Plastisols, which are a blend of poly(vinyl chloride) resin and a plasticizer (DEHP), were used as a toughening agent of a resol resin in order to improve the mechanical properties. It was not possible to formulate resol blends by adding more than 10 % of plastisol owing to a lack of apparent homogeneity in the systems, which also showed many air bubbles. The relationship between dynamic mechanical, mechanical and thermal properties and the amount of plastisol added was studied. It was determined from the infrared spectroscopy and dynamic mechanical results that the resol–plastisol blends seem to be formed by a reaction between the phenol and PVC giving a higher crosslinked structure. An improvement in the thermal resistance of the blends at lower temperatures was observed with an increase in the percentage of plastisol. Flexural analysis showed the elastic behaviour of the systems. However, it was not possible to observe the effect of the plasticizer (DEHP) owing to the low quantity of plastisol that was added to the resol. Copyright © 2004 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The porous structure evolution of thermosetting phenolic resin controlled by polymerization induced viscoelastic phase separation from solution was investigated in this work. The ultimate morphology and the evolution of a porous texture for the resol resin/solvent system were characterized by digital camera and optical microscopy. In-situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and a rheological method were used to trace the curing reaction of the resol resin/solvent system. The impacts of solvent content and curing temperature on the foaming behavior were quantitatively and systematically investigated. Based on the relationship between the morphology evolution and curing dynamics, the foaming mechanism of the polymerization induced viscoelastic phase separation was elucidated. The present work provides new insight into the foaming mechanism of thermosetting materials and may be helpful for morphological control in the preparation of lightweight porous phenolic material. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The solvent content‐dependent chemorheology of the solvent containing resol resin for resin transfer molding (RTM) was investigated. The curing behavior of the resol resin was studied by in situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy together with rheology tests. The chemorheological behavior of resol resins with a series of solvent contents was measured under isothermal conditions. The four parameters of empirical dual‐Arrhenius equation regarding isothermal resin viscosity and reaction rate constant were found to be functions of the solvent content. A simplified chemorheological model involving only three parameters of curing temperature, time, and solvent content was first established to facilely describe the viscosity during precuring process. The simulated viscosity results during isothermal curing process agreed well with the experimental data which shows the simplified chemorheological model can be utilized to describe the viscosity evolution and offer guidance for optimizing the injection process and improving the design flexibility of RTM process. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Vegetable fibers like cotton, sisal, and sugar cane bagasse have been used as reinforcement in a polymeric matrix. Because of its low cost and affinity with lignocellulosic fibers, a phenol‐formaldehyde resin —resol— was selected as the matrix. Composites were prepared by compression molding. The influence of fiber volume fraction‐Vf‐in flexural properties and density of composites has been studied. Cotton and sugar cane bagasse composites present a Vf value at which flexural strength and modulus are maxima. However, sisal composites show a continuous rise in flexural strength and modulus as fiber volume fraction increases, up to 76%, which is the highest concentration studied. Composites made with raw cotton show the highest values of strength and stiffness. The actual density of composites is always lower than theoretical density, due to the presence of voids. Scanning Electron Microscopy reveals a good adhesion between fiber and matrix in the composites. In addition, the flexural properties were analyzed with an efficiency criterion, which relates strength and stiffness with density, and the values obtained were compared with those corresponding to typical structural materials. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 利用凝胶脱水率的测定,研究了甲阶酚醛树脂/硼酸盐水凝胶的脱水性能.结果表明,甲阶酚醛树脂/硼酸盐水凝胶的脱水速率与其硼砂浓度、碱浓度、添加剂的种类和浓度,以及脱水的温度有关.随着硼砂浓度的增大,凝胶的脱水速率先减小,后增大,在0.125 mol/L时达到最小值.升高温度凝胶的脱水速率明显加快.添加不易挥发的醇或醚,可以有效地抑制凝胶的脱水;随着添加剂浓度的增大,凝胶的脱水速率先减小,后增大.凝胶中的碱含量越高,凝胶越难脱水.  相似文献

Barks of Taiwan acacia (Acacia confusa) and China fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata) were liquefied in the presence of phenol with sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and hydrochloric acid (HCl) as catalyst. The properties of resins prepared from liquefied bark and the feasibility of liquefied bark‐based resol resins in particle board manufacturing were investigated. The viscosity and thermosetting property of liquefied bark‐based resol resins were affected by the kind of bark species and the catalyst used. Liquefied bark‐based resol resins using China fir bark as raw material had higher viscosity than the ones using Taiwan acacia bark. In the course of thermosetting, liquefied bark‐based resol resins using Taiwan acacia bark as raw material had a higher maximum temperature of exothermic peak and onset temperature as well as a larger quantity of exothermic heat than those using China fir bark. Resol resins prepared from bark liquefied with H2SO4 as catalyst had higher viscosity, while resins with HCl as catalyst had a higher maximum temperature and height of exothermic peak and a larger quantity of exothermic heat at thermosetting. Particle board made with A‐S adhesive that was prepared from liquefied Taiwan acacia bark with H2SO4 as catalyst had the best particle board properties than those made with other adhesives. For the particle board made with A‐S adhesive, its static bending strength and internal bonding strength would be increased as the hot‐pressing time extended. The particle board made with hot‐pressing temperature of 150°C and hot‐pressing time of 10 min had the maximum normal and wet static bending strength and internal bonding strength. Its normal static bending strength was 170.8 kgf/cm2 and the particle board showed satisfactory wet static bending strength and internal bonding strength. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A liquefied wood‐based resol resin was prepared with excellent yield by a reaction of liquefied wood and formaldehyde under alkaline conditions. The effects of various reaction parameters on the extent of the yield of the resol resin, unreacted phenol content, and viscosity were investigated. Milder resol resinification conditions were required as compared to those used in conventional methods. The liquefied wood‐based resol resin was successfully applied to produce phenolic foam using appropriate combinations of foaming agents. Diisopropyl ether with a relatively higher boiling temperature was suitable for the foaming of liquefied wood‐based resol resin. Hydrochloric acid and poly(ethylene ether) of sorbitan monopalmitate were used as a catalyst and a surfactant, respectively. The obtained foams showed satisfactory densities and compressive properties, comparable to those of foams obtained from conventional resol resin. Foams with low density were obtained by the blending of liquefied wood‐based resol resin and conventional resol resin. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
