Storing energy in the form of hydrogen is a promising green alternative. Thus, there is a high interest to analyze the status quo of the different storage options. This paper focuses on the large-scale compressed hydrogen storage options with respect to three categories: storage vessels, geological storage, and other underground storage alternatives. In this study, we investigated a wide variety of compressed hydrogen storage technologies, discussing in fair detail their theory of operation, potential, and challenges. The analysis confirms that a techno-economic chain analysis is required to evaluate the viability of one storage option over another for a case by case. Some of the discussed technologies are immature; however, this does not rule out these technologies; rather, it portrays the research opportunities in the field and the foreseen potential of these technologies. Furthermore, we see that hydrogen would have a significant role in balancing intermittent renewable electricity production.  相似文献

The wetting properties of paper components and sizing agents were investigated by measuring contact angles of water drops applied by the drop test method on the sample surfaces, and by observing microscopic drops in the environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM). The results are comparable, although measurements from the ESEM observations are approximate. The ESEM observations give insight into the wetting at the microscopic level, the formation of drops, and the spreading and absorption of water drops. Absorbent samples engulf all condensing water, resulting in a water- saturated swollen structure with no visible drop formation. On the nonabsorbent samples, water drops form and spread on the sample surfaces.  相似文献

PtRu catalysts with similar particle size and composition were deposited on three different carbon supports: Vulcan, graphitized carbon nanofibers (GNF) and few-walled carbon nanotubes (FWCNT) and their performance for methanol oxidation was studied in an electrochemical cell and in a single cell DMFC. The electrochemical results indicate that with PtRu/GNF and PtRu/FWCNT higher current densities are obtained and oxidation intermediates deactivate the surface less compared to the same catalyst on Vulcan support. Conversely, PtRu/Vulcan provided the highest open circuit voltage OCV and current densities in DMFC experiments due to a well-optimized electrode layer structure. Because stability is a key requirement for fuel cell commercialization, 6-day-long fuel cell stability tests were carried out, showing that PtRu/Vulcan degraded significantly. This was due to the collapse of the secondary structure of the electrode layer revealed by post characterization of the membrane electrode assembly (MEA) with SEM and TEM. PtRu/GNF exhibited slightly poorer initial performance but better stability because the structure of the anode layer was maintained. PtRu/FWCNT showed the worst initial performance and long-term stability. The good stability of non-optimized PtRu/GNF MEAs shows the potential of these novel nanocarbon supported catalysts as stable fuel cell components after proper MEA optimization.  相似文献

Dark fermentative hydrogen production by a hot spring culture was studied from different sugars in batch assays and from xylose in continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) with on-line pH control. Batch assays yielded hydrogen in following order: xylose > arabinose > ribose > glucose. The highest hydrogen yield in batch assays was 0.71 mol H2/mol xylose. In CSTR the highest H2 yield and production rate at 45 °C were 1.97 mol H2/mol xylose and 7.3 mmol H2/h/L, respectively, and at 37 °C, 1.18 mol H2/mol xylose and 1.7 mmol H2/h/L, respectively. At 45 °C, microbial community consisted of only two bacterial strains affiliated to Clostridium acetobutulyticum and Citrobacter freundii, whereas at 37 °C six Clostridial species were detected. In summary hydrogen yield by hot spring culture was higher with pentoses than hexoses. The highest H2 production rate and yield and thus, the most efficient hydrogen producing bacteria were obtained at suboptimal temperature of 45 °C for both mesophiles and thermophiles.  相似文献

This study was set up to establish the prevalence of Listeria monocytogenes in the tonsils of sows and fattening pigs from five Finnish slaughterhouses and to evaluate the genetic similarity of L. monocytogenes strains isolated from the tonsils. A total of 271 pig tonsils (132 tonsils from fattening pigs and 139 from sows) from five different slaughterhouses in various parts of Finland were studied from June 1999 to March 2000. Overall, 14 and 4% of pig tonsils harbored L. monocytogenes and Listeria innocua, respectively. The prevalence of L. monocytogenes in tonsils of fattening pigs (22%) was significantly higher than in sows (6%). The isolates (n = 38) recovered from tonsils showed a wide genetic diversity by means of 24 different pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) types presented by the strains. Moreover, in numerical analyses of restriction patterns, no association was found between the clustering of strains and the slaughterhouses, and strains showing a similar PFGE type were recovered from pigs of different slaughterhouses. The high prevalence of L. monocytogenes showing various PFGE types in the tonsils of pigs could indicate a potential source of contamination of pluck sets, carcasses, and the slaughterhouse environment and of subsequent processing steps.  相似文献

A total of 257 raw fish samples at two different sites were examined for the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The prevalence of L. monocytogenes was 4%. From 11 positive samples, nine different L. monocytogenes pulsed-field gel electrophoresis genotypes were recovered. From nine pulsotypes recovered from raw fish and 32 pulsotypes shown by 101 fish product isolates, two raw fish and fish product pulsotypes were indistinguishable from each other. Although the prevalence of L. monocytogenes in raw fish is low, the range of L. monocytogenes strains entering the processing plant in large amounts of raw material is wide. This indicates that the raw material is an important initial contamination source of L. monocytogenes in fish processing plants. This postulation is supported by the identical pulsotypes recovered from both raw and processed fish. Some L. monocytogenes strains entering a plant may thus contaminate and persist in the processing environment, causing recurrent contamination of the final products via processing machines.  相似文献

Synthetic fuels are needed to replace their fossil counterparts for clean transport. Presently, their production is still inefficient and costly. To enhance the process of methanol production from CO2 and H2 and reduce its cost, a particle-resolved numerical simulation tool is presented. A global surface reaction model based on the Langmuir-Hinshelwood-Hougen-Watson kinetics is utilized. The approach is first validated against standard benchmark problems for non-reacting and reacting cases. Next, the method is applied to study the performance of methanol production in a 2D fixed-bed reactor under a range of parameters. It is found that methanol yield enhances with pressure, catalyst loading, reactant ratio, and packing density. The yield diminishes with temperature at adiabatic conditions, while it shows non-monotonic change for the studied isothermal cases. Overall, the staggered and the random catalyst configurations are found to outperform the in-line system.  相似文献
