Abstract:Some problems about the optimum design for a piled raft foundation are discussed in the paper. First, design philosophy for a piled raft foundation is studied. A design philosophy is proposed based on the control of settlement. Then, pile arrangement is discussed from the economical point of view. Usually, it is more reasonable to install piles in the middle of a raft foundation. It is also a good choice to install piles under walls or columns. What is more? The bearing capacity of a raft foundation is considered in practical design. Finally, optimum methods for a piled raft foundation are analyzed, and some methods for optimum design are developed.
