This paper discusses the hardness de nition of water-borne wood coatings; factors in uencing lm hardness, relation between the hardness and scratch and abrasion resistance and common test methods of hardness, emphasizing di erent test methods can get di erent test results. It gives the advice that demand for the hardness of water-borne wood coatings should depends on practical use of coatings, no needing to pursuit too high hardness.
