies of autoextractive distillation of an acetone-chloroform-n-butanol-dimethylformamide mixture

The autoextractive distillation of an azeotropic solvent mixture of acetone, chloroform, n-butanol, and dimethylformamide is considered. A set of flowsheets belonging to different structural classes is synthesized (flowsheets containing two-withdrawal columns and flowsheets involving complex columns with a single side section). The flowsheet that is optimal in energy consumption is revealed, and it is shown that flowsheets with coupled heat and material flows are more efficient than conventional ones.

Hot Rolling of Strip with Lubricant: Theoretical and Practical Aspects

The use of lubricant in the hot rolling of steel strip by means of broad-strip mills is considered, in theoretical and practical terms. The benefits of the lubricant are shown. Throlle delivery of lubricant to the deformation zone is analyzed. Practical methods of supplying lubricants to the rolls and the deformation zone are assessed. Recommendations are made regarding lubricant selection. Methods are proposed for calculating the lubricant flow rate in hot strip rolling.
