Efficient utilization of hydrogen generated during the reactions of nano-silicon/water and nano-aluminum/water in internal combustion engine has been investigated in the current work. Engine performance and emission studies of formulated and stabilized nanoemulsion fuels (water in diesel W/D), nano-aluminum in water/diesel (W/DA) and water in nano-silicon/diesel (W/DS) have been compared with those of diesel. Experimental investigations showed reduction in brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) by 21% and 37%; rise in brake thermal efficiency (BTE) by 16% and 14% when engine was fueled with W/DA and W/DS respectively. For nanoemulsion fuels an increase in induced power was also recorded. Brake mean effective pressure, BTE and NOx emission dropped for W/D due to reduced exhaust gas temperatures. Nevertheless due to elevated peak cylinder pressures and exhaust gas temperatures a marginal rise in NOx, CO, HC and radiative heat emissions was observed with W/DA and W/DS.  相似文献

There is growing demand for functional food products enriched with long chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCω3PUFA). Nanoemulsions, systems with extremely small droplet sizes have been shown to increase LCω3PUFA bioavailability. However, nanoemulsion creation and processing methods may impact on the oxidative stability of these systems. The present systematic review collates information from studies that evaluated the oxidative stability of LCω3PUFA nanoemulsions suitable for use in functional foods. The systematic search identified seventeen articles published during the last 10 years. Researchers used a range of surfactants and antioxidants to create systems which were evaluated from 7 to 100 days of storage.

Nanoemulsions were created using synthetic and natural emulsifiers, with natural sources offering equivalent or increased oxidative stability compared to synthetic sources, which is useful as consumers are demanding natural, cleaner label food products. Equivalent vegetarian sources of LCω3PUFA found in fish oils such as algal oils are promising as they provide direct sources without the need for conversion in the human metabolic pathway. Quillaja saponin is a promising natural emulsifier that can produce nanoemulsion systems with equivalent/increased oxidative stability in comparison to other emulsifiers. Further studies to evaluate the oxidative stability of quillaja saponin nanoemulsions combined with algal sources of LCω3PUFA are warranted.  相似文献

The effect of the ultrasonication and microfluidization processing conditions on the antimicrobial activity of lemongrass oil–alginate nanoemulsions was studied. Sonication led to less effective nanoemulsions against Escherichia coli, being the loss of antimicrobial potential dependent on the amplitude and treatment time applied. Namely, nanoemulsions sonicated at 100 μm for 180 s almost completely lost their bactericidal action, leading to 0.3 log-reductions of E. coli population after 30 min of contact time. On the contrary, nanoemulsions processed by microfluidization exhibited an enhanced antimicrobial activity, which was proportional to the number of cycles through the microfluidization chamber. In fact, whereas the coarse emulsion reduced the E. coli population up to 0.66, 2.25 and 5.85 log-units after 5, 15 and 30 min of contact time, the microfluidized nanoemulsions (10 cycles, 150 MPa) achieved 1.37, 5.29 and 7.07 log-reductions. Therefore, nanoemulsions with an improved functionally could be obtained by microfluidization, whereas ultrasounds seem to have a deleterious impact on the antimicrobial activity of lemongrass essential oil.  相似文献

Polymethoxyflavones (PMFs) extracted from citrus peel exhibit potent anti-cancer activity, but are highly hydrophobic molecules with poor solubility in both water and oil at ambient and body temperature, which limits their bioavailability. The possibility of encapsulating PMFs within nanoemulsion-based delivery systems to facilitate their application in nutraceutical and pharmaceutical products was investigated. The influence of oil type (corn oil, MCT, orange oil), emulsifier type (β-lactoglobulin, lyso-lecithin, Tween, and DTAB), and neutral cosolvents (glycerol and ethanol) on the formation and stability of PMF-loaded nanoemulsions was examined. Nanoemulsions (r < 100 nm) could be formed using high pressure homogenization for all emulsifier types, except DTAB. Lipid droplet charge could be altered from highly cationic (DTAB), to near neutral (Tween), to highly anionic (β-lactoglobulin, lyso-lecithin) by varying emulsifier type. PMF crystals formed in all nanoemulsions after preparation, which had a tendency to sediment during storage. The size, morphology, and aggregation of PMF crystals depended on preparation method, emulsifier type, oil type, and cosolvent addition. These results have important implications for the development of delivery systems for bioactive components that have poor oil and water solubility at application temperatures.  相似文献

