Background

Exacerbated oxidative stress is thought to be a mediator of arterial hypertension. It has been postulated that creatine (Cr) could act as an antioxidant agent preventing increased oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of nine weeks of Cr or placebo supplementation on oxidative stress and cardiovascular parameters in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR).

Findings

Lipid hydroperoxidation, one important oxidative stress marker, remained unchanged in the coronary artery (Cr: 12.6 ± 1.5 vs. Pl: 12.2 ± 1.7 nmol·mg-1; p = 0.87), heart (Cr: 11.5 ± 1.8 vs. Pl: 14.6 ± 1.1 nmol·mg-1; p = 0.15), plasma (Cr: 67.7 ± 9.1 vs. Pl: 56.0 ± 3.2 nmol·mg-1; p = 0.19), plantaris (Cr: 10.0 ± 0.8 vs. Pl: 9.0 ± 0.8 nmol·mg-1; p = 0.40), and EDL muscle (Cr: 14.9 ± 1.4 vs. Pl: 17.2 ± 1.5 nmol·mg-1; p = 0.30). Additionally, Cr supplementation affected neither arterial blood pressure nor heart structure in SHR (p > 0.05).

Conclusions

Using a well-known experimental model of systemic arterial hypertension, this study did not confirm the possible therapeutic effects of Cr supplementation on oxidative stress and cardiovascular dysfunction associated with arterial hypertension.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Liquid hydrocarbon oil and water have been produced from the liquefaction of cellulosic matter present in municipal solid wastes (MSW). Gases and residual char have also been produced as by-products resulting from the pyrolysis reaction of cellulose. Quantities of water and pyrolytic char were estimated at different conditions of the process (temperature pressure of hydrogen, carrier oil medium and concentration of boric acid). From the results obtained, it was suggested that the formation of water seems to be sensitive to the operational conditions which enhance a water-gas shift reaction (in which water molecules are consumed to produce carbon dioxide and hydrogen). Decreasing of the undesired chary by-product could be achieved by increasing the concentration of boric acid that catalyzes the liquefaction reaction. Two petroleum distillates, namely gas oil and residual fuel oil, were used as carrier media of a solid refuse. It was found that fuel oil is more efficient as a buffering medium that prevents cellulose macromolecules from a rapid and complete charing during the liquefaction process. The pyrolytic char was characterized and evaluated by means of different analytical procedures and solvent extraction using petroleum ether 40–60°C and methanol. Calorific value of the pyrolytic char was found to be 4.6 Kcal g?1 which is quite close to that of a brown coal. Dropping point test of the extracted material by petroleum ether indicated that the extract can be utilized for producing lubricating greases via saponificattion with a salt of sodium or calcium.  相似文献

Cumulant-based LP method for two-dimensional spectral estimation   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
A cumulant-based linear prediction (CBLP) method for two-dimensional (2-D) spectral estimation is presented. The main idea of the method is to compute the coefficients of two different single-quadrant prediction filters by applying the LP theory to a selected 2-D fourth-order mixed cumulant slice of the noisy signal. These coefficients are employed in formulating two different autoregressive spectral models. Both spectral models are combined to obtain the desired spectral estimate. In this paper we report the results of both an experimental and theoretical study of the halfwidths of two transitions of water vapor. Measurements on the lines of the H216O and H218O isotopomers located at 325.1 and 203.4 GHz, respectively, were carried out in the temperature range 300-393 K, with N2 and O2 as perturbing gases. The foreign-broadening coefficients and their temperature-dependence parameters were determined assuming a Voigt profile and the usual temperature dependence for the halfwidth. The retrieved values are compared to values calculated using the complex semiclassical formalism of Robert and Bonamy. The assumed intermolecular potential is a combination of electrostatic and atom-atom components. This last contribution is defined as the sum of pairwise Lennard-Jones 6-12 interactions between the atoms of H2O and the atoms of the perturbing molecules expanded to eighth order. Also calculated are the pressure-induced shifts of the spectral lines for temperatures from 200 to 400 K. Calculated and experimental results are in good agreement, within +/-3.2%, except for the N2-broadening temperature coefficients, for which there are discrepancies as high as 23%. Air-broadening parameters are determined following the classical relation: gamma (air) = 0.79gamma (N2) + 0.21gamma (O2). Copyright 1999 Academic Press.  相似文献

It is known that sinusoids generate lines in their spectra, but false lines may appear when the sinusoids are corrupted by coloured additive noise. In the paper, a higher-order statistics-based IIR filtering scheme is suggested to suppress additive coloured noise, thus enhancing the desired spectral peaks due to the sinusoids. The filter used is an unknown pole-zero constrained IIR notch filter. The filter coefficients are estimated by applying the linear prediction (LP) method to a block of a fourth-order mixed cumulant slice (FOMCS) of the input noisy signal. Therefore, the presented scheme automatically handles Gaussian noise (white or coloured). In the non-Gaussian noise case, a novel analysis is presented to show that, associated with the FOMCS, there is a new signal-to-noise ratio called the `signal-to-noise kurtosis ratio' (SNKR). This SNKR is a multiple of the conventional SNR if the additive noise is coloured non-Gaussian. Thus, the presented scheme is capable of handling additive coloured noise (Gaussian or non-Gaussian).
