The authors describe a 9.02×9.02-mm chip built in 1-μm CMOS with two levels of metal and an additional mask level for fabricating capacitors. It contains both analog and digital circuits and has provisions for self-test. The function includes the transmitter, receiver, protocol handler, an microprocessor, as well as interfaces for RAM/ROM storage, IBM PC bus, IBM PS/2 bus, IBM 3174 bus, and Motorola 68000 bus. The physical design terrains are formed by 24K circuits of standard cell gates, a 10K-circuit equivalent hand-honed custom microprocessor, and an analog macro. The digital multistep method generates uniform pseudorandom numbers by transforming sequences of integers obtained by multistep recursions. The statistical independence properties of these pseudorandom numbers depend on the characteristic polynomial of the recursion. We describe a method of calculating characteristic polynomials that are optimal with respect to statistical independence of pairs of successive pseudorandom numbers. The weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) method is an excellent spatial discretization for hyperbolic partial differential equations with discontinuous solutions. However, the time-step restriction associated with explicit methods may pose severe limitations on their use in applications requiring large scale computations. An efficient implicit WENO method is necessary. In this paper, we propose a prototype flux-implicit WENO (iWENO) method. Numerical tests on classical scalar equations show that this is a viable and stable method, which requires appropriate time-stepping methods. Participants: Two groups of women with physical disabilities (n=15). Intervention: Seven-session weekly workshop intervention grounded primarily in social-cognitive theory. Setting: Disability and rehabilitation settings. Main Outcome Measures: Indicators of health status. Results: Statistically significant positive changes between pre- and postintervention scores on measures of self-efficacy for dietary behaviors, medical decision making, social interaction, physical functioning, impact of physical limitation on role activities, and vitality. Numerous studies have confirmed the distinct biological behavior of two subsets of prostate cancer diagnosed incidentally after either transurethral resection (TURP) or open prostatectomy for presumed benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Focal, low-grade lesions are associated with a low risk for clinical progression and are designated as stage T1a or A1. These cases have traditionally been managed conservatively with close clinical observation. In contrast, multifocal, high-volume, or high-grade tumors are associated with a more aggressive clinical course and are designated as stage T1b or A2. Early definitive intervention is usually advocated for these latter patients. Therefore, accurate pathological assignment to either stage T1a or T1b is crucial for selection of appropriate management options. A variety of methods for staging patients with incidentally detected prostate cancer have been proposed, including detailed histological analysis, repeat TURP or transurethral biopsy, serial prostate-specific antigen (PSA) analysis, and imaging with either transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) or magnetic resonance (MRI) techniques. Protein and oil content of the soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] seed and the fatty acid composition of the oil can be altered by environmental stress. The objective of this
study was to characterize the composition of the phospholipid (PL) from soybean seeds after exposure to drought and high temperature
during seed fill. Drought stress was imposed on greenhouse-grown soybean plants at temperatures of 28 and 33‡C after the beginning
of seed fill and was maintained throughout the seed-fill period. The fatty acid composition of each PL class was altered by
drought and high temperature. With phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine, which composed 89% of the separated PL,
greater proportions of 16:0 and 18:0 and lesser proportions of 18:2 and 18:3 were present in soybean seeds exposed to high
temperature and severe drought. More linolenic acid and less palmitic acid were present in phosphatidylinositol. The changes
were comparable to those of the triglyceride because of high temperature. The elevated temperature increased the proportion
of phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylinositol and decreased that of phosphatidylethanolamine. The effect of drought and
high temperature stress on PL class and fatty acid composition has important implications on the quality of soybean seed oil

In this work, point-wise discretization error is bounded via interval approach for the elasticity problem using interval boundary element formulation. The formulation allows for computation of the worst case bounds on the boundary values for the elasticity problem. From these bounds the worst case bounds on the true solution at any point in the domain of the system can be computed. Optical detection, ranging, and imaging of targets in turbid water is complicated by absorption and scattering. It has been shown that using a pulsed laser source with a range-gated receiver or an intensity modulated source with a coherent RF receiver can improve target contrast in turbid water. A blended approach using a modulated-pulse waveform has been previously suggested as a way to further improve target contrast. However only recently has a rugged and reliable laser source been developed that is capable of synthesizing such a waveform so that the effect of the underwater environment on the propagation of a modulated pulse can be studied. Extracellular mechanical cues have been shown to have a profound effect on osteogenic cell behaviour. However, it is not known precisely how these cues alter intracellular mechanics to initiate changes in cell behaviour. In this study, a combination of in vitro culture of MC3T3-E1 cells and finite-element modelling was used to investigate the effects of passive differences in substrate stiffness on intracellular mechanics. Cells on collagen-based substrates were classified based on the presence of cell processes and the dimensions of various cellular features were quantified. Focal adhesion (FA) density was quantified from immunohistochemical staining, while cell and substrate stiffnesses were measured using a live-cell atomic force microscope. Computational models of cell morphologies were developed using an applied contraction of the cell body to simulate active cell contraction. The results showed that FA density is directly related to cell morphology, while the effect of substrate stiffness on internal cell tension was modulated by both cell morphology and FA density, as investigated by varying the number of adhesion sites present in each morphological model. We propose that the cells desire to achieve a homeostatic stress state may play a role in osteogenic cell differentiation in response to extracellular mechanical cues. 相似文献
