Abstract:Wind power,as a renewable green power,will be a key part of smart grid where distributed generation is an important characteristic.However,the present grid is not convenient to accept wind power.It is reported fractional frequency transmission technologies could solve the problem.But in the fractional frequency transmission system,there appears a longer arcing time for circuit breakers to interrupt short circuit current.The longer arcing time will decrease the interrupting capacity of circuit breakers.This paper discusses the influence of the fractional frequency transmission system on the interrupting capacity of vacuum circuit breakers.Slade pointed that the interrupting capacity of vacuum circuit breakers decline with decrease of frequency as the following functionix(f1)/ix(f2)=(f1/f2)~(1/2).With transverse magnetic field contacts,the interrupting capacity of 12 kV vacuum interrupters with contact diameter 62 mm dropped from 40 kA at 50 Hz to 25 kA at 16(2/3) Hz.
