Infrared (IR) spectroscopy has been used to identify and quantify the phosphite antioxidant, tris(2,4-di-tert.butylphenyl) phosphite, and its corresponding phosphate in high density polyethylene (HDPE) food trays, both in the original, commercial trays and also as a function of gamma-irradiation and post-irradiation, storage conditions. This direct method of inhibitor analysis complements time-consuming (some times non-quantitative) extraction methods, which for organo-phosphites are complicated by their facile conversion to phosphates by peroxidic impurities in the solvent. Because of the complete destruction of phosphite to give mainly phosphate at quite low gamma-irradiation doses (approximately 5 kGy) and phosphate formation during melt processing and radiation sterilization of these HDPE trays must take into account products from the irradiation of phosphate. Any residual phosphite is lost progressively in post-irradiation reactions, which are complex, producing a less than-quantitative yield of phosphate.  相似文献

This study aims to determine whether indirect touch device can be used to interact with graphical objects displayed on another screen in an air traffic control (ATC) context. The introduction of such a device likely requires an adaptation of the sensory-motor system. The operator has to simultaneously perform movements on the horizontal plane while assessing them on the vertical plane. Thirty-six right-handed participants performed movement training with either constant or variable practice and with or without visual feedback of the displacement of their actions. Participants then performed a test phase without visual feedback. Performance improved in both practice conditions, but accuracy was higher with visual feedback. During the test phase, movement time was longer for those who had practiced with feedback, suggesting an element of dependency. However, this ‘cost’ of feedback did not extend to movement accuracy. Finally, participants who had received variable training performed better in the test phase, but accuracy was still unsatisfactory. We conclude that continuous visual feedback on the stylus position is necessary if tablets are to be introduced in ATC.  相似文献

Six commercial disinfectants were tested for their efficacy in inactivating hepatitis A virus in solution or attached to agri-food surfaces. Disinfectant I contains 10% quaternary ammonium plus 5% glutaraldehyde; disinfectant II contains 12% sodium hypochlorite; disinfectant III contains 2.9% dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid plus 16% phosphoric acid; disinfectant IV contains 10% quaternary ammonium; disinfectant V contains 2% iodide; and disinfectant VI contains 2% stabilized chlorine dioxide. Among these, disinfectants I and II were shown to be the most effective in inactivating hepatitis A virus in solution. The efficacy of these disinfectants was further tested against hepatitis A virus attached to common agri-food surfaces, including polyvinyl chlorine, high-density polyethylene, aluminum, stainless steel, and copper. Disinfectant II was shown to be the most effective, with a maximum inactivation level of about 3 log10. The inactivation efficacy was shown to be affected by the concentration of the active ingredient, the contact time between the disinfectant and the contaminated surfaces, and the incubation temperature. In general, hepatitis A virus was shown to be highly resistant to most disinfectants tested, and high concentrations of active ingredient were needed to achieve acceptable inactivation levels.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: Gamma-irradiation and various edible coatings were tested on fresh strawberries ( Fragaria spp. ) for keeping fruit quality and extending shelf life. Four coatings based on milk protein were evaluated. In 1 experiment, coating formulation based on caseinate and/or strawberries were irradiated using a 60Co source. Both gamma-irradiation treatment and edible coating process significantly delayed (p ≤ 0.05) molds growth. Edible coating based on irradiated caseinate was more effective than that of unirradiated caseinate. In a 2nd experiment, 3 irradiated coatings based on calcium caseinate and whey proteins were evaluated. The coating formulation based on 1:1 caseinate-whey was found to be more effective than those based on calcium caseinate. Addition of calcium chloride or a mixture of pectin and agar increased the effectiveness of the coating by delaying molds' apparition.  相似文献

Inactivation of foodborne pathogens in milk using dynamic high pressure   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Improving the microbiological safety of perishable foods is currently a major preoccupation in the food industry. The aim of this study was to investigate the inactivation of three major food pathogens (Listeria monocytogenes [LSD 105-1], Escherichia coli O157:H7 [ATCC 35150], and Salmonella enterica serotype Enteritidis ATCC [13047]) by dynamic high pressure (DHP) in order to evaluate its potential as a new alternative for the cold pasteurization of milk. The effectiveness of DHP treatment against L. monocYtogenes, E. coli O157:H7, and Salmonella Enteritidis was first evaluated in 0.01 M phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) at pH 7.2 as a function of applied pressure (100, 200, and 300 MPa) and of the number of passes (1, 3, and 5) at 25 degrees C. A single pass at 100 MPa produced no significant inactivation of the three pathogens, while increasing the pressure up to 300 MPa or the number of passes to five increased inactivation. From an initial count of 8.3 log CFU/ml, complete inactivation of viable L. monocytogenes was achieved after three successive passes at 300 MPa, while 200-MPa treatments with three and five passes completely eliminated viable Salmonella Enteritidis and E. coli O157:H7, respectively. The effectiveness of DHP for the inactivation of these pathogens was compared to that of hydrostatic high pressure (HHP) using the same pressure (200 MPa, single pass at 25 degrees C). In general, two additional log reductions in viable count were obtained with DHP DHP was less effective against L. monocytogenes and E. coli O157:H7 in raw milk than in PBS. After five passes at 200 MPa, an 8.3-log reduction was obtained for E. coli O157:H7, while a reduction of about 5.8 log CFU/ml was obtained for L. monocytogenes exposed to 300 MPa for five passes. Exposing milk or buffer samples to mild heating (45 to 60 degrees C) prior to dynamic pressurization enhanced the lethal effect of DHP The inactivation of pathogens also depended on the initial bacterial concentration. The highest reduction was obtained when the bacterial load did not exceed 10(5) CFU/ml. In conclusion, DHP was shown to be very effective for the destruction of the tested pathogens. It offers a promising alternative for the cold pasteurization of milk and possibly other liquid foods.  相似文献

