Construction management

Three small, six medium and two large UK building and/or civil engineering contractors took part in the survey which is analysed by B.A. Young, Director of short courses, Construction Management Unit at the Department of Civil Engineering, Salford, and A.R. Duff of the Building Engineering Department, UMIST. The results confirm that the production function in the building and civil engineering sectors is highly controlled, and jobs are sequential. There is an ordered movement of individuals through the hierarchy which is substantiated by the relative uniformity of skills and knowledge.
