Prospects for visible and VUV free electron lasers using dielectric resonance |

| Abstract: | Operation near spectral resonance lines of helium and of the alkali metals is capable of yielding high gain in an FEL at visible and VUV wavelengths. When the wavelength is on the order of 1 percent off resonance, absorption and saturation effects are relatively unimportant. |
