Boron is considered to influence the performance of several metabolic enzymes and boron deficiency is associated with impaired growth and abnormal bone development. As such, boron is a beneficial bioactive element for animals and humans. It is also well known that boron stimulates wound healing and improves bone health. The addition of boron in different proportions to bioactive glasses has significant effects on glass structure, glass processing parameters, biodegradability, biocompatibility, bioactivity and cytotoxicity. Different compositions of bioactive glasses (BGs) containing boron, including boron-doped, borosilicate and borate glasses, are being investigated for bone and soft tissue engineering under the premise that these BGs are suitable carriers of boron, indicating controlled release of B species in the biological environment. This paper reviews up to date research and applications of borate, borosilicate, and boron doped silicate and phosphate BGs focussing on their physical, structural, degradation and biological properties for hard and soft tissue regeneration.  相似文献

One of the strategies to overcome the drawbacks of fast charge recombination of a photocatalyst is to develop semiconductor heterostructures. Herein, we report a two-step precipitation-hydrothermal process to create CuFeO2-ZnO heterostructures with different weight percentages of CuFeO2 (0.5, 1, 5, and 10%). Though X-ray diffraction detected the presence of CuFeO2 on ZnO above 5%, Raman spectroscopy could reveal the presence of CuFeO2 phase as low as 0.5 wt%. For all of the compositions, the bandgap of ZnO did not vary (3.15 eV) on forming heterostructures with CuFeO2. The oxidation of methylene blue under sunlight was used to determine the photocatalytic performance of the heterostructures. In comparison to pure ZnO and CuFeO2, CuFeO2-ZnO heterostructures exhibited a better photocatalytic efficiency. Overall, 5 wt% CuFeO2 on ZnO showed 100% degradation with a rate constant of 0.272?±?0.002 min?1, which is 16 times faster than ZnO. Time-resolved photoluminescence analysis indicated a higher lifespan of charge carriers in the 5wt% CuFeO2-ZnO heterostructure (32.3 ns) than that of CuFeO2 (0.85 ns) and ZnO (27.6 ns). The Mott–Schottky flat band potentials of ZnO and CuFeO2 was determined to be -0.82 and 1.17 eV, respectively, revealing the presence of Type I heterostructures. The heterostructures also showed outstanding recyclability, with a degradation rate of 97% even after four cycles. The current study shows the significance of forming p-type CuFeO2 and n-type ZnO heterostructures for enhanced photocatalysis.

Low temperature densification and improving the ionic conductivity of doped ceria electrolyte is important for the realization of efficient intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cell system. Herein, we report the effect of lithium co-doping (1, 3, 5 and 7?mol%) in 20?mol% samarium doped ceria on the low temperature sinterability and conductivity. The synthesized nanoparticles by citrate-nitrate combustion method showed a decrease in lattice parameter and increase in oxygen vacancy with lithium content after calcination due to the substitution of Li+ into CeO2 lattice. Upon sintering at 900?°C, the density improved and reached a maximum value of 98.6% for 5% Li which exhibited a dense microstructure than at 7% Li. 5%Li co-doping exhibited the best conductivity of 3.65?×?10?04–1.81?×?10?3 S?cm?1 in the operative temperature range of IT-SOFC (550–700?°C).Our results demonstrate the significance of lithium as co-dopant for efficient low temperature sintering as well as improving the electrolyte conductivity.  相似文献

Abstract

Congested road network and traffic jam lead to vehicle idling and fuel wastage. An E-bike which is a solution to this is often available with Thumb Throttle Mechanism and single speed operation. A motor controller with multiple output voltage levels and Click Throttle Mechanism is presented in this paper which provides variable speed operation, better power utilization and is highly economical. Proposed modified KY converter utilizes the turns ratio of an On-Line Tap Changer (OLTC) to generate multiple output voltages for variable speed commutation. This possess a stable continuous conduction mode throughout its operation and reduced switching transients when compared to the existing topologies. Mutually independent control variables namely turns ratio and duty ratio, are used here for voltage conversion, which facilitates the flexible transition between multiple output voltage levels. A 15?W prototype of the proposed modified inductor coupled KY converter is realized using Arduino Uno Board.  相似文献
