In this paper, waste clay was cured with ethyl acetate to obtain treated clay(TC), which was modified with gallic acid to obtain a low-cost sorbent that was characterized by EDX, SEM, and FTIR analysis. Uranium(Ⅵ) adsorption was achieved using the batch adsorption method on the TC and gallic acid-modified treated clay(GMTC). The maximum uptakes of U(Ⅵ) on TC and GMTC were 37.2 and 193.0 mg/g, respectively.The U(Ⅵ) adsorption kinetics on the TC and GMTC sorbents were well-fitted by the pseudo-second-order mechanism, and the adsorption equilibrium followed the Langmuir model. This article introduces a high-level system using belief functions for exchanging and managing imperfect information about events on the road in vehicular ad hoc networks. The main purpose of this application is to provide the most reliable information for the driver from multiple messages received informing the driver about events on the roads. This paper presents a study on the synthesis of porous polymers with an application to microneedles. A range of Poly (ethylene
glycol-co-methacrylic acid) polymers are synthesised using bulk polymerisation techniques to produce porous polymers with
various strength and fluid transport characteristics. The synthesised materials are morphologically and mechanically characterised.
Using different porogens in the polymer synthesis results in different mechanical strength and fluid flow characteristics.
The results indicate that the fluid flow characteristics of the polymers can be sacrificed to improve strength. Optimum polymer
strength can be attained by synthesising polymers with macropores that are interconnected via nanopores using the minimum

Throughout adulthood and old age, levels of well-being appear to remain relatively stable. However, evidence is emerging that late in life well-being declines considerably. Using long-term longitudinal data of deceased participants in national samples from Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States, we examined how long this period lasts. In all 3 nations and across the adult age range, well-being was relatively stable over age but declined rapidly with impending death. Articulating notions of terminal decline associated with impending death, we identified prototypical transition points in each study between 3 and 5 years prior to death, after which normative rates of decline steepened by a factor of 3 or more. The findings suggest that mortality-related mechanisms drive late-life changes in well-being and highlight the need for further refinement of psychological concepts about how and when late-life declines in psychosocial functioning prototypically begin. Meeting the mental health needs of Veterans returning from recent deployment requires the coordinated effort of partnerships across Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and state and local communities. Although the proportion of Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan who have accessed VA health care has grown, the majority of these new combat Veterans have yet to present for VA care. The stigma associated with reporting a deployment-related mental health problem may be one factor in this, but access to treatment may also be an important concern among the one third of American Veterans who live in rural or highly rural areas. As these Veterans are more likely to present to a primary care, faith-based or mental health provider in their own community, partnerships between community providers, DoD, and VA are of critical importance in ensuring appropriate care, regardless of treatment setting. In an effort to improve services and access to services, especially to rural Veterans, an educational public health initiative was created to educate community providers about military culture, deployment-related mental health issues, VA resources, and evidence-based treatments. We describe the development, dissemination and evaluation of this initiative, as well as lessons learned for future similar endeavors. Sulfur dioxide SO? is the key additive for the preservation of wines. Carbonyl and keto compounds in wine can bind to SO? and decrease its efficacy, resulting in higher total SO? requirements. Increased consumer demand for low sulfite and organic wines pose production challenges if SO? binders have not been properly managed during vinification. Malolactic fermentation (MLF) has been known to reduce bound SO? levels but detailed time course studies are not available. In this work, the kinetics of major SO? binding compounds and malic acid were followed during MLF in wine with 12 commercially available strains of Oenococcus oeni. Pyruvic acid, acetaldehyde and α-ketoglutaric acid were degraded to various degrees by O. oeni, but galacturonic acid was not. At the time of malic acid depletion, percent degradation of pyruvate, α-ketoglutaric acid and acetaldehyde was 49%, 14% and 30%, respectively. During MLF, the decrease in average bound SO? levels, as calculated from carbonyl metabolism, was 22%. The largest reduction in wine carbonyl content occurred in the week after completion of MLF and was 53% (107 mg/L to 34 mg/L) calculated as bound SO?. Prolonged activity of bacteria in the wines (up to 3 weeks post malic acid depletion) resulted only in reduced additional reductions in bound SO? levels. The results suggest that microbiological wine stabilization one week after malic acid depletion is an effective strategy for maximum removal of SO? binders while reducing the risk of possible post-ML spoilage by O. oeni leading to the production acetic acid and biogenic amines. 相似文献
