The chemically crosslinked network structures make epoxies, the most common thermosets, unable or hard to be recycled, causing environmental problems and economic losses. Epoxy-based vitrimers, polymer networks deriving from epoxy resins, can be thermally malleable according to bond exchange reactions (BERs), opening the door to recycle epoxy thermosets. Here a series of experiments were carried out to study the effects of processing conditions (such as particle size distributions, temperature, time, and pressure) on recycling of an epoxy-anhydride vitrimer. Polymer powders from the epoxy-anhydride vitrimer with different size distributions were prepared and characterized, and the influence of particle size on the mechanical performance of recycled epoxy-anhydride vitrimers was investigated by dynamic mechanical analysis and uniaxial tensile test. Experimental results demonstrated that finer polymer powders can increase the contacting surfaces of recycled materials and thus result in high quality of recycled materials. In addition, the influences of other treating parameters, such as temperature, time, and pressure, were also discussed in this study. Adjusting these treating parameters can help the design of an optimized reprocessing procedure to meet practical engineering applications. 相似文献

W(CO)6 and H2O2 were used in an atomic layer deposition (ALD)‐like process to grow thin WOx films onto TiO2 powders in a fluidized bed reactor. Carbonyl precursors are not widely used in this application, so that deviations from an ideal ALD process, previously not examined with W(CO)6, were identified. The resulting WOx films were a result of both ALD‐like and chemical vapor deposition‐based growth modes. A chemical reaction mechanism incorporating a combination of these two growth modes was inferred. As the move to expand the range of ALD precursors meets with the desire to scale up these processes, the simultaneous appearance of both these growth modes is likely to become more and more common, and so understanding the interaction of these two types of surface reactions is key to progress in the field. The films were observed to inhibit the anatase‐to‐rutile phase transformation in the TiO2 powders upon high temperature annealing, while crystallization of the amorphous WO3 was also not observed. A series of 26 different antioxidants and commercial antioxidant packages designed for petroleum‐based materials, containing both natural and synthetic‐based materials, were evaluated with dimeric coconut‐oleic estolide 2‐ethylhexyl ester (2‐EH), a bio‐based material. The different antioxidants were categorized into different classes of phenolic, aminic, and blended/others materials. The oxidation onset temperatures (OT) using non‐isothermal pressurized differential scanning calorimetry (PDSC) were measured and recorded under previously reported standard conditions. The aminic series gave the best resistance to oxidation as defined by the PDSC method with OT of 246.6 and 244.7 °C for the best two performers, which was a 38 °C improvement over the uninhibited or unformulated dimer estolide material. The phenolic series, containing most of the naturally occurring antioxidants, was the least successful formulation package for the dimer estolide. The blended/other materials, which were specifically designed for petroleum‐based lubricants, did not have the best OT, since the estolides and other bio‐based materials interact differently than their petroleum counterparts. A number of potential antioxidants have been identified as useful additives for the estolides esters. The OT of the estolide and formulated materials correlated well with other bio‐based materials such as biodiesel. 相似文献

In order to investigate the putative association between chemical contamination in western Lake Ontario and high prevalences of fish tumors, sediments from Hamilton Harbour and Oakville Creek in Lake Ontario and reference sites in non-polluted areas of Ontario, Canada were collected and extracted for organic contaminants. Sediment extracts from Hamilton Harbour had the highest concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls and organochlorine insecticides (ppb) and contained very high concentrations of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (ppm); although the levels of these compounds varied widely with sampling location in the harbor. A sediment extract from Hamilton Harbour was mutagenic in the Ames bacterial assay, both with and without microsomal activation. High levels of aromatic DNA adducts were induced in cultured mouse C3H1OT1/2 cells after in vitro exposure to Hamilton Harbour sediment extract. In two separate carcinogenicity experiments involving a sac fry microinjection assay with rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Hamilton Harbour sediment extract induced hepatocellular carcinomas in fish. No hepatic neoplasms were observed in fish that had been treated with sediment extract from Oakville Creek, or with extract from a reference sediment. The significance of these results is discussed in relation to the distribution of neoplasms in feral fish within western Lake Ontario. 相似文献

To minimize the risk posed by runoff from row crops, Prince Edward Island introduced buffer legislation in 2000. The legislation mandates 10-m and 20-m buffers, respectively, for moderate sloped (i.e. < 5%) and steep sloped (i.e. > 5%) agricultural fields that border streams. Since 2001, Environment Canada has been evaluating the effectiveness of various buffer widths on operational farms in reducing toxicity and contaminant concentrations in runoff. Sample collectors, placed in 44 fields at the field edge (0 m), 10 m and at distances out to 30 m, collected overland flow following rainfall-induced runoff events. Samples were collected within 24 hours of an event and analysed for seven pesticides (endosulfan, chlorothalonil, carbofuran, linuron, metribuzin, metalaxyl, mancozeb), water quality parameters and Daphnia magna toxicity. The 10-m buffer required for moderate sloped fields was effective at reducing contaminant concentrations but not always to less than lethal concentrations to Daphnia magna. Limited data beyond 10 m for fields of both slope types precluded making recommendations on a suitable buffer width for shallow sloped fields and evaluating the effectiveness of 20-m buffers for steep sloped fields. When paired data were combined and statistically tested for all fields, the studied pesticides underwent a 52-98% and 68-100% reduction in aqueous and particulate concentrations within 10 m and 30 m, respectively. In addition, by 10 m, soluble phosphorus, nitrate-nitrogen and total suspended solids were reduced by 34%, 38% and 64%, respectively. Results suggest buffer zones on operational farms are capable of achieving contaminant reductions comparable to those reported for controlled experiments. Inconsistent siting of sample collectors beyond 10 m limited the evaluation of the effects of field slope and buffer width on buffer effectiveness on working farms. Future studies on buffer efficiency on operational farms should focus on building the data set beyond 10 m and evaluating load reductions. 相似文献

The Urban Regeneration and the Environment Research Programme (URGENT) required a system for cataloguing its datasets and enabling its scientific community to discover what data were available to it. This community was multidisciplinary in nature and therefore needed a range of facilities for searching. Of particular importance were facilities to help those unfamiliar with specialist terminology. To meet these needs, four applications were designed and developed: a Metadata Capture Tool for describing datasets in compliance with the National Geospatial Data Framework (NGDF) standard, a Term Entry Tool for creating an ISO compliant thesaurus, a Thesaurus Builder for merging thesauri and a Search Tool. To encourage users to help in cataloguing data, the capture tools were written as stand alone applications, which users could keep and use to build their own metadatabases. The tools contained export and import facilities that allowed the URGENT Data Centre to build a central database and publish it upon the web. During the development work, it was found necessary to extend the NGDF standard as it could not adequately describe time variant or 3-D atmospheric datasets. The four applications met their design objectives. However, a number of ergonomic issues will need to be addressed if the system is to meet the needs of the much larger up coming programmes. The main challenges will be moving from the NGDF standard to the ISO standard, hence bringing the work into line with the recommendations of the INSPIRE Project, and merging the metadatabase with the scientific database, which enable metadata maintenance to be semi-automated. 相似文献
