Modification of the eutectic Si in Al-Si foundry alloys by adding strontium or sodium is, unfortunately, accompanied by an
increase of porosity in the casting. In an attempt to understand the nature of this problem, this study used a sessile-drop
method to investigate the effect of Sr and Na on surface tension and volumetric shrinkage, two probable causes of porosity
occur-rence. The addition of 0.01 wt pct Sr and 0.005 wt pct Na to A356 alloy decreases the surface tension of the liquid
by about 19 and 10 pct, respectively, and may increase the volume shrink-age by about 12 pct. These changes to surface tension
and volumetric shrinkage promote the early formation of the pores during solidification and give the availability of a longer
period of growth prior to complete solidification, resulting in a larger pore size. The effect of surface tension on the pores
is more significant than volumetric shrinkage. Although the predicted pore diameter increases with lower surface tension or
higher volumetric shrinkage, these two effects alone do not seem able to completely account for the observed increase in porosity

In this article, a generalized sensorless method for SRM drives has been explained. By continuous monitoring of the back-EMF, the best version of the sensorless technique is selected and engaged. The robust performance obtained from this technique makes it as attractive candidate for industrial as well as domestic applications. Furthermore, a four-quadrant strategy under sensorless control has been designed and implemented. The proposed method demonstrates simplicity in computation while providing high-precision position information with no extra hardware or memory. The proposed algorithms have been implemented on an experimental SRM test setup. Our findings show that four-quadrant sensorless control of the SRM drive is a feasible technique and can be considered as a technology ready for application. This technique is especially helpful where the characteristics of the application calls for operating in two/four-quadrants or when a closed-loop speed/position control with sensorless strategy is demanded. 相似文献

In this research, novel composite scaffolds consisting of silk fibroin and forsterite powder were prepared by a freeze-drying method. In addition, the effects of forsterite powder contents on the structure of the scaffolds were investigated to provide an appropriate composite for bone tissue engineering applications. The morphology studies using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques showed that the forsterite ceramic was well distributed throughout the structures of SF/forsterite scaffolds. This paper proposes a vibration-based fault-diagnosis method for mechanical parts. This method, after algorithm development, only requires a single inexpensive test to inspect the part which could take as short as half a second. The algorithm is developed in three major stages, (i) exciting specimens without or with known faults using a controlled force and recording acceleration of a single point for a short time (ii) finding a signature for each faulty specimen, using Fourier transform and statistical analysis. (iii) Developing a multi-layer perceptron, as a mathematical model, using the results of stage (ii). The elements of a part signature are the inputs to the model. The location (and possibly size and shape factor) of the fault is model output. Stage (i) can be performed experimentally or alternatively with a validated FEM, one experiment or simulation per specimen. The proposed technique was examined to locate (isolate) a fault on an automobile cylinder head. The presented accuracy is considerable, and the data collected at fairly low frequency range (below 1200 Hz) were found to be sufficient for this technique. In the case study of this paper, possible fault locations are on a line; as a result, fault location has one dimension. It is shown that the technique can be extended to higher dimensions. 相似文献

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) was applied three-dimensionally to simulate the drying behavior of paddy in a deep-bed dryer. The commercial CFD software Fluent 6.3.26 was used. The deep-bed paddy drying process and performance were studied by incorporating user-defined function (UDF) in Fluent written in C language. The predicted drying parameters were compared with experimental data of deep-bed drying of paddy. The values of mean relative deviation (MRD), standard error of prediction (SEP), and maximum error of prediction (MEP) for prediction of grain moisture content, air temperature, and absolute humidity were less than 6, 10, and 9%; 0.33% (d.b), 1.24°C, and 0.06% (kg/kg of dry air); and 2.25% (d.b), 6.8°C, and 0.37% (kg/kg of dry air), respectively, which reflect reasonable accuracy. Moreover, the energetic and exergetic performance of deep-bed paddy drying were simulated and analyzed. The effects of inlet air temperature and mass flow rate on the performance parameters were investigated. It was shown that the application of higher levels of inlet air temperature and lower mass flow rates yielded higher exergy efficiencies of deep-bed paddy drying. 相似文献

We present a high-power InAlAs/InGaAs/InP heterostructure barrier varactor (HBV) frequency tripler. The HBV device topology was designed for efficient thermal dissipation and high efficiency. To verify simulations, the device was flip-chip soldered onto embedding microstrip circuitry on an aluminum nitride substrate. This hybrid circuit was then mounted in a waveguide block without any movable tuners. From the resulting RF measurements, the maximum output power was 195 mW at 113 GHz, with a conversion efficiency of 15%. The measured 3-dB bandwidth was 1.5% 相似文献

Abstract Interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) are commonly used in electric and hybrid electric vehicles. Nissan Leaf electric vehicle (EV) uses skewed-rotor IPMSM as a traction motor. This motor is considered as a benchmark in this work. Although, skewing improves the torque quality of the motor by reducing the torque ripple, it reduces the average torque and increases the motor manufacturing complexity and cost. This article proposes improvements to the benchmark motor torque quality without skewing. The proposed motor uses the same stator winding and rotor magnet topologies of the benchmark motor with the same geometric constraints and magnet volume. Modifications are applied to the placement of the magnets in the rotor and the shape of the flux barriers to achieve the performance requirements. The design procedure of the proposed unskewed design is illustrated. Moreover, the electromagnetic performance of the proposed design is investigated. The design shows competitive performance in terms of the average torque, torque ripple, cogging torque, and efficiency compared to the benchmark motor. The mechanical integrity of the design is also verified. The proposed design is found to be a suitable alternative to the benchmark traction motor with a reduced rotor weight and without skewing. 相似文献

Automotive manufacturers have been taking advantage of simulation tools for modeling and analyzing various types of vehicles, such as conventional, electric, and hybrid electric vehicles. These simulation tools are of great assistance to engineers and researchers to reduce product-development cycle time, improve the quality of the design, and simplify the analysis without costly and time-consuming experiments. In this paper, a modeling tool that has been developed to study automotive systems using the power electronics simulator (PSIM) software is presented. PSIM was originally made for simulating power electronic converters and motor drives. This user-friendly simulation package is able to simulate electric/electronic circuits; however, it has no capability for simulating the entire system of an automobile. This paper discusses the PSIM validity as an automotive simulation tool by creating module boxes for not only the electrical systems, but also the mechanical, energy-storage, and thermal systems of the vehicles. These modules include internal combustion engines, fuel converters, transmissions, torque couplers, and batteries. Once these modules are made and stored in the library, the user can make the car model either a conventional, an electric, or a hybrid vehicle at will, just by dragging and dropping onto a schematic blank page. 相似文献
