The Importance of Shared Environment in Infant-Father Attachment: A Behavioral Genetic Study of the Attachment Q-Sort.

In this first behavior genetic study on infant-father attachment, we estimated genetic and environmental influences on infant-father attachment behaviors and on temperamental dependency, both assessed with the Attachment Q-Sort (AQS; B. E.Vaughn & E. Waters, 1990; E. Waters, 1995). Mothers of mono- and dizygotic twins (N = 56 pairs) sorted the AQS with a focus on the infant's behaviors in the presence of the father. Genetic modeling showed that attachment was largely explained by shared environmental (59%) and unique environmental (41%) factors. For dependency, genetic factors explained 66% of the variance, and unique environmental factors including measurement error explained 34%. Attachment to father appears to be, to a significant degree, a function of the environment that twins share. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)     

Motion-based method for estimating time required to attach self-adhesive insulators

A self-adhesive insulator is a component of a home appliance that is used to suppress vibration or prevent humidity affecting the internal parts of the appliance. There is a wide range of types and designs available, allowing them to be applied to areas having different shapes. At the design stage, once an insulator design has been developed sufficiently to identify its dimensions and features, the attaching time and baseline cost must be estimated with reasonable accuracy to enable a comparison of vendor quotes. However, the current estimation method is not sufficiently accurate in terms of the baseline cost. This paper presents a motion-based time-estimating scheme with which the time required for the attachment of such insulators can be calculated more accurately. The scheme has been developed by analyzing the motions needed to attach 350 insulators and then designating representative motions and their time values. For this purpose, a modular arrangement of predetermined time standards (MODAPTS) is adopted. Motion-based time-estimation method is useful in terms of simplicity and accuracy. It enables design engineers to estimate the time required for the attachment based only on a drawing of the insulator and a few MODAPTS rules. Estimates made with this method should vary from the actual value by no more than 9.5%.

Design and setup of a testing device to investigate a reduced sized attachment system mock up for the ITER EU HCPB-TBM under different mechanical loading conditions

In order to determine the forces acting on the EU-Helium Cooled Pebble Bed Test Blanket Module (HCPB-TBM) during operation, a measurement system is developed. Therefore, two force reconstruction (FR) methods using measured strain signals are selected that are suitable for the application to the TBM. The first one, the augmented Kalman filter is a combined deterministic-stochastic approach. A second FR method based on the concept of a model predictive controller is proposed in this paper, which uses an optimization algorithm. In order to test the selected methods a testing device has been built which can be used to apply different force excitations on a reduced sized TBM mock up and measure the resulting strain signals of 16 strain gages. A simple tube mock up has been designed and manufactured to test and calibrate the FR algorithms. In addition, a second TBM mock up with attachment system is described. Finally, first results of the FR of a worst-case test case from simulated strain data of the simple tube mock up are presented.     

What robots can teach us about intimacy: The reassuring effects of robot responsiveness to human disclosure

Perceiving another person as responsive to one’s needs is inherent to the formation of attachment bonds and is the foundation for safe-haven and secure-base processes. Two studies examined whether such processes also apply to interactions with robots. In both studies, participants had one-at-a-time sessions, in which they disclosed a personal event to a non-humanoid robot that responded either responsively or unresponsively across two modalities (gestures, text). Study 1 showed that a robot’s responsiveness increased perceptions of its appealing traits, approach behaviors towards the robot, and the willingness to use it as a companion in stressful situations. Study 2 found that in addition to producing similar reactions in a different context, interacting with a responsive robot improved self-perceptions during a subsequent stress-generating task. These findings suggest that humans not only utilize responsiveness cues to ascribe social intentions to robots, but can actually use them as a source of consolation and security.     

So why have you added me? Adolescent girls’ technology-mediated attachments and relationships

Technology plays an almost ubiquitous role in contemporary British society. Despite this, we do not have a well-theorised understanding of the ways adolescent girls use digital devices in the context of their developing secure relationships with their families and friends. This study aims to address this gap in understanding. Fifteen young women based in the Midlands and from across the socio-economic spectrum participated between 2012 and 2013. Participants completed three research tools exploring technology-mediated attachment and relationships, and participated in a face-to-face interview. The findings suggest that it is possible for girls to develop attachments with others through, and with, technology; technology use brings people together and mediates relationships in a range of ways encapsulated by attachment functions. The study highlights the ongoing importance of parental and peer relationships by suggesting that technology can act as a means by which the positive and negative attributes of existing relationships can be amplified.

一种新型SOAP消息附件安全保障模型

随着Web服务的广泛应用和发展，提供安全保障能力是Web服务在商业应用中获得成功的关键因素。然而，目前还没有一种有效的方法对SOAP消息附件提供安全性支持。针对这一问题，本文提出了一种新型的SOAP附件安全保障模型，它可以在不改变客户端和服务器端内部实现的情况下，对附件进行加密和数字签名。在多中间节点的场景中，附件可以不经过任何中间节点从客户端直接发送到服务器，在减少附件被攻击可能性的同时提高了服务的执行效率。本模型在Web应用服务器上进行了原型实现，实验结果表明，该模型具有普遍性，可以高效地为企业提供附件安全保障。     

Attachment style,social skills,and Facebook use amongst adults

Research suggests that online communication may benefit those high in social anxiety. The current study examined Facebook use from the perspective of adult attachment theory, exploring relationships between attachment anxiety and avoidance and Facebook use. Social skills have been found to be related to attachment style and internet use thus we also examined the role of these skills. A diverse sample of adult participants (N = 617; 50.1% female) completed a self report questionnaire measuring attachment dimensions, social skills, and Facebook use and experience. In line with predictions grounded in attachment theory, we found that individuals with high attachment anxiety used Facebook more frequently, were more likely to use it when feeling negative emotions and were more concerned about how others perceived them on Facebook. High attachment avoidance was related to less Facebook use, less openness and less positive attitudes towards Facebook. These relationships remained when social skills were controlled. These results suggest that Facebook may serve attachment functions and provide a basis for understanding how online communication may be related to attachment styles.