In this work, water-in-diesel fuel nanoemulsions were prepared with mixed nonionic surfactants. Several mixtures of sorbitan monooleate and polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan monooleate, with different Hydrophilic–Lipophilic Balance (HLB) values (9.6, 9.8, 10, 10.2 and 10.4) were prepared to achieve the optimal HLB value. Three mixed surfactant concentrations were prepared at 6, 8 and 10 wt% to identify the optimum concentration. Five emulsions with different water contents: 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 % (wt/wt) were prepared using a high energy method under the optimum conditions (HLB = 10 and mixed surfactant concentration = 10 %). The effect of the HLB value, mixed surfactant concentration and water content on the droplet size has been studied. The interfacial tension and thermodynamic properties of the individual and the blended emulsifiers were investigated. Droplet size of the prepared nanoemulsions was determined by dynamic light scattering and the nanoemulsion stability was assessed by measuring the variation of the droplet size as a function of time. From the results obtained, it was found that the mean droplet size was formed between 49.5 and 190 nm depending on the HLB value, surfactant concentration and water content of the blended emulsifiers.  相似文献

Nanoemulsions are finding increasing utilization in the food and beverage industries for certain applications because of their unique physicochemical and functional properties: high encapsulation efficiency; low turbidity; high bioavailability; high physical stability. In this study, we examined the impact of system composition and homogenization conditions on the formation of nanoemulsions using a high-pressure homogenizer (microfluidizer). The mean particle diameter decreased with increasing homogenization pressure and number of passes, with a linear log–log relationship between mean particle diameter and homogenization pressure. The minimum droplet diameter that could be produced after 6 passes at 14 kbar depended strongly on emulsifier type and concentration: SDS < Tween 20 < β-lactoglobulin < sodium caseinate. Small-molecule surfactants formed smaller droplets than proteins, which was attributed to their ability to rapidly adsorb to the droplet surfaces during homogenization. The impact of phase viscosity was examined by using different octadecane-to-corn oil ratios in the oil phase and different glycerol-to-water ratios in the aqueous phase. The minimum droplet size achievable decreased as the ratio of disperse phase to continuous phase viscosities (ηD/ηC) decreased for SDS-stabilized emulsions, but was relatively independent of ηD/ηC for β-lactoglobulin-stabilized emulsions. At low viscosity ratios, much smaller mean droplet diameters could be achieved for SDS (d ∼ 60 nm) than for β-lactoglobulin (d ∼ 150 nm). The information reported in this study will facilitate the rational design of food-grade nanoemulsions using high-pressure homogenization methods.  相似文献

Impacts of β-glucan–virgin coconut oil (VCO) nanoemulsion containing epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and α-tocopherol at levels of 0–3.0 g kg−1 on properties and storage stability of surimi gel were investigated. Augmented breaking force, deformation and fracture constant were obtained in gels containing 2.0 g kg−1 EGCG or 1.0 g kg−1 α-tocopherol (P < 0.05). Expressible moisture content increased as EGCG levels were more than 2.0 g kg−1. Smoother microstructure was observed in gels containing 2.0 g kg−1 EGCG. Whiter gels were obtained when β-glucan–VCO nanoemulsion was incorporated. No change in protein pattern of gels was observed regardless of antioxidant incorporation. Viscoelastic moduli decreased as β-glucan–VCO nanoemulsion was added; however, incorporation of 2.0 g kg−1 EGCG or 1.0 g kg−1 α-tocopherol lowered the decrease in G'. β-glucan–VCO nanoemulsion containing gels had higher likeness scores than the control (P < 0.05). Gels containing EGCG and α-tocopherol at selected levels had the improved oxidative stability and lowered microbial loads.  相似文献

