Structural assessment of existing reinforced concrete constructions under gravity loads and seismic actions has a high social and economical impact; actually in many European countries, most of the buildings dates back to 1960s and 1970s and cannot ensure satisfactory seismic response, since many areas have been later classified as seismic or since design has been carried out according to obsolete codes. These structures are generally reinforced with smooth bars that exhibit poor bond and need specific anchoring end details. In the present paper, some key aspects of structural models of smooth reinforcement for old-type r.c. frame analysis are reported. Results of experimental tests on smooth reinforcement and circular hook anchoring devices are also used to discuss some aspects of behavioural models of beam to column critical regions.  相似文献

Drug-eluting beads (DEBs) are embolising devices in clinical use for the treatment of liver cancer by transarterial chemoembolisation. In this study, release kinetics of doxorubicin (DOX) and irinotecan (IRI) were investigated by experimental evaluations and mathematical modeling, based on Langmuir isotherm and two phenomenological models (Boyd/Bhaskar) developed to determine the actual mechanisms controlling drug release rate. The model was validated through release studies, in particular by assessing how drug loading, ionic strength of the release medium and device swelling during release influence drug release kinetics. Results demonstrated that IRI is released much faster than DOX, and that DEB volume strongly depends upon drug loading and fractional release. This effect was properly taken into account in developing the mathematical model. Experimental results were well fit by numerical simulations, and two different rate-controlling mechanisms were found to govern DOX and IRI delivery.  相似文献

The escalation in product recalls in recent years is attributed to the rise of globalisation and associated challenges of offshoring. Extant SCM research suggests that product recalls have a significant negative impact on financial performance, but gaps exist relative to the managerial actions to minimise their impact. Recall response strategies have become more important in the press, given that a single recall may result in the mandatory withdrawal of millions of products from the market, with firms incurring enormous logistics costs and brand damage. In this study, we address this gap in the research, and using a measure of product recall defined as the volume of products withdrawn from the market due to product quality failure. We explore the scale of the recall in the context of pharmaceutical sector global sourcing strategies, exploring whether the variation in global sourcing decisions not only increases the likelihood of a recall, but also influences the capability to minimise the total cost of recall. Our results suggest that offshore outsourcing and captive offshoring have opposite effects in terms of their influence on the magnitude of product recall. We summarise the implications through a compelling set of insights for future global sourcing strategy research themes.  相似文献

Poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB)‐based bionanocomposites were prepared using various percentages of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) by a solution casting method. CNCs were prepared from microcrystalline cellulose using sulfuric acid hydrolysis. The influence of CNCs on PHB properties was evaluated using differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, thermogravimetry and tensile testing. Vapor permeation and light transmission of the materials were also measured. Differential scanning calorimetric tests demonstrated that CNCs were effective PHB nucleation agents. Tensile strength and Young's modulus of PHB increased with increasing CNC concentration. Moreover, the PHB/CNC bionanocomposites exhibited reduced water vapor permeation compared to neat PHB and had better UV barrier properties than commodity polymers such as polypropylene. It was found that nanocomposites with 6 wt% of CNCs had the optimum balance among thermal, mechanical and barrier properties. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A full-scale unreinforced masonry (URM) wall with an opening was tested under in-plane lateral loading. The wall was first subjected to monotonically increasing displacements until a moderate damage level was reached. The damaged specimen was then cyclically tested up to almost the same maximum drift attained during the monotonic test to investigate the effects of previous damage on its nonlinear response. Finally, the masonry wall was repaired with inorganic matrix-grid (IMG) composites and subjected to a cyclic displacement-controlled test up to a near-collapse state. Most of the observed damage developed in the spandrel panel affecting both lateral resistance and strength degradation. Rocking of piers governed lateral stiffness and hysteretic response, which was characterized by low residual displacements and recentering behavior. The comparison between the experimental force-displacement curves demonstrated that the IMG strengthening system was able to provide energy dissipation capacity to the spandrel panel, restoring load-bearing capacity of the as-built wall, and delaying strength degradation that was indeed observed at larger displacements. Bilinear idealizations of force-displacement curves allowed the identification of displacement ductility, global overstrength, and strength reduction factor of the tested wall systems.  相似文献

Past experimental tests on a full-scale masonry wall with an opening evidenced the key role of the spandrel panel in the in-plane nonlinear response of the system. Recent seismic codes do not provide specific criteria to assess and to strengthen existing masonry spandrel panels with inorganic matrix-grid (IMG) composites. Numerical finite-element (FE) analyses are used to deepen the knowledge about the nonlinear response of masonry walls and the role of the IMG strengthening system. The comparison of experimental and numerical results contributes to the development of a simplified analytical model to assess the influence of the external reinforcement system on the in-plane seismic response of masonry wall systems. Some hints about the strengthening design that could change the failure mode from brittle shear to ductile flexure are given. Finally, a further enhancement of the IMG strengthening system is proposed to avoid the undesirable splitting phenomena attributable to compression forces and to exploit the full compressive strength of masonry against bending moments.  相似文献

In the present work a multiscale approach is considered for the design of composite sandwich structures for a roof of railway vehicle. The procedure consists in different steps that start from cost/benefit analysis on materials and their manufacturing process and cycle up to analysis of sub-components and entire structures. Each step is characterized by experimental, theoretical and numerical studies. The design activities herein presented count experimental campaigns able to characterize both the properties of novel sandwich material, manufactured expressly for transportation industry, the sandwich and joint behaviors. Analytical and numerical approaches have been used to validate and optimize the structural layout. Finite element analysis has been also performed on a test article to verify the “new” sandwich roof in regard to structural requirements suggested by European Code.  相似文献
