Cell migration is a finely tuned biological process that often involves epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). EMT is typically characterized by the upregulation of mesenchymal markers such as Snail1. This process has been shown to be of critical importance to normal developmental processes, including neural crest migration and invasion. Interestingly, similar mechanisms are utilized in disease processes, such as tumor metastasis and migration. Notably, EMT and EMT-like processes confer tumor cells with the ability to migrate, invade, and adopt stem cell-like properties that largely account for immunosuppression and tumor recurrence. Therefore, identifying sensitive EMT markers may contribute to cancer prognosis and diagnosis in many facets. Previously, we showed that Elp3 plays an essential role during neural crest migration by stabilizing Snail1. In the current study, we further elucidate the molecular mechanism underlying colorectal cancer migration. We found that mElp3 exerted an identical function to xElp3 in modulating neural crest migration, and both HAT and SAM domains are imperative during this migratory process. Interestingly, overexpression of mElp3 in SW480 cells promoted cell migration and invasion, and we further showed that Elp3 stabilized Snail1 requiring integrity of both SAM and HAT domains. Our findings warrant further exploration of the specific target of Elp3 in cancer cells.  相似文献

Breast cancer is a highly aggressive cancer in females. Metastasis is a major obstacle to the efficient and successful treatment of breast cancer. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) has anti-tumor effects on a variety of tumors. We showed that CTAB inhibits the metastasis of breast cancer to the lungs both in vitro and in vivo. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is thought to be one of the major processes mediating breast cancer metastasis. We found that CTAB suppressed EMT and regulated the levels of the classical EMT markers E-cadherin, N-cadherin, vimentin, Snail and Twist1. Moreover, as a candidate anti-tumor agent, CTAB showed primary safety in vivo. Taken together, our results suggest that CTAB inhibits the migration of primary breast cancer to the lungs. Our findings confirm the clinical potential of CTAB for the treatment of breast cancer by targeting EMT. CTAB may thus be a promising novel anti-tumor drug for the treatment of breast cancer metastasis.  相似文献

This study identifies the types of areas in Seoul where foreigners are concentrated by reflecting the characteristics of their region of origin and residence in Seoul. Lack of cultural understanding and uniform policies for various immigrant communities are causing some social issues. Hence, this study aims to prepare the basic data from which the government can predict changes in ethnic areas and prepare policies suitable for each derived type. The 14 most populous immigrant communities in Seoul were investigated, and cluster analysis and ANOVA test were performed. This examination resulted in four immigrant community types. Each type has specific characteristics, which have influenced the creation and change of the built environment. Types 1 and 4 are collectivistic. These types gradually tend to change urban environments to emulate the environment in their region of origin. In addition, they make little effort to improve their degraded environments, and such areas become increasingly backward. In contrast, types 2 and 3 are individualistic and prefer to assimilate into a migrant region. The formation and change of the urban environment for each type can be predicted on the basis of these characteristics. From this information, the government can prepare an appropriate urban architecture policy for each type.  相似文献

Transport phenomena are investigated which are involved in the electrokinetic remediation process used for removing vanadium from deactivated catalysts from oil catalytic cracking that are currently allotted to cement plants and class-I landfills. Variables such as the concentration of electrolyte, electric potential, and applied electric current were evaluated in order to determine the effects produced by electroosmosis, diffusion, hydraulic gradient, and electromigration on the removal of vanadium from the catalyst. It was observed that migration is the most relevant phenomenon in the remediation tests, and for the best remediation condition, the migratory flow accounted for about 87 % of the vanadium removal.  相似文献

Using tailings as material to prepare glass-ceramic is an excellent way to achieve the resource utilization of solid waste. However, at present, researches on the solidification and migration of heavy metals are limited. Therefore, in this study, ten groups of samples were prepared by controlling sintering temperatures. The solidification, migration, and leaching behavior of non-volatile and volatile heavy metals were studied. The research showed that, with the increase of temperature, the properties of the samples were improved. Fe participated in the phase transformation and evolved into insoluble iron pyroxenes solid solution, while Pb was homogeneously distributed in the glass matrix of glass-ceramics. The leaching concentrations of Fe and Pb in the glass-ceramics were 0.055 mg/L ~0.087 mg/L and 0.074 mg/L ~0.140 mg/L, which were far below the threshold value. The results showed that heavy metals can be effectively solidified in glass-ceramics and have good environmental benefits.  相似文献

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA), a biodegradable and compostable polymer, is gaining market acceptance and has been extensively investigated. The versatility of PLA has led to its broad and different applications in medical, agriculture, and food packaging fields. Similar to other polymers, PLA is permeable to gases, vapors and organic compounds. Thus, the mass transfer properties of PLA can influence its suitability for end-use applications. Here, we present a comprehensive, systematic, and critical review of more than 300 papers published since 1990 reporting the mass transfer properties of PLA, which include permeability, diffusion and solubility to gases, water vapor and organic vapors, along with migration of chemical compounds from PLA. Overall, PLA provides moderate barrier to gases, water vapor, and organic compounds. Barrier enhancement can be achieved through modifications such as blending with other polymers and formation of composite structures. Most of the mass transfer parameters reported in the literature are based on two-phase mobile amorphous and crystalline fractions, omitting the role of the restricted amorphous fraction, which can lead to unclear comprehension of PLA barrier properties as well as what affects those properties. Additional research is needed to address this shortcoming. This review provides an in-depth analysis of PLA mass transfer and a foundation for future research and commercial development.  相似文献

We monetize the cost for moving to a culturally different location. We combine administrative social security panel data with a proxy for cultural difference based on historical dialect dissimilarity between German counties. Conditional on geographic distance and pre‐migration wage profiles, we find that migrants demand a (indexed with respect to local rents) wage premium of about 1 (1.5) per cent for overcoming one standard deviation in cultural dissimilarity. The effect is driven by males and those who earn above average occupational wages before migration, and more pronounced for geographically short moves.  相似文献

This paper reports work studying the partial substitution of the commonly used plasticiser di-octyl phtalate (DOP) by the permanent plasticisers ethylene-vinyl-acetate (EVA) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) in order to reduce migration of additives initially present in poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) stabilised with epoxidised sunflower oil (ESO). Various formulations with and without the two different permanent plasticisers were prepared. Their tensile properties were compared. Migration tests with agitation at 40°C in two food simulants (olive oil and 15% aqueous ethanol) were carried out. The mass variation of the PVC samples with time was investigated. Migration phenomena were studied by using various analytical methods such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that additives migration can be considerably reduced by partial substitution of DOP with both permanent plasticisers used. The best results were obtained with the binary system of plasticisers based on DOP:ABS (30:10).  相似文献
