| Abstract: | The basic principle of embedded coding technology is presented. With minor modifications to the encoder and decoder, DPCM becomes an embedded code and allow reduction of the least significant bits assigned to speech transmission to accommodate data transmission within the bit stream without significant degradation of speech quality on the receiving side. Combined the embedded codibg technogy with G. 721 algorithm (32k bit /s Adaptive DPCM) produces embedded ADPCM,it allows the insertion of an auxiliary data channel of 8 or 16kbit/s,multiplexed together with the speech channel of 24kbit/s or 16kbit/s to form the complete 32kbit/s signal without causing mistracking operation in the decoder. |
