In 1991, recipients were as follows: for "Distinguished Professional Contributions to Knowledge," Joseph Matarazzo and Grant Dahlstrom; for "Distinguished Professional Contributions to Applied Psychology as a Professional Practice," Stanley Graham; and for "Distinguished Professional Contributions to Public Service," José Szapocznik and Oliva Espin. Group contributions to activity coefficients from the hard sphere expansion corresponding states theory

A new method has been developed for predicting liquid activity coefficients in ternary mixtures from group contributions. In this method, activity coefficients are obtained from the excess Gibbs free energy of mixing at constant temperature and pressure. In calculating this excess function, the constituent and mixture Gibbs free energies are each represented by an expansion about a pure reference fluid in powers of ratios of hard-sphere diameters and molecular attraction parameters. When the pure component differs from the reference by a single structural group, these ratios represent, respectively, the size contribution and the attraction contribution of this group to the thermodynamic property of the pure fluid. Contributions of intermolecular repulsion to the excess Gibbs free energy are calculated directly from hard-sphere equations of state for the mixture and pure components. The effect of polar contributions calculated by a Padé approximant is also examined. Results indicate that the method developed from the hard-sphere expansion corresponding-states theory is useful for predicting activity coefficients in ternary mixtures when unlike-pair interaction parameters are fitted to binary activity coefficient data. Verification of Knowledge Assets in Electronic Repositories: Expert- and Community-Governance

Two mechanisms that verify knowledge contributions in electronic repositories are expert-governance and community-governance. Our goal is to examine repository users' perceptions of the conditions under which these mechanisms verify knowledge contributions. Qualitative data show that perceived credibility of experts, perceived ownership of content, and experts' (meticulous) execution of governance functions are salient for expert-governance, and the perceived involvement of community members, and community members' (continuous and collective) execution of governance functions are important for community-governance.

Inclusionary zoning and affordable housing in Sydney

Abstract

Focus in this paper is placed on the issue of inclusionary zoning and developer contributions to provide affordable housing in the City West and Green Square urban redevelopment projects. Both are ambitious inner city urban renewal projects which form key parts of the New South Wales government's urban consolidation policy and also seek to maintain a social mix through the provision of social (i.e. affordable) housing.     

Implementation of Urban Development in Sydney: Recent Experience and Future Issues

New urban development is viewed as primarily being about the production of housing and therefore closely related to housing policies. Recent innovations for implementing new urban development at the fringe of Sydney are commented on, and the possibility of increased servicing costs and consequent reduced housing affordability is raised. Given the scarcity of public funds and concern for housing output, the paper argues for moves towards a user-pays approach for pricing serviced land, but with greater assistance for housing output. Furthermore, it is suggested that the concern for avoiding scarcity and managing the supply of serviced land is secondary to the main aim of achieving housing ouput.     

Obituary: Louis D. Cohen (1912-2000).

Memorializes Louis D. Cohen, known for his work as the founding chair of the Department of Clinical Psychology of the University of Florida. This program was the first nationally accredited program in the country within a health center setting. Cohen extended the vision of clinical application well beyond the office practice model and became one of the fathers of the community psychology approach.
