The objective of this study was to determine the effect of temperature on whole milk density measured at four different temperatures: 5, 10, 15, and 20 °C. A total of ninety-three individual milk samples were collected from morning milking of thirty-two Holstein Friesian dairy cows, of national average genetic merit, once every two weeks over a period of 4 weeks and were assessed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for milk composition analysis. Density of the milk was evaluated using two different analytical methods: a portable density meter DMA35 and a standard desktop model DMA4500M (Anton Paar GmbH, UK). Milk density was analysed with a linear mixed model with the fixed effects of sampling period, temperature and analysis method; triple interaction of sampling period x analysis method x temperature; and the random effect of cow to account for repeated measures. The effect of temperature on milk density (ρ) was also evaluated including temperature (t) as covariate with linear and quadratic effects within each analytic method. The regression equation describing the curvature and density–temperature relationship for the DMA35 instrument was ρ = 1.0338−0.00017T−0.0000122T2 (R2 = 0.64), while it was ρ = 1.0334 + 0.000057T−0.00001T2 (R2 = 0.61) for DMA4500 instrument. The mean density determined with DMA4500 at 5 °C was 1.0334 g cm−3, with corresponding figures of 1.0330, 1.0320 and 1.0305 g cm−3 at 10, 15 and 20 °C, respectively. The milk density values obtained in this study at specific temperatures will help to address any bias in weight–volume calculations and thus may also improve the financial and operational control for the dairy processors in Ireland and internationally.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The effects of beta 2 adrenergic agonists on chemoreceptors remain controversial. This study was designed to examine whether fenoterol, a beta 2 adrenergic agonist, increases the ventilatory responses to hypercapnia (HCVR) and hypoxia (HVR) in normal subjects. METHODS: HCVR was tested with a rebreathing method and HVR was examined with a progressive isocapnic hypoxic method in 11 normal subjects. Both HCVR and HVR were assessed by the slope of occlusion pressure (P0.1) or ventilation (VE) plotted against end tidal carbon dioxide pressure and arterial oxygen saturation, respectively. Respiratory muscle strength, spirometric values and lung volume were measured. After a single oral administration of 5 mg fenoterol or placebo HCVR and HVR were evaluated. RESULTS: Fenoterol treatment did not change the specific airway conductance or forced expiratory volume in one second. Respiratory muscle strength did not change. Fenoterol increased the slope of the HCVR of both P0.1 (from 0.251 (0.116) to 0.386 (0.206) kPa/kPa, average increase 71%) and VE (from 10.7 (3.4) to 15.1 (4.2) l/min/kPa, average increase 52%), and shifted the response curves to higher values. For the HVR fenoterol increased the slopes of both P0.1 and VE (from -4.06 (2.00) x 10(-3) to -7.99 (4.29) x 10(-3) kPa/%, an average increase of 83%, and from -0.221 (0.070) to -0.313 (0.112) l/min/%, a 44.5% increase, respectively), and shifted the response curves to higher values. CONCLUSION: Acute administration of fenoterol increases the ventilatory responses to both hypercapnia and hypoxia in normal subjects.  相似文献

Substitutions (0–16 at%) of titanium for iron in Fe3Al-based alloys rapidly solidified by chill-block melt-spinning stabilize the D03 and B2 ordered structures. Rapid solidification results in total suppression of D03 order in binary alloys, whereas alloys containing titanium have D03 structure. D03 and B2 antiphase domain size, lattice parameter and hardness increase with increasing titanium content of the alloy. The deformation mode changes from single (unit) bcc dislocation in binary alloys to two-fold superdislocation configuration in D03Fe3Al-Ti alloys. Mechanical antiphase boundaries are generated by the movement of these imperfect configurations. All the alloys exhibited cleavage tensile failure. The mechanical properties are correlated with the observed structural changes.  相似文献

The large-deformation three-dimensional glass-rubber constitutive model for isotropic, amorphous, linear polymers near the glass transition, previously proposed, has been extended to include a spectrum of network relaxations. In addition, an experimental programme of uniaxial tension and compression tests was carried out on high molecular weight cast sheets of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), with varying strain-rate and temperature across the range from 114 to 190 °C, encompassing the thermoforming range of practical importance. The extended model was found to fit successfully the data for PMMA, provided a doublet network relaxation spectrum was employed. The original model, with only a single network relaxation, was found to be grossly inadequate when there was significant network relaxation by entanglement slippage. Parameters of the model for PMMA, obtained by fitting to the new data, were compared with values obtained by other routes.  相似文献

This paper addresses approaches to enhancement of the resolution of one or more clusters of closely spaced emitters. The TLS-ESPRIT algorithm is considered, as applied in beamspace and in element space, in conjunction with resolution enhancement. Beamspace (BS)-ESPRIT employs a matrix beamformer as a preprocessor to map the sensor space into a lower dimensional beamspace. Resolution enhanced (RE)ESPRIT employs a matrix beamformer as a left weighting of the signal subspace eigenvector matrix for enhancing the resolution of ESPRIT. This paper specifically discusses several types of these beamformer matrices, which differ in the way that they treat source clusters other than of interest. Our objective is to clearly define approaches and identify their relative merits, through discussion and illustrative simulation, so as to provide an understanding of how to proceed in designing an ESPRIT algorithm  相似文献

