Amidoamines are widely used as crosslinkers for epoxy resins in protective coatings on metal substrates; however, their cure chemistry is not well elaborated in the technical literature. During cure, the epoxy–amine and epoxy–amide NH reactions could be accompanied by epoxy–hydroxyl etherification, epoxy–epoxy homopolymerization, and reaction between hydroxyls and amide moiety to form in situ ester and amine. To understand the epoxy–amidoamine cure chemistry and correlate it with coating performance properties, amidoamines of known structure are required. Therefore, amidoamines were synthesized by reacting dimer fatty acids with diethylene triamine. When these amidoamines were cured with epoxy resins, discrepancies were observed between systems cured at ambient and thermal conditions. The presence of solvents were seen to greatly affect the rate of epoxy–amidoamine cure at ambient, and before and after vitrification. Near‐IR and mid‐IR spectroscopy studies indicated that side reactions occurred to some extent during cure. No reaction was noted between the amide NH moiety and the epoxide group below 150°C whereas ester formation was noted above 120°C. Removal of bacteria by filtration in planted and non-planted sand columns   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In order to diminish hygienic hazards from pathogens, the elimination of pathogenic bacteria in a pre-treatment step is important for the use of domestic wastewater for irrigation purposes. Therefore, we analysed the removal of bacteria in laboratory-scale model sand filters simulating vertical flow systems of constructed wetlands (CW). Sand-filled glass columns were planted with Juncus effusus or Phragmites australis and non-planted columns were used as controls. Processes of bacteria removal such as adsorption, lysis, and the biotic effects caused by plants, protozoa, and Bdellovibrio were studied with E. coli as a model bacterium. E. coli suspensions (10(8) cellsml(-1)) were trickled on the columns by intermittent loading under non-water-saturated operation conditions. In non-planted and sterilized sand columns, an initial removal of cells was observed in the range as expected by the adsorption capacity of the sand columns. After loading of the sand with cells, an increasing reduction of the cell concentrations by 3-4 orders of magnitude in the effluent was registered up to volumetric loads of more than 548mll(-1) day(-1) (230mm day(-1)). In planted columns, no higher levels of removal were observed. Predation by protozoa, which were found in concentrations up to 10(4)ml(-1) in the effluent, is considered to be the main reason for the elimination. However, Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus was also found in plaque-forming units of about 10(4)g(-1) sand, suggesting that this bacteriovorous bacterium plays an additional role in the removal process. In a second series of experiments, domestic wastewater was applied and removal efficiencies up to four orders of magnitude of the cfu's of coliform bacteria, faecal streptococci, and salmonellae were observed. Considering the transpiration of the plants, higher removal efficiencies were found in the planted variants. Protozoa and Bdellovibrio were detected in the domestic wastewater in varying concentrations, suggesting that predation and lysis were the major removal mechanisms.  相似文献

The discovery and understanding of gecko ‘frictional-adhesion’ adhering and climbing mechanism has allowed researchers to mimic and create gecko-inspired adhesives. A few experimental and theoretical approaches have been taken to understand the effect of surface roughness on synthetic adhesive performance, and the implications of stick–slip friction during shearing. This work extends previous studies by using a modified surface forces apparatus to quantitatively measure and model frictional forces between arrays of polydimethylsiloxane gecko footpad-mimetic tilted microflaps against smooth and rough glass surfaces. Constant attachments and detachments occur between the surfaces during shearing, as described by an avalanche model. These detachments ultimately result in failure of the adhesion interface and have been characterized in this study. Stick–slip friction disappears with increasing velocity when the flaps are sheared against a smooth silica surface; however, stick–slip was always present at all velocities and loads tested when shearing the flaps against rough glass surfaces. These results demonstrate the significance of pre-load, shearing velocity, shearing distances, commensurability and shearing direction of gecko-mimetic adhesives and provide us a simple model for analysing and/or designing such systems.  相似文献

We study the common fixed-point problem for the class of directed operators. This class is important because many commonly used nonlinear operators in convex optimization belong to it. We propose a definition of sparseness of a family of operators and investigate a string-averaging algorithmic scheme that favorably handles the common fixed-point problem when the family of operators is sparse. The convex feasibility problem is treated as a special case and a new subgradient projections algorithmic scheme is obtained.  相似文献

This paper examines the potential effects of Germany’s feed-in tariff policy for small roof-top solar PV systems installed between 2009 and 2030. Employing a partial equilibrium approach, we evaluate the policy by weighing the benefits from induced learning and avoided environmental externalities against the social costs of promoting residential PV. We use a dynamic optimization model that maximizes social welfare by accounting for learning-by-doing, technology diffusion, and yield-dependent demand. We find a wide range of effects on welfare, from net social costs of 2014 million € under a “business as usual” scenario to 7586 million € of net benefits under the positive prospects of PV’s development. Whereas the “business as usual” scenario underestimates actual price reductions, the positive scenario mirrors recent price developments and feed-in tariffs in the German residential PV market.  相似文献

We present the Procrustes measure, a novel measure based on Procrustes rotation that enables quantitative comparison of the output of manifold-based embedding algorithms such as LLE (Roweis and Saul, Science 290(5500), 2323–2326, 2000) and Isomap (Tenenbaum et al., Science 290(5500), 2319–2323, 2000). The measure also serves as a natural tool when choosing dimension-reduction parameters. We also present two novel dimension-reduction techniques that attempt to minimize the suggested measure, and compare the results of these techniques to the results of existing algorithms. Finally, we suggest a simple iterative method that can be used to improve the output of existing algorithms.  相似文献

Ocular parameters are influenced by sleep derivation and the use of chemical substances which are two major causes for traffic accidents. We assessed the use of these parameters as an objective screening tool for a driver's fitness for duty. Pupillary diameter, pupil reaction to light and saccadic velocity were measured in 29 army truck drivers every morning for two months and compared to baseline measurements taken while the subjects were alert. An index which expressed the difference between study and baseline measurements was calculated, and drivers with significant deviation from baseline were disqualified and interviewed. Non-disqualified drivers served as controls. Twenty-nine percent of disqualified drivers reported sleeping less than the minimum of 7 h required by army regulations compared with 8% of control drivers (p = 0.01). Disqualified drivers had worse sleep quality the night before the test (Groningen Sleep Quality Scale, p = 0.03) and incurred more accidents per driving day during their service (0.023 vs. 0.015 accidents/day, p = 0.03). Two disqualified drivers admitted to using alcohol or sleeping pills. Thus, these ocular parameters may serve as a screening tool for drivers that are at high risk for driving. Drivers who were disqualified even once, tend to be involved in more motor vehicle accidents than their peers.  相似文献
