Abstract:The effects of calcium chloride and sodium chloride on the coal fly ash flotation were investigated by studying the surface properties of coal fly ash. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy showed the presence of many lime particles in the coal fly ash, which, together with Ca(OH)2(s), could be adsorbed on the rough surface of unburned carbon particles. The flotation results indicated that calcium chloride reduced the performance of unburned carbon removal from the coal fly ash, whereas sodium chloride increased froth stability thereby improving the flotation performance.
