Production method,application,market demand and development prospects of mercaptoacetic acid are introduced,and its synthesis technology is commented emphatically.Considering the difference between present domestic production technology of mercaptoacetic acid and advanced technology of foreign countries,the following suggestions are put forward.Domestic related departments shlould strengthen the research and deveploment of the product,especially seperation technology.While continously improvingproduction technology and product quality,decreasing production cost,and developing its new application fields,its production should be on large scale.A plant of producing 2000～3000 t/a high-purity mercaptoacetic acid by advanced process should be set up in one qualified enterprise in order to satisfy domestic demands.
