Surface water and sediments from the St Lawrence River system (Québec region) were analysed for genotoxicity using the SOS Chromotest, as well as for their chemical concentrations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heavy metals. Additionally, chlorobenzenes, polychlorinated biphenyls, organochlorinated pesticides, ammonia and nitrite concentrations in sediments were determined. Water and sediments sampled from twenty-five sites were initially partitioned into their aqueous and particulate phases by tangential flow filtration and centrifugation, respectively. Organic contaminants were extracted from the fractions with dichloromethane. For surface water, fifteen extracts of filtered water and seven of particulates, and for sediments one extract of pore water and three of particulates proved to be weakly genotoxic. All but one of the genotoxic responses observed in the surface water were obtained from samples taken from the highly industrial portion of the St Lawrence River system, with the strongest responses observed in Lake St Louis. Surface water genotoxicants partitioning favours the particulate fraction. Bottom particulates genotoxicity was 1000-fold weaker than suspended particulates, on a per unit weight basis. Additionally, whole sediments were extracted with a 10% dimethylsulfoxide-saline solution. The observed distributions of genotoxicity values did not correlate with observed concentrations of demonstrated SOS inducers, mutagens and/or carcinogens, nor with the presence of other toxic chemicals.  相似文献

This does not affect the main findings of the paper.] Reactivity to smoking-related cues may play a role in the maintenance of smoking behavior and may change depending on smoking status. Whether smoking cue-related functional MRI (fMRI) reactivity differs between active smoking and extended smoking abstinence states currently is unknown. We used fMRI to measure brain reactivity in response to smoking-related versus neutral images in 13 tobacco-dependent subjects before a smoking cessation attempt and again during extended smoking abstinence (52 ± 11 days) aided by nicotine replacement therapy. Prequit smoking cue induced fMRI activity patterns paralleled those reported in prior smoking cue reactivity fMRI studies. Greater fMRI activity was detected during extended smoking abstinence than during the prequit assessment subcortically in the caudate nucleus and cortically in prefrontal (BA 6, 9, 44, 46), primary somatosensory (BA 1, 2, 3), temporal (BA 22, 41, 42), parietal (BA 7, 40) anterior cingulate (BA 24, 32), and posterior cingulate (BA 31) cortex. These data suggest that during extended smoking abstinence, fMRI reactivity to smoking versus neutral stimuli persists in brain areas involved in attention, somatosensory processing, motor planning, and conditioned cue responding. In some brain regions, fMRI smoking cue reactivity is increased during extended smoking abstinence in comparison to the prequit state, which may contribute to persisting relapse vulnerability. The partial hydrogenation of propyne was studied over copper-based catalysts derived from Cu–Al hydrotalcite and malachite precursors and compared with supported systems (Cu/Al2O3 and Cu/SiO2). The as-synthesized samples and the materials derived from calcination and reduction were characterized by XRF, XRD, TGA, TEM, N2 adsorption, H2-TPR, XPS, and N2O pulse chemisorption. Catalytic tests were carried out in a continuous flow-reactor at ambient pressure and 423–523 K using H2:C3H4 ratios of 1–12 and were complemented by operando DRIFTS experiments. The propyne conversion and propene selectivity correlated with the copper dispersion, which varied with the type of precursor or support and the calcination and reduction temperatures. The highest exposed copper surface was attained on hydrotalcite-derived catalysts, which displayed C3H6 selectivity up to 80% at full C3H4 conversion and stable performance in long-run tests at T ? 473 K. Both activated Cu–Al hydrotalcites (this work) and Ni–Al hydrotalcites [S. Abelló, D. Verboekend, B. Bridier, J. Pérez-Ramírez, J. Catal. 259 (2008) 85] exhibited a relatively high alkene selectivity under optimal operation conditions, but they present a markedly distinctive catalytic behavior with respect to temperature and hydrogen-to-alkyne ratio. The product distribution was assigned through Density Functional Theory (DFT) simulations to the different stability of subsurface phases (carbides, hydrides) and the energies and barriers for the competing reaction mechanisms. The behavior of Cu in partial alkyne hydrogenation resembles that of Au nanoparticles, while Ni is closer to Pd.  相似文献

Implicit–explicit (IMEX) time stepping methods can efficiently solve differential equations with both stiff and nonstiff components. IMEX Runge–Kutta methods and IMEX linear multistep methods have been studied in the literature. In this paper we study new implicit–explicit methods of general linear type. We develop an order conditions theory for high stage order partitioned general linear methods (GLMs) that share the same abscissae, and show that no additional coupling order conditions are needed. Consequently, GLMs offer an excellent framework for the construction of multi-method integration algorithms. Next, we propose a family of IMEX schemes based on diagonally-implicit multi-stage integration methods and construct practical schemes of order up to three. Numerical results confirm the theoretical findings.  相似文献

Laboratory incubations were conducted to determine the ammonia (NH3) loss from urea as affected by the addition of coarse and ground (fine) pyrites at 1:1, 1:2 and 1:5 urea: pyrite (w/w) ratios and methods of application (surfaceapplication, incorporation and placement). Coarse pyrites (>-2mm) were not effective in reducing NH3 loss from urea when surface applied even at the highest ratio of pyrite (15.9% vs 18.7% without pyrite). Ground pyrites (0.1–0.25 mm), in 1:1 ratio, had about 5% less NH3 loss than the urea alone treatment. Higher ratios of pyrites reduced NH3 loss much more. Ammonia losses were the most with surface-applied urea (18.9%) and the least (13.5%) when placed (2.5 cm) below the soil surface. Addition of ground pyrite to surface-applied urea (1:1 ratio) decreased the loss to 13.2%. Urea+pyrite placed below the soil surface had the least loss (9.8%). Results indicate that combined application of urea and fine pyrite could reduce NH3 loss.  相似文献

A series of lignans fromBupleurum salicifolium Soland (Umbelliferae) were tested for nematostatic activity on the cysts and freed secondstage juveniles of the potato cyst nematodesGlobodera rostochiensis andG. pallida. None of the six lignans tested—bursehernin, matairesinol, syringaresinol, the novel product buplerol, guayarol, and a derivative, nortrachelogenin triacetate—showed nematicidal activity in an in vitro analysis with second-stage juveniles, but significant differences were noted when the lignans were assayed for nematostatic activity as cyst hatching inhibitors. Bursehernin and matairesinol showed the greatest activity, at concentrations of 50 ppm. This is the first known instance of a natural product inhibiting the hatch of the nematodeG. pallida. The HID (hatching inhibiting dose) of bursehernin was estimated, and some conclusions were drawn about the structure-activity relationships of the lignans under study.  相似文献

This paper considers dam-break flow occurring in a horizontal smooth channel. Experiments were carried out with highly viscous Newtonian fluids, e.g., glucose syrup–water solutions. The frontal shape of dam-break flow and its evolution, as well as the free-surface profile, were measured using video-photographic and ultrasonic equipment, respectively. New features of viscous dam-break flow are pointed out. Notably indicated are flow regimes and the effect of reservoir length as well as the effect of fluid viscosity on flow development. Equations describing dam-break flow are derived in nondimensional form, then compared with the results from experiments.  相似文献