致密砂岩气储层钻井过程中,钻井液入侵将造成严重的储层伤害难题。通过岩心分析技术、岩心流动实验等系统分析了临兴区块致密砂岩气储层主要损害机理,统计并分析了现场钻井液存在的技术难题,并优化出具有良好性能的致密砂岩气储层保护钻井液。研究结果表明,临兴区块致密砂岩气储层岩石具有中-粗砂状结构,胶结致密,孔喉细小,含敏感性黏土矿物,储层潜在严重的水锁伤害与中等偏强的水敏性及应力敏感性损害(临界压力为7.0 MPa),潜在中等偏弱的速敏性(临界流速为0.75 mL/min)、盐敏性(临界矿化度为7500 mg/L)、碱敏性(临界pH值为10.0)及土酸敏感性损害;临兴区块主要存在储层损害、钻井液漏失、井眼垮塌、摩阻扭矩大与井眼清洁等钻井液技术难题。优化出的钻井液封堵性能良好,滤液表面张力低(23.3 mN·m-1),能减少固相侵入,削弱水锁效应,提高岩石渗透率恢复值至91.3%,具有良好的储层保护性能。现场应用结果表明,该储层保护钻井液完全满足复杂井段或水平井段钻进的钻井液技术要求。   相似文献

Objective: The aim of this study was to develop a coenzyme Q10 nanoemulsion cream, characterize and to determine the influence of omega fatty acids on the delivery of coenzyme Q10 across model skin membrane via ex vivo and in silico techniques.

Methods: Coenzyme Q10 nanoemulsion creams were prepared using natural edible oils such as linseed, evening primrose, and olive oil. Their mechanical features and ability to deliver CoQ10 across rat skin were characterized. Computational docking analysis was performed for in silico evaluation of CoQ10 and omega fatty acid interactions.

Results: Linseed, evening primrose, and olive oils each produced nano-sized emulsion creams (343.93–409.86?nm) and exhibited excellent rheological features. The computerized docking studies showed favorable interactions between CoQ10 and omega fatty acids that could improve skin permeation. The three edible-oil nanoemulsion creams displayed higher ex vivo skin permeation and drug flux compared to the liquid-paraffin control cream. The linseed oil formulation displayed the highest skin permeation (3.97?±?0.91?mg/cm2) and drug flux (0.19?±?0.05?mg/cm2/h).

Conclusion: CoQ10 loaded-linseed oil nanoemulsion cream displayed the highest skin permeation. The highest permeation showed by linseed oil nanoemulsion cream may be due to the presence of omega-3, -6, and -9 fatty acids which might serve as permeation enhancers. This indicated that the edible oil nanoemulsion creams have potential as drug vehicles that enhance CoQ10 delivery across skin.  相似文献

The resistance of insect populations to the existing insecticides grows fast due to their continuous use. Thus, the need for new and effective formulations is increasing. Isolated compounds of botanical origin may represent a promising solution for green pest management strategies. In this study, isofuranodiene derived from Smyrnium olusatrum L. (Apiales: Apiaceae) essential oil (EO), was nanoemulsified (3% w/w) to treat wheat kernels with two concentrations (500 and 1000 ppm) against adults and larvae of three tenebrionid beetles attacking stored products, the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), the confused flour beetle Tribolium confusum Jacquelin du Val, and the yellow mealworm beetle, Tenebrio molitor L. Mortality rates were calculated after 4, 8 and 16 h and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 days. The isofuranodiene-based nanoemulsion (NE) exhibited high adulticidal effects against T. molitor, and larvicidal activity against T. castaneum and T. confusum, reaching 98.6, 97.4 and 93.5% at 1000 ppm after 7 days of exposure, respectively. On the other hand, the NE caused low mortality rates on adults of T. castaneum and T. confusum, as well as on larvae of T. molitor, not exceeding 26.2, 10.0 and 15.6% at 1000 ppm, 7 days post-exposure, respectively. Overall, the 3% (w/w) isofuranodiene-based NE developed here has a significant potential to protect stored wheat from tenebrionid beetle infestations.  相似文献
