A class of production systems are considered in this paper with the aim of determining closed-loop strategies providing the production effort as functions of the system state. The key feature of the considered class of systems is that the demand and the way it is satisfied are asynchronous sequences of part requests and instantaneous withdrawals, respectively, generated by discrete-event processes, whereas the production process has continuous-time dynamics. The optimization problem, whose objective is to minimize inventory and lateness costs, is restated as an optimal control problem by exploiting some structural properties of the optimal solution. Then, optimal closed-loop strategies are found with dynamic programming techniques.  相似文献

A statistical model based on Tarpley’s original solar irradiation model is proposed and evaluated using data from seven new ground stations in Uruguay. The model estimates hourly global solar irradiation on a horizontal surface using GOES-East satellite images. We show that the introduction of a simple brightness dependence in the model parameters drastically improves the accuracy of the estimates. The implementations of the original and the improved models are explained in detail. For each case, the parameters are adjusted using controlled quality solar irradiation data and a comprehensive performance analysis, on an hourly and daily basis, is carried out using data from independent measurement sites. The relative RMS deviations for the estimates of the brightness-dependent model are 7.1% for the daily estimates and 14.0% for the hourly estimates, relative to the mean of the measurements. This represents a reduction of approximately 45% (daily) and 25% (hourly) in the relative RMS deviations of the original model. The improved model provides a good balance between simplicity and accuracy.  相似文献

The effect of a feedback control on the onset of steady and oscillatory Bénard–Marangoni instability in a rotating horizontal fluid layer is considered theoretically using linear stability theory. It is demonstrated that generally the critical Marangoni number for transition from the no-motion (conduction) to the motion state can be drastically increased by the combined effects of feedback control and rotation. The role of the controller gain parameter on the Pr-Ta and Pr-R/Rc parameter spaces, dividing stability domains into which either steady or oscillatory convection is preferred, is determined.  相似文献

Increased generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and low levels of antioxidants may cause morbidity in premature infants on supplemental oxygen. Glutathione (GSH)-dependent antioxidant systems protect against ROS, and regenerating GSH from GSH disulfide (GSSG) by the flavoenzyme GSH reductase (GR) is essential for the optimal function of this system. Previously, we have observed enhanced resistance to t-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BuOOH) in Chinese hamster ovary cells stably transfected with a vector (leader sequence GR [LGR]) for human GR cDNA that contained a functional synthetic mitochondrial targeting signal. The present studies were designed to investigate adenovirus-mediated gene transfer of LGR to H441 cells and resistance of such cells to t-BuOOH. Adenovirus-mediated transfection of H441 cells with LGR increased total GR activities more than 11-fold (mitochondria more than 10-fold and cytosolic more than 7-fold) and protected against t-BuOOH cytotoxicity, as indicated by lower fractional release of cellular lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) than was observed in wild-type untransfected cells (CON) or in cells transfected with a control gene (human manganese superoxide dismutase in the antisense orientation [DOS]) (*LGR 6.6 +/- 1.7; DOS 16 +/- 1.8; CON 16.6 +/- 0.7% LDH release). In addition, cells transfected with LGR retained higher GSH/GSSG ratios (*LGR 66 +/- 0.4; DOS 47 +/- 1; CON 52.6 +/- 2.3) and released less GSH + GSSG to the media in response to challenge with t-BuOOH (*LGR 0.05 +/- 0.01; DOS 0.08 +/- 0.01; CON 0.07 +/- 0.01 nmol/mg of protein) than did wild-type cells or cells transfected with a control vector, indicating an enhanced ability of the LGR cells to reduce GSSG formed in response to exposure to t-BuOOH. In conclusion, adenovirus-mediated gene transfer of LGR enhanced cellular GR activities and protected H441 cells from oxidant stresses.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:  In this study, photooxidation of sour cream packaged in cups with different light barrier properties was investigated. The sour cream was light exposed for 36 h with a standard fluorescent light tube, simulating storage conditions in many Norwegian grocery stores. Three different cups were evaluated: a white cup, a cup with medium light barrier (LB), and a cup with high LB. The quality of the sour cream was evaluated by sensory analysis and front face fluorescence spectroscopy. The sour cream stored in white cups became very rancid during the light exposure, with a rancid flavor score of 7.8 on a scale from 1 to 9, where 9 is the highest intensity. Cups with high LB gave best protection against the light. The sensory assessors could not distinguish between sour cream stored in cups with high LB and sour cream stored in the dark. The rancid flavor intensity for the cups with medium LB was significantly different ( P  < 0.05) from both the white cup and the cup with high LB. The sensory flavor intensities indicated that with 36 h of light exposure, only a cup with high LB will protect the sour cream sufficiently. The fluorescence measurements corresponded well with the sensory analysis as the photosensitizers were somewhat degraded for sour cream stored in cups with medium LB and most degraded in the white cups. For the cups with high LB, the fluorescence peaks that originated from the photosensitizers were all intact.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Dairy products such as sour cream will develop off-odor and taste faults ("sunlight taste") in a few hours if exposed to sufficient fluorescent lightning in the grocery stores. A light barrier can be incorporated in the packaging material to protect the dairy products from the light. Our experiment showed that the incorporation of a black pigment into 1 of the 3 plastic layers in the cup for packaging of sour cream protected the sour cream from degradation when exposed to light.  相似文献

In this article the authors describe a patient (J.P.) whose category-specific naming deficit eluded the classical dichotomies between living versus nonliving items or visual versus functional attributes. At age 22, he had herpes simplex encephalitis followed by a left temporal lobectomy. J.P. was tested on measures of visual perception, category naming, fluency, and name-picture matching. He showed a severe impairment naming and identifying fruits, vegetables, and musical instruments. His performance with animals and birds was spared inconsistently, meaning that even the preserved categories were, at some point, affected. J.P.'s unusual deficit supports the hypothesis that semantic knowledge is organized in the brain on the basis of object properties, which can cut across the living-nonliving categorical distinction. The efficacies of two regimens for the treatment of acute clinical mastitis were compared in a randomised multi-centre field trial in Norway, using 657 cows. The purpose was to determine whether repeated intramuscular injections of penicillin G for three days were more effective than a single injection, when given in combination with intramammary treatment for five days. The results were evaluated on the basis of clinical and microbiological examinations and cell count determinations of quarter milk samples taken at the initial visit and four weeks later. There were no significant differences between the effects of the treatments, either for all the cows, or for subgroups of the cows based on age, stage of lactation, and systemic reaction, or the type of causal bacteria.  相似文献

We present a mathematical analysis of the effects of Hebbian learning in random recurrent neural networks, with a generic Hebbian learning rule, including passive forgetting and different timescales, for neuronal activity and learning dynamics. Previous numerical work has reported that Hebbian learning drives the system from chaos to a steady state through a sequence of bifurcations. Here, we interpret these results mathematically and show that these effects, involving a complex coupling between neuronal dynamics and synaptic graph structure, can be analyzed using Jacobian matrices, which introduce both a structural and a dynamical point of view on neural network evolution. Furthermore, we show that sensitivity to a learned pattern is maximal when the largest Lyapunov exponent is close to 0. We discuss how neural networks may take advantage of this regime of high functional interest.  相似文献
