Formaldehyde is an important chemical that is mostly handled in aqueous solutions, which generally also contain methanol; furthermore, also solutions of formaldehyde in other alcohols are used. The density of these solutions is an important thermophysical property. The available models of the density of formaldehyde-containing solutions, however, all have shortcomings, such as a poor accuracy or a limited range of applicability. Therefore, in the present work, a new model of the density in systems of the type (formaldehyde + water + alcohol) was developed. The alcohols that are presently included in the new model are methanol, 1-propanol, and isoprenol; an extension to other alcohols is straightforward. The model was developed using literature data and extensive new density data measured in this work covering binary, ternary, and quarternary solutions of formaldehyde in water, methanol, 1-propanol, and isoprenol at temperatures of K and formaldehyde concentrations of 0.06 − 0.30 g g−1. 相似文献

In the past, some fire investigators have determined the cause of a fire to be electrical in nature based, in part, on the presence of an electrical cord or cable found beneath a furniture leg or a cable wedged tightly under a staple. While fires resulting from these events are possible, the mechanisms that lead to these failures are poorly understood. In this paper, the results of four research projects are presented. The first three projects focused on the creation of a pinched cord failure under various current loads and pressures. In the last project, a typical nonmetallic-sheathed cable was damaged and then installed with an overdriven staple over the damaged location. In all tests, the cords and cables were subjected to current loads varying between 100 and 250% of the rated ampacity. The failure rate of pinched cords was approximately 1%, but required the use of overloaded circuits and pre-existing damage or special orientation of the cord under test. A critical factor worth considering with these failures, which is often not accounted for, is time. These failures may take weeks, months, or years to occur under normal conditions, although some investigators may assume they develop nearly instantaneously. The conditions of the circuit are also important, as the only way a failure developed in these tests was by operating the circuits in excess of their rated parameters. 相似文献

A major challenge in understanding how biological cells arose on the early Earth is explaining how RNA and membranes originally colocalized. We propose that the building blocks of RNA (nucleobases and ribose) bound to self-assembled prebiotic membranes. We have previously demonstrated that the bases bind to membranes composed of a prebiotic fatty acid, but evidence for the binding of sugars has remained a technical challenge. Here, we used pulsed-field gradient NMR spectroscopy to demonstrate that ribose and other sugars bind to membranes of decanoic acid. Moreover, the binding of some bases is strongly enhanced when they are linked to ribose to form a nucleoside or – with the addition of phosphate – a nucleotide. This enhanced binding could have played a role in the molecular evolution leading to the production of RNA. 相似文献

Hydratases provide access to secondary and tertiary alcohols by regio‐ and/or stereospecifically adding water to carbon‐carbon double bonds. Thereby, hydroxy groups are introduced without the need for costly cofactor recycling, and that makes this approach highly interesting on an industrial scale. Here we present the first crystal structure of a recombinant oleate hydratase originating from Elizabethkingia meningoseptica in the presence of flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD). A structure‐based mutagenesis study targeting active site residues identified E122 and Y241 as crucial for the activation of a water molecule and for protonation of the double bond, respectively. Moreover, we also observed that two‐electron reduction of FAD results in a sevenfold increase in the substrate hydration rate. We propose the first reaction mechanism for this enzyme class that explains the requirement for the flavin cofactor and the involvement of conserved amino acid residues in this regio‐ and stereoselective hydration. 相似文献

X‐type actinomycins (Acms) contain 4‐hydroxyproline (Acm X0) or 4‐oxoproline (Acm X2) in their β‐pentapeptide lactone rings, whereas their α ring contains proline. We demonstrate that these Acms are formed through asymmetric condensation of Acm half molecules (Acm halves) containing proline with 4‐hydroxyproline‐ or 4‐oxoproline‐containing Acm halves. In turn, we show—using an artificial Acm half analogue (PPL 1) with proline in its peptide chain—their conversion into the 4‐hydroxyproline‐ and 4‐oxoproline‐containing Acm halves, PPL 0 and PPL 2, in mycelial suspensions of Streptomyces antibioticus. Two responsible genes of the Acm X biosynthetic gene cluster of S. antibioticus, saacmM and saacmN, encoding a cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (Cyp) and a ferredoxin were identified. After coexpression in Escherichia coli, their gene products converted PPL 1 into PPL 0 and PPL 2 in vivo as well as in situ in permeabilized cell of the transformed E. coli strain in conjunction with the host‐encoded ferredoxin reductase in a NADH (NADPH)‐dependent manner. saAcmM has high sequence similarity to the Cyp107Z (Ema) family of Cyps, which can convert avermectin B1 into its keto derivative, 4′′‐oxoavermectin B1. Determination of the structure of saAcmM reveals high similarity to the Ema structure but with significant differences in residues decorating their active sites, which defines saAcmM and its orthologues as a distinct new family of peptidylprolineketonizing Cyp. 相似文献