This study is concerned with the extraction of directional ocean wave spectra from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image spectra. The statistical estimation problem underlying the wave-SAR inverse problem is examined in detail in order to properly quantify the wave information content of SAR. As a concrete focus, a data set is considered comprising six RADARSAT SAR images co-located with a directional wave buoy off the east coast of Canada. These SAR data are transformed into inter-look image cross-spectra based on two looks at the same ocean scene separated by 0.4 s. The general problem of wave extraction from SAR is cast in terms of a statistical estimation problem that includes the observed SAR spectra, the wave-SAR transform, and prior spectral wave information. The central role of the weighting functions (inverse of the error covariances) is demonstrated, as well as the consequence of approximate (based on the quasilinear wave-SAR transform) versus exact linearizations on the convergence properties of the algorithm. Error estimates are derived and discussed. This statistical framework is applied to the extraction of spectral wave information from observed RADARSAT SAR image cross-spectra. A modified wave-SAR transform is used to account for case-specific geophysical and imaging effects. Analysis of the residual error of simulated and observed SAR spectra motivates a canonical form for the SAR observation error covariance. Wave estimates are then extracted from the SAR spectra, including wavenumber dependent error estimates and explicit identification of spectral null spaces where the SAR contains no wave information. Band-limited SAR wave information is also combined with prior (buoy) spectral wave estimates through parameterization of the wave spectral shape and use of regularization  相似文献

The effect of γ-irradiation on the physicochemical and microbiological properties of fresh pork was studied. Radiation treatments were carried out under air on fresh pork loins at doses of 2, 4 and 8 kGy and the loins were evaluated for deamidation, solubility, sulphydryl content and surface hydrophobicity. Deamidation was significantly (p0.05) affected by the treatment with 98% deamidation at a dose of 8 kGy. No significant changes (p > 0.05) were noted in sulphydryl content under the same conditions. The increase in deamidation resulted in a decrease in hydrophobicity and an increase in protein solubility. γ-irradiation also reduced the number of microorganisms in the meat. Mesophiles were more resistant to the irradiation treatment than psychrotrophs and Pseudomonas. All irradiated pork samples (1 or 3 kGy) had a bacterial count lower that 107 CFU/g after 15 days of storage. A minimal dose of 1 kGy was sufficient to increase the shelf life of fresh pork loins although variations in initial pork contamination was found to be the determining factor accounting for the effectiveness of the treatment.  相似文献

This study explored the possible links between family risk factors (i.e., parent gambling and parenting practices) and adolescent gambling. A community sample of 938 adolescents (496 females and 442 males) completed the South Oaks Gambling Screen Revised for Adolescents (SOGS-RA; K. C. Winters, R. Stinchfield, & J. Fulkerson, 1993b) along with a questionnaire assessing parenting practices. Both parents completed the SOGS (H. R. Lesieur & S. B. Blume, 1987). Results showed that adolescent gambling frequency was related to both parents' gambling frequency and problems. However, adolescent gambling problems were linked only to fathers' severity of gambling problems. Low levels of parental monitoring enhanced adolescents' risk of getting involved in gambling activities and developing related problems. A higher level of inadequate disciplinary practices was also related to greater gambling problems in youth. A series of acrylamide‐based water‐soluble (co)polymers was synthesized and they were investigated as flocculants of model kaolin suspensions and mature fine tailings of oil sands. The effects of molar mass, charge density, and polymer concentration on flocculation efficiency were studied by monitoring the initial settling rate during sedimentation. Hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) with high molar mass and intermediate acrylic acid contents (0.14–0.41 mol/mol (14–41 mol%)) performed better in flocculation tests on kaolin suspensions requiring lower dose for maximum initial settling rate than native polyacrylamide (PAM). Surface force measurements showed that at low polymer concentrations (1 ppm), the partially‐adsorbed polymer induced a bridging attraction between the mica surfaces. Increasing the polymer concentration to 10 and 50 ppm caused purely repulsive forces. The presence of anionic groups in HPAM led to stronger repulsion, which was also demonstrated by the higher viscosity and larger hydrodynamic radius of the charged polymer. The charge‐induced increase in the viscosity of polymer solutions was suppressed by the screening effect of salts in a buffer solution and reducing the viscosity is desirable in the injection of flocculants in the industrial process.  相似文献
