We perform a systematic measurement of the degree-of-polarization (DOP) and eye-closure penalty for optical signals with orthogonal polarizations. We find that the symmetry of DOP is maintained for the orthogonal polarizations under both first and higher order polarization-mode dispersion (PMD), whereas the symmetry of eye-closure penalty is broken under second-order PMD. An orthogonal polarization pair can have large disparity of eye-closure penalty despite an identical DOP. We also demonstrate a novel approach to estimate the maximum eye-closure penalty asymmetry with three orthogonal polarizations on the Poincare/spl acute/ sphere.  相似文献

Visual transduction in Drosophila is a G protein-coupled phospholipase C-mediated process that leads to depolarization via activation of the transient receptor potential (TRP) calcium channel. Inactivation-no-afterpotential D (INAD) is an adaptor protein containing PDZ domains known to interact with TRP. Immunoprecipitation studies indicate that INAD also binds to eye-specific protein kinase C and the phospholipase C, no-receptor-potential A (NORPA). By overlay assay and site-directed mutagenesis we have defined the essential elements of the NORPA-INAD association and identified three critical residues in the C-terminal tail of NORPA that are required for the interaction. These residues, Phe-Cys-Ala, constitute a novel binding motif distinct from the sequences recognized by the PDZ domain in INAD. To evaluate the functional significance of the INAD-NORPA association in vivo, we generated transgenic flies expressing a modified NORPA, NORPAC1094S, that lacks the INAD interaction. The transgenic animals display a unique electroretinogram phenotype characterized by slow activation and prolonged deactivation. Double mutant analysis suggests a possible inaccessibility of eye-specific protein kinase C to NORPAC1094S, undermining the observed defective deactivation, and that delayed activation may similarly result from NORPAC1094S being unable to localize in close proximity to the TRP channel. We conclude that INAD acts as a scaffold protein that facilitates NORPA-TRP interactions required for gating of the TRP channel in photoreceptor cells.  相似文献

In this letter, we conduct analysis on the optimum design for RF-to-optical up-converter in coherent optical OFDM systems using an optical I/Q modulator. We first derive closed-form expressions for the nonlinearity in the optical I/Q modulator, represented by two-tone intermodulation products as a function of the bias point and modulation index. Additionally, we perform a numerical simulation to identify Q-penalty and the excess modulation insertion loss under various transmitter conditions. We find that in contrast to the direct-detected system, the optimal modulator bias point for the coherent system is pi, where the Q-penalty and excess loss are minimized  相似文献

Turbo codes have received tremendous attention and have commenced their practical applications due to their excellent error-correcting capability. Investigation of efficient iterative decoder realizations is of particular interest because the underlying soft-input soft-output decoding algorithms usually lead to highly complicated implementation. This paper describes the architectural design and analysis of sliding-window (SW) Log-MAP decoders in terms of a set of predetermined parameters. The derived mathematical representations can be applied to construct a variety of VLSI architectures for different applications. Based on our development, a SW-Log-MAP decoder complying with the specification of third-generation mobile radio systems is realized to demonstrate the performance tradeoffs among latency, average decoding rate, area/computation complexity, and memory power consumption. This paper thus provides useful and general information on practical implementation of SW-Log-MAP decoders.  相似文献

Correlations between the macroscopic bulk polymer properties storage modulus (E′) and loss modulus (E″) and the microscopic property of cross-polarization as represented by the time constant TCH have been established for a series of polyurethane elastomers. The dependence of E′, E″, and TCH as a function of molecular weight, rigid domain concentration, and temperature are graphically presented as a series of log plots. An experimental relationship is presented that shows that the distribution of motions of the flexible domains appears to be the major factor in the success of these correlations.  相似文献

An InGaAsP/InP laser monolithically integrated with a rear facet monitor and a fiber V-groove has been demonstrated for the first time. The integrated device incorporates an etched-facet laser fabricated using an in situ, multistep, reactive ion etch process. The integrated V-groove, which is etched directly into the InP substrate, is designed to enable passive alignment of an optical fiber to the active region of the laser. Passive coupling efficiencies of 18% and 8% have been obtained using cleaved multimode and single mode fibers, respectively. Responsivities of the rear facet monitor were as high as 0.49 A/W  相似文献

Temperature-dependent current-voltage measurement was employed to study the band offsets of the In0.30Ga0.70As/In 0.29Al0.71As heterojunction. The conduction band discontinuity was determined to be 0.71±0.05 eV which corresponds to a conduction band offset to bandgap difference ratio ~0.66.