So called lethal midline granuloma is of great clinical and theoretical interest. Recent evidence has shown that most lethal midline granulomas are associated with a T-cell phenotype and they are therefore referred to as nasal T-cell lymphomas (NTCL). Immunohistochemical studies, however, have shown peculiar phenotypic features such as expression of natural killer (NK)-cell-related markers and extensive T-cell antigen loss including absence of expression of alpha beta T-cell receptor (TCR). In this study, we reported genotypic and immunohistochemical features in two cases of lethal midline granuloma. The histopathological diagnosis of the biopsy specimens was polymorphic reticulosis/midline malignant reticulosis. Both cases displayed a CD2+, CD3-, CD3 epsilon+, CD4-, CD8-, CD16-, CD56+ phenotype, suggesting that these tumors may be peripheral T-cell lymphomas with extensive loss of T-cell antigens and expression of NK cell antigen (CD56), or, alternatively, NK cell neoplasias. No TCR beta gene rearrangement was detected in these cases. Monoclonal Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) genome was detected in each specimen by Southern blot hybridization. The tumor cells in one of the two cases expressed latent membrane protein (LMP). These findings support the concept that lethal midline granuloma constitutes a distinct group of lymphomas that, in addition to their peculiar clinical features, exhibits the phenotype of extensive loss of T-cell antigens and expression of the NK cell antigen, as well as harbors the EBV. In view of the LMP-transforming potential, these data suggest that EBV may play a role in the pathogenesis of lethal midline granuloma.  相似文献

1. We have studied the effects of muscarinic cholinoceptor agonists and subtype-preferring antagonists on the isometric contraction of smooth muscle strips from dog prostate. 2. Acetylcholine and carbachol induced contraction of prostate strips from the peripheral zone, ('the capsule'). Bethanechol contracted the tissue but not at lower doses. McN-A-343 and oxotremorine-M showed the same effects. 3. Blocking alpha- and beta-adrenoceptors with phentolamine and propranolol, respectively, did not modify carbachol-induced contractions. 4. The nicotinic receptor blocker, hexamethonium (10(-6)-10(-4) M) did not affect the contractile response evoked by a single dose of carbachol (10(-5) M), whilst the muscarinic receptor antagonist, atropine (10(-11)-10(-9) M), inhibited it in a competitive manner. 5. The muscarinic M1 (pirenzepine), M2 [AF-DX 116, himbacine (M2/M4) and methoctramine], M3 (HHSID and f-F-HHSID), and putative M4 (tropicamide) antagonists reduced significantly the carbachol-induced contractions. The pIC50 values were: atropine (10.01) > himbacine (8.3) > methoctramine (7.85) > AF-DX 116 (7.60) > HHSID (7.21) > p-F-HHSID (7.10) > pirenzepine (7.30) > tropicamide (7.00). 6. The antagonist profile indicates that an predominant M2 receptor subtype could mediate the muscarinic contraction in the canine prostate.  相似文献

cDNAs and an intronless single-copy nuclear gene (TPI1) encoding triosephosphate isomerase have been cloned and sequenced from the marine red alga Gracilaria verrucosa. The predicted amino-acid sequence of TPI1 is readily alignable with those of other known TPIs; 26 of 27 active-site residues and 19 of 26 intersubunit-contact residues are identical between TPIs of G. verrucosa and/or animals and green plants. A partial cDNA sequence of a second TPI gene (TPI2), presumably encoding plastid-localized TPI, was recovered by PCR and demonstrated by phylogenetic analysis to be red algal; no TP12 cDNA or genomic clones could be recovered. Genomic Southern analysis demonstrated that at least two TPI-like genes are present in the nuclear DNA of G. verrucosa.  相似文献

Utilizing CO2 in an electro-chemical process and synthesizing value-added chemicals are amongst the few viable and scalable pathways in carbon capture and utilization technologies.CO2 electro-reduction is also counted as one of the main options entailing less fossil fuel consumption and as a future electrical energy storage strategy.The current study aims at developing a new electrochemical platform to produce low-carbon e-biofuel through multifunctional electrosynthesis and integrated co-valorisation of biomass feedstocks with captured CO2.In this approach,CO2 is reduced at the cathode to produce drop-in fuels(e.g.,methanol)while value-added chemicals(e.g.,selective oxidation of alcohols,aldehydes,carboxylic acids and amines/amides)are produced at the anode.In this work,a numerical model of a continuous-flow design considering various anodic and cathodic reactions was built to determine the most techno-economically feasible configurations from the aspects of energy efficiency,environment impact and economical values.The reactor design was then optimized via parametric analysis.  相似文献
